Microsoft Research Demonstrates a 3D Mapping System that Could be Implemented on a Windows Phone
Most of us have seen some form of 3D scanning & rendering, whether in a professional production context or at home with our Kinect sensor connected to an Xbox. In the Xbox implementation, a sensor unit actively scans the environment and uses a considerable amount of computing power to render a real time 3D image of the world in front of it to enable gesture control and to translate people’s movements into game input. Its a great system and is being used in many implementations beyond gaming.
