Eiji Aonuma Addresses Hyrule Warriors’ Place In The Zelda Timeline

Game Informer: I have a personal obsession with the Zelda timeline, and when I brought the topic up with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma during a recent interview, he didn’t need a translator to know what I was asking about. As soon as he heard the word timeline, he began chuckling.

Cool, after seeing the moon in one of the demos I figured that this was set in Termina and therefore part of the Majora's timeline (or something like that).

I wish he had never created this stupid timeline.

It just killed a piece of the Zelda series for me as a whole when all of the games were Mcguivered into a continuous timeline like that. I was happy with the majority of games being their own universe completely 100% independent of the other. It gave me a lot to look forward too.

But now, with establishment of the Timeline and Skyward Swords ending shoehorned in as canon for the series, its pretty much been reduced to a loop of repeating events with forced connectivity. Now I always know what to expect as Skyward Sword mandated the reincarnating to fight Ganon as a never ending absolute occurrence.

if you don't see the links between each games in teh timeline , just ignore it

Some people Were loving this universe so much they were seeking each info possible... and the timeline was given after numerous years.it doesn't make the games any less good

Why?

WE LIVE in a timeline ?

Look how we live now, compared to 10,000 years ago or 2,000 years ago.

Think of it like that.

Summons753605d ago

Darn, I was really hoping it was canon somewhere between Skyward Sword and OOT. I suppose this was expected once put oddly put in the most unlikeable character Minda. So anyone expecting a playable Tingle?

I dont like dynasty warriors,Zelda games i played them all but im passing on this because this is just a dynasty warriors game with Zelda characters nothing more nothing less saying that this bellong in the Zelda timeline is just BS for making people buy this game.My view!

BattleN3605d ago

When the game hits $20 I'm sure you'll buy itt!

Saying its part of the timeline, heck, creating the timeline altogether, was done for rabbid fanboys who kept begging for it and insisting on it.

Zelda is going to end of being destroyed by fans begging for needless things. They complained about linearity( though I've never viewed Zelda a linear game) and we got a Link between worlds which was the most childishly simplistic Zelda game I have ever played.

The entire game was scaled down. Puzzles were simplified to the point that I didn't even see a reason for them. Most of the items were just handed to you. Sidesquests were next to nonexistent. All of this was the result of trying to appease the complaining rabbid fan mass who wanted a less linear game. What we got was a game with no depth, because the structure Zelda had is what allowed it to be so creative.

I don't even want to go into Skyward. It was mostly the same minus giving you all of the items with no work. Everything was simplified because you can't have the type of puzzles the older Zelda games had without structured progression.

The only games that belonged in any timeline in Zelda were the ones specifically made within the same Universe. Zelda 1, Zelda 2 and Links Awakening should be in their own universe. Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass should be in their own universe. Link to the past, Four Swords Adventure 1 and 2, and the Minish Cap(not sure about that one) should be in their own universes. The Oracle games should in their own universe.

Now they've all been forced into one big ridiculous timeline that makes no sense. Thanks fanatics :|

Nioh games definitely up there at the top alongside Ninja Gaiden BLK.

LoveSpuds466d ago

There is a decent fan base for the Nioh games, but still think they are criminally overlooked and under appreciated.

I just bought the PS5 collection to replay them again with all their DLC, a sweet collection for my games shelf for sure.

Yea, those gardens haven't been plowed in over 10 years now though. Imagine if they cultivated it, let it grow again.

Starman69466d ago

Amazing what ya can do with a samurai sword lol 🤣

tehpees3466d ago

The honourable mention though.

TheSenorCheese466d ago

originally it wasn't going to be included because of their take on Samus' character. But the gameplay's actually not bad.

Vits465d ago

Honestly, I don't know if we can even blame them for that take. Nintendo's Sakamoto was credited as the writer and from what we learned later with the Retro Studios interviews for the Prime series, Nintendo apparently never saw Samus as this stoic badass that most of the west imagined her as. Going as far as describing her as "motherly".

Ninja Gaiden was dope but I don't really care for alot of their games.

The cool thing about the PS2 chainsaw display was that there was a (kind-of) hidden compartment at the back which was the exact size to hold the PS2 steelbook.

darthv721153d ago

I have that controller but sadly I lost the main cord. And its not something that was anything close to being standard or easy to find.

PrimeVinister1152d ago

One of my friends had it back in the day and I had wondered alout why it had a detachable cord that you could lose.

My friend then said it was so they could manufacture the one unit and then fire its appropriate cord in the appropriate box.

But then we realised each version has a different socket on the unit itself - so there was zero point in it except for collectors to lose the cable.

You know the designers are on r/, gamecollecting, laughing away.

jamesclark19911152d ago

I kept my cord in the "hidden" little brown drawer on the base of the unit.
