Throwing Digital Sheep looks at the main problems plaguing the less than amazing Spider-Man games.
Let's celebrate Stan Lee the best way gamers know how, by looking at his most memorable virtual appearances. Excelsior!
OnlySP spoke to Beenox co-studio head and creative director Thomas Wilson about the company’s work on Spider-Man games. Between 2001 and 2007, Beenox did not develop a single original game. Instead, the studio worked as a porting house. Beenox’s experience with movie tie-ins led to the studio’s original work on The Bee Movie in 2007 and Monsters vs. Aliens in 2009, and its experience porting Spider-Man games resulted in the studio being handed the reigns to develop original Spider-Man titles in 2010.
Nice read. Wilson's candor is refreshing. He flat out says Activision did not give Beenox the budget, resources, or the time they needed. Really is too bad Activision squandered their opportunities with the Spider-man franchise. They could have made some really great games. Activision being Activision.
Always felt bad for this team. They did a lot of things right, but Activision screwed them over at every turn.
TechRaptor's Dan Hodges writes, "With Insomniac's highly promising Spider-Man right around the corner, let's revisit some of the web-slinger's worst video game outings."
Don’t forget about Spider Man 2 The PC Version which is worse than the console version. Web of Shadow PS2 version is also the worse than PS3/X360.
Best Spider Man game to date has to be Spider Man 2.
Worst Spider Man game to date I will have to go with The Amazing Spider Man 2.
The absolute WORST Spider Man game is, by far, the PSVR installment. I'd have more fun playing with dog shit than that game.
They need to bring the combat system from Web Of Shadows, back.
More variety on what's going on in the city and a higher level of interaction.
And they could have at least made an effort on bringing Spider Man to the "next gen".
In 2004 I were a PC Only Gamer and the PC Version of Spider-Man: The Video Game 2... were in fact a completely different game to the console versions.
In other words they changed it into a Kids game...the only thing the PC Version shared with the console versions...was the cover art.
They need to see MvC3 in order to have a good combat system for spiderman. Edge of time combat system is quite good, but stil those are not Spiderman movements. There should be a light and heavy strike button, jump, dodge/spider sense. Other for using web in combat. If spiderman had the movements he has in MvsC3 and also the super movements in would be awesome. Also the enemies in order to be a challenge need to be "no common thugs", because it has no sense that a common thug takes like 5-6 hits to get KO. Spiderman is a lot more powerful than a common man (batman), so thugs are not a challenge for him.
There needs to be an air parkour system "web swinging" in order to keep moving to where you want to go, (like in AC) so that you dont crash into buildings frecuently.
Side missions need to be like in Arkham games, with its own story and boss, instead of random, pointless, repetitive events. The only thing they need to learn from Arkham games is how the story and sidemissions are handled; and nothing more. Spiderman and Batman are very different kinds of heroes.
The camera needs to be away from the character, in order to see the whole scene.
because most spiderman video games are based on the movies
I really enjoyed the first one on ps2 but then again I was about 10 at the time
Stop having Beenox do it. The Amazing Spiderman 2 made it blatantly obvious that Beenox is simply sick and tired of this license. Understandably so since Activision is constantly trying to cash-in on the license rather than pushing for a game that rivals Rocksteady's Arkham games. Not to mention the fact that Spiderman is all Beenox has worked on for over a decade.
