Prince of Persia based on Assassin's Creed game engine

Prince of Persia producer Ben Mattes has revealed that the upcoming Prince of Persia for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC is being developed using an adapted version of the engine developed internally at Ubisoft for Assassin's Creed.

"We have improved and adapted the engine developed internally for Assassin's Creed. It is a great tool for our artists and engineers and we want to push it even further," explained Mattes. "We have added a lot of new systems that will help create the seamless fluidity and the overall look & feel we are looking for."

Mattes continued: "Since it is the first next gen game in the PoP saga, we have developed a lot of new systems and technologies. We have in a way started from scratch using the Assassin's Creed engine as a basis for our developments."

One area in which the increase in visual quality will be seen is in the Prince himself.

"The new Prince will displays 13 times more polygons than the previous Prince, and even more than Altair in Assassin's Creed," said Mattes. "To give you a reference, there will be more polygons in the next-gen Prince's hair than in the "old" Prince himself. Every detail of the faces, clothes and accessories of the characters will feel next-gen thanks to hi-res textures, specific lighting systems and shaders. We have developed new systems such as skin morph, wrinkle map, indirect lighting and occlusion to beautify our universe and characters in a way which was not possible on old gen."

I want to see if anything from Assassin' Creed will influence the new Prince of Persia though. Prince of Persia was always the superior game afterall.

Hopefully the glitches and sometimes retarded AI won't follow the game engine to Prince of Persia

...is also using the Assassin's Creed engine. Its good that they use this engine for a lot of games because they will make the engine better and better. Assassin's Creed 2 will be amazing as long as there is a lot of unique missions throughout the game. The first had four missions or so over and over. The assassinations felt repetitive also. I love how GTA IV did their missions. They all felt different and story related.

lalilulelo6236d ago

could be like an assassins creen 2 in a way...

LenHart6236d ago

is looking great indeed .

Far Cry 2 and POP are looking very impressive no doubt

J@D6236d ago

This is old u know I mean that PoP used the Assassin's Creed engine. But, thanks for the link ^__^

pwnsause6236d ago

and they didnt have to go to Epic and get licensing to use the unreal Engine. see, thats what all companies should be doing, build their own engine, then keep making it better with every game they make with it, just like insomniac. People disagreed with me yesterday when I facepalmed at sega licensing the Unreal Engine, with they money that they paid epic, they could of went all out and build a new engine.

@ATLRoAcH no doubt AC2 will be aamzing. the fact they are taking their engine and revising it with every game they use for it, like insomniac, they are going to get results that are going to shock them and us.

lalilulelo6236d ago

is a horrible engine anyways

LenHart6236d ago

than any game using UE3

Ubi can build their own engine. They dont need to go elsewhere

The sales really started strong, but today and yesterday's sales were a bit lackluster, to me.

Hopefully they will go all out tomorrow, if only not to be overshadowed by D2D's crazy Monday sale or whatever they are calling it.

evrfighter5686d ago

cyber monday.

I've never seen any cyber monday deals that were as crazy as black friday deals thought.

led10905686d ago

i doubt Valve ever releases their steam sales numbers. How did you get info about the sales then?

STK0265686d ago

I was not referring to the sales themselves, but the deals. The two first days had better games in my opinion. I bought 5-6 games in the two first days, I thought about buying RE5 yesterday, but decided against it since I already own it on console aswell as Borderlands (actually own it on PC and PS3), as for today, I checked the list, closed Steam, told myself I'd come back tomorrow.

Of course, this is very subjective, since I already owned many of the games that were on sale, but it does seem like the bigger games were on sale on the first day, mainly L4D2 and DAO.

2.2 - I think he just meant in reference to the titles available. I skipped out on 2 because I thought I might have had a crack at some other ones I would be more likely to play, then the last two days didn't have much at all, that I was interested in personally.

oh, he replied while I was ;)

Can't wait to play it!

Steam deals FTW!

I lolled at the demo on 360, but mouse control would probably make it seem like nice interactive tetris levels.

*looks at unassembled PC parts from black friday* >_<

One of the best game series's to come out in the history of gaming.

A decent Prince of Persia Retrospective (before the film traumatizes us all)

UGO writes,

"To capture the fluid motions that would distinguish Prince of Persia from the glut of adventure video games released in the late '80s Jordan Mechner studied video and still pictures of his younger brother, David. Those are some modest roots for a franchise that has sold in the millions and, in 2010, see the release of a blockbuster film.

But how Mechner's Prince of Persia could inspire a reimagination that would become one of 2008's most popular holiday releases is a winding tale best told in bits. To help explain, we've compiled a chronological retrospective. Now you can learn how a kid jumping around the front yard became a thousand-polygon model leaping across hundred foot chasms."

I absolutely abhorred the new POP game. The taint of the whole series by far. such a waste of 30 dollars.
