Awesome game ahead of its time built the building blocks for 3D gaming as we know it much respect for Miyamoto and hes still making games this guy is unrivaled.

Mario 64 is my favorite game of all time probably. Walking around and doing NOTHING in that game was more fun than 50% of other games up until then.

* The look, the new music, the small compact little enclosed worlds for you to explore that were big enough to have some freedom but small enough you couldn't get lost in.

It was perfect for the time.

We NEED Mario 64-2

joab7773596d ago

Agree. Few games blew my mind like that game. It was the most amazing thing ever at the time...and remains a moment cemented in gaming history.

FF cutsenes were big, wolfenstein and doom were huge, and for some reason last gen 2 moments stuck out. Leaving the vault in Fallout 3 & arriving in Rapture.

mario 64 is one of my favorite games ever and possibly the best game for its time ever. It blew me away when I saw it at a demo station and although I already loved videogames, seeing that made me a hardcore gamer. Started gatting mags and consoles like crazy. 1996-2001 was the golden age for me. PS1, n64, dreamcast, PC with voodoo 3, ps2. I became addicted to games the moment I saw mario on nes, and seeing mario 64 made me a gamer for life.

Mario 64 and Zelda OOT both paved the way for their respective genres entering the 3d spectrum. Before Zelda OOT, other games didnt know how to handle battles in a wider 3d space. Miyamoto came up with the targeting system and voila--a masterpiece. Mario 64's innovation is why we have games like Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, etc--and still nothing touches Mario 64. And Zelda OOT's innovations in 3d interaction are the same reasons that the action/battle portions of games like Dark Souls, Darksiders, etc are successful at capturing captivating battles.

No other designer can claim to have innovated as much as him--not even by a small fraction. He's responsible for adding to (if not creating) just about every genre except for maybe first person shooters and turn based jrpgs (does Earthbound fully count as a Miyamoto game?)

I agree with you that the guy is the "most talented game designer in gaming" but he's not in god mode like some media has made to believe, as much of the genres he's worked on already existed but he and he's team added a lot nonetheless, the targeting 3d combat system I believe I saw it first a year earlier on Megaman Legends and its a shame that that game isn't as fondly remembered as Ocarina of Time, it really is on the same league but it didn't have the same hype. Earthbound (Mother series) is Shigesato Itoi's baby and Mario 64 has a dark past as some of it's features came from a pitch by Argonaut (starfox developer)for a Yoshi 3d game and competition and jealousy killed a great partnership. Now Mr. Miyamoto where the hell is my Mario 64 2? XD

Does Nintendo Have Miyamoto under Contract?

Activemessiah3596d ago

The man IS Nintendo, all the main IPs are his creation and he has his own division within the company.

SilentNegotiator3596d ago

"Miyamoto, if you keep making that face, it'll stick that way!"
So Miyamoto smiled for eternity.
The end.

Geobros3597d ago

WheatBread3596d ago

SM64, OOT, and tetris are my top 3 favorite games.

If they ever did I hope they would add onto it, there's so much you could do with Princess Peach's castle alone

roadkillers75d ago

Or just make the Mario 128... the cancelled sequel that sounded amazing (or was it just an amazing tale).

fr0sty74d ago

Funny that after all these years, we still use 64 bit CPUs, so it wouldn't make sense to call it that.

fr0sty74d ago

Yeah, a straight remake doesn't sound good to me. Same formula, but different game.

Number1TailzFan76d ago

Each level is pretty small today in the original game, I don't like huge levels but I think they could be at least 2x bigger, or close to it and more of them, with more things to do.

They could do a mix of having open levels and more linear ones like in 3D World or Land, I doubt they will do that but it would make a change.

Neonridr75d ago

I mean Odyssey's levels weren't massive, but requiring you to do different things in each world is what made the levels feel bigger than they were.

ZeekQuattro75d ago

I'd prefer a Oydessey 2 or Galaxy 3. Besides the DS
game was a Mario 64 remake complete with more playable characters, stages, bosses and muti player content.

Cacabunga75d ago (Edited 75d ago )

I did not like Odyssey i found the idea of ot lame.. i find it boring to just look for moons instead of exploring and enjoying the levels. Let’s not talk about the extremely repetitive and ridiculously easy bosses. Level design is so meh most of the time. Galaxy 2 is a far better game so Galaxy 3 anytime!!!

TiredGamer74d ago

Agreed. I enjoyed Odyssey for a while, but it quickly became very formulaic where each level felt like a checklist of things to do with WAY too many moons to find. The Galaxy series were the best, as they took some of what made 64 great and juiced it up perfectly.

Lolly75d ago

Yes! Let's release an almost 30 year old game to kick off the next generation for Nintendo...
I'm over re-releases...FEED ME NEW MARIO!

'Super Mario Bros. Wonder' Is What Happens When Devs Have Time to Play

Because Nintendo’s upcoming Mario game had no deadline, its creators were able to experiment with new styles and move from the Mushroom Kingdom to the Flower Kingdom—with delightfully trippy results.

Gabrielmpf235d ago

Can't wait for this. My Switch is itching for more Super Mario.

dmonee235d ago (Edited 235d ago )

If this game is great, then it should be a lesson to other developers.
