From the review, "Don’t get too attached to your Vertical Drop Heroes HD character – he’s going to die. And the one after him will die too, and maybe the guy after him as well. The fact is the “true hero” of this adventure is the one climbing over those that have fallen before him to claim victory. Everyone before the “chosen one” of this story has been monster fodder to build your new hero’s stats and make him the one of the prophecy. Kinda morbid, right? Originally a web-based flash game dubbed “Vertical Drop Heroes”, the creator decided to upgrade everything, even commissioning a new soundtrack, and put a reasonable $5 price tag on it."
Simple fun. That was what Matt was thinking during his first half hour of Vertical Drop Heroes HD. The art was so-so and he didn’t like a lot of the color choices but it was simple fun, nonetheless. In fact, it was even challenging. Playing in co-op with Kat, they hadn’t once made it past the boss at the end of Level One in their first half an hour, despite it only taking three or four minutes to reach the bottom.

I had the wonderful privilege of reviewing Vertical Drop Heroes HD a few months ago, back when it was still being green lit for Steam. Now that Vertical Drop Heroes HD has been voted through and an official Steam release is upon us, the developer has added some additional features to the game’s already huge arsenal. I won’t go into too much detail, since, for the most part, this is the same game (you can read my detailed review of the original release here). However, there are some newly added features that are worthy of note, for better or worse.
Vertical Drop Heroes HD is an action platformer where you play a character with unique skills who must, for reasons unknown, descend down 10 levels defeating enemies who get in your way, including a boss before progressing. "Only 10 levels?" you say? Well Nerdook Productions draws on aspects of an genre as old as PC gaming itself to make those 10 levels feel a lot longer.
