​Why I'm Excited for No Man's Sky

I tend to agree with Multiconsolegamer on this one, there are many great games coming from Sony with bigger budgets and fantastic graphics, but those are pretty much expected, this one came as a total surprise and because of that for me it was one of the highlights of E3

when it was first revealed (not too long ago) it had my curiosity. After seeing how much it has improved, it has my attention.

And the beauty is, it was done by such a small team. I love it when a plan comes together.

It looks incredible yes but how will it keep the players interest while seemingly trying to explore the universe? Will there be some kind of a story? Missions? Will it just be mindless/pointless exploration and shooting stuff?

Too many questions...It has to keep you interested in one way or another or this game as alluring and fresh as it might look will flop badly and I for one would hate to see that, we need games like this, you know new ideas unbound by corporate profit margins.

I was happy to see a dedicated indie developer to get an opportunity to show their game and steal the show. You can even see how emotional he got on stage. So happy for him and his team.

Indie developers would sell their kidney to make video games. Props to Sony for giving indie developers the chance to show off their hard work on the big stage.

I think the parity is either gone or it has been modified to allow the hits to also come to XB1.

-Warframe is coming to Xbox one
-And 1001 Spikes was released on PS4 first, and it is coming to XB1.
-Also Oddworld New 'n Tasty will be on Xbox One later this year

The "debuting on console on PS4" quote pretty much gave it away.

Those games all had deals in place before id@xbox was announced...which is allowed in the parity clause.

That said we will know if ms has really changed if they dont allow this game on xbox one and do away with the parity clause.

I dread to wonder how many of your comments we'd see in No Man's Sky articles of you downplaying and criticising the game you were yet to play. Probably an overwhelming amount. There's no way you were going to care about this game, unless is was on Xbone.

Still, this is a "Sony-signed" game so don't get your hopes up too soon. It may end up biting you in the ass.

Hello Games have actually said they are "super interested" in releasing it on PC. Gotta say it seems like a game which would benefit greatly from mod support.

And none of us truly know the terms of that was other than "console exclusive", so it most likely will be on PC at some point. All I can imagine now though, is the team experimenting with Oculus and Morpheus. This could change everything: http://vrfocus.com/archives...

I mean what is the incentive to play them? They have no real story or anything and will probably not have any good characters.

Nobody else think just flying around in space will get old?

Well any game will "get old" eventually. Space games appeal to me cause I'd love to travel around in space discovering and exploring other planets and this is the only way I'll be able too. Unless of course scientists make some breakthrough and space exploration becomes affordable to the average person lol.

People used to treat the Elite games like people treat some MMOs now - just single player.. You make your own stories. If Elite Dangerous is like the old games there'll be plenty to do..

As for Star Citizen, They're promising a single player campaign. It wouldn't be a decent Wing Commander successor if it didn't have that.. WC had a very strong (if cliched) story, and some fun characters.

No Man's Sky looks more Minecraft/explorish.. Again it'll be emergent gameplay, but sometimes that's really exciting.

Does anyone really know what the gameplay is about? Wikipedia says "Players are initially given a totally uncharted universe to explore, where information about any planet's characteristics and lifeforms may be shared and updated with others."

So do you think a monster hunter / slayer type gameplay system maybe? Or would it be completely non-violent exploration on the planets? I guess I'm still on the fence for the game without knowing what I'll be doing inside it.

The space combat portion was a bit underwhelming but the planets sure get my creativity going.

Apparently everyone's working towards getting to the centre of the universe.. And you need better and better craft to be able to do that, so need to accumulate different resources, etc.

I have no idea how this'll work in practice but it looks fun. :D

This game is about the journey, not the destination. I don't care if it has a goal or not, make your own. I can't believe modern gamers need hand holding to the point of telling them how to have fun in a game that is oozing with things to discover.

Sean Murray said it's the opposite of an MMO.

It's a multiplayer experience where you very rarely bump into other players, because it's a MASSIVE, INFINITE, EMERGENT universe. Think of the probability of bumping into other life forms in our universe, and that is representative of how this game probably will end up being.

You visit a planet, and you can see the name of the person who discovered it first. You go underwater and see a coral reef, and see the name of a species of plant or fish and the name of who discovered it first.

This game is pure unadulterated discovery. the joy of discovery in a sci-fi universe.
