25 Xbox One tips and tricks for getting the most out of your console

TechRadar: Can you believe the Xbox One has been around for six months already? It's changed massively in that short space of time too; from Microsoft releasing monthly patches and updates to just last week ditching the requirement that Kinect is bundled in with every console.

It's hard to keep up with every little thing that the system can do when you're concentrating on the important stuff like, oh, playing games, so we've gone ahead and done a little research.

Download the Smart Glass Beta for your phone and enjoy direct control of XBOX ONE chat, TV volume, cable box controls, and additional content.

Use the Play To function in Media Player 12 to stream movies to Xbox Video App.

Here are some tips I have

1. Snap Hulu/TV During commercials and browse the internet or play a quick game of Super Time Force, Peggle etc that have short load times. When you switch back to Hulu or TV after the commercial is over, your game will be paused waiting for you on the next commercial.

2. Use web.tweetdeck.com as your twitter client in Internet Explorer for Xbox One and set the Column size to large and font to large. It fits the snapped size perfectly. That way you can keep up with twitter while in the lobby for Titanfall etc. If you want it to stream, make sure to click on the home button in tweetdeck before switching to your main content.

3. Pin your favorite Netflix shows to the start screen. It will go right to that series when you click on it and start where you left off.

4. Use Bing to find movies and tv shows by actor. Can't remember the name of a movie but know the actor.. just say Bing Nic Cage or Nicolas Cage and viola, all his content is there and you can choose which service you want to see it on. Similar for games, want to go directly to game demos in the store, say Xbox Bing Game Demos.

Lol, at the disagree... there is no saving this community.

Back on topic. I had no Idea you could pin shows to the start screen, as mentioned in your number 3. Thanks for the tips.

I wish they’d do a proper switch 2 update for Tony Hawk 1+2 me and my 7 year old daughter love playing it in split screen and it plays great but it looks absolutely terrible. I would say it looks like the resolution drops down to about 540p in order to keep the framerate up.

LucasRuinedChildhood2h ago

If they don't, Pro Skater 1+2 is pretty cheap these days on PS5 and Series X if you have on of them. Switch version was only 30fps as well.

Pro Skater 3+4 will definitely be a huge upgrade from that on Switch 2.

That controller looks like a cheap knockoff... it should have been a proper DS5 design.

...the VR aspect in 7 IS the redeeming quality.

Abriael1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

what a dumb take.

Ace Combat 7 is one of the best games of the past generation. It doesn't need VR gimmicks to "redeem" it.

TheColbertinator20h ago

I have enjoyed nearly every single Ace Combat to death (except that helicopter shooting one) and have never needed VR once to enjoy it greatly

PapaBop11h ago

^^^ I'm guessing you've never actually tried it in VR then? VR elevates games like this way beyond just a gimmick, just ask any GT fan who owns a PSVR 2. You may not need VR to have a good time but it's an absolute game changer and something that shouldn't be dismissed as a gimmick.

S2Killinit11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

@Abriael
Spoken like someone who never played it. But who are we kidding. We know why VR hate. No one is fooled here.

Abriael10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

@PapaBop: I tried it in VR before any of you ever did, since the game wasn't even out yet. It's a gimmick, disjointed from the AC7's main gameplay and far removed from its best parts.

It's nothing more than a limiting factor, as Ace Combat's most complex missions require hardware power to be focused on other things. That's why the VR missions are very basic.

If you think Ace Combat's strengths are even close to the platform it's on, VR or non-VR, you obviously aren't an Ace Combat fan.

In any case, I suggest you folks prepare yourself for disappointment. There's a reason why the VR gimmick was never expanded, and it's that, besides a few fanatics who care for evangelizing their VR fad more than they care for the franchise, no one gave a flying F.

The developers are going to use the resources to make the whole game better for everyone instead.

VR was the best thing that happened to Ace Combat. You kidding?

yeastori9h ago

VR is perfect for this type of game wdym

Abriael8h ago

It's a perfect way to limit this type of game.

Look, I’m a simple man. I see Ace Combat and say, “Yes!”

Abnor_Mal1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

Can we get a new Ace Combat, with full vr and not just three or four levels, for PS5 and PSVR2
Also if we could get a remake of my all time favorite, Ace Combat5: The Unsung War, again with full vr for every mission with DualSense and flight stick haptics.

yeastori9h ago

I just want them to remaster AC4 and AC5, a new AC with better more realistic looking world and planes would be great too
