These 8K Screenshots From Unreal Engine 4's Tech Demos Will Leave You Speechless

DSOGaming writes: "Our reader ‘K putt’ has captured some glorious 8K screenshots from the tech demos that were included in Unreal Engine 4. As we’ve already said, Unreal Engine 4 looks beautiful but when rendered at really high resolutions, the end result is extraordinary."

Are these real?? O_O They look like artwork because of how clear and detailed they are!

Not gonna lie, I thought the one of the house interior was a photo for a second.

I just love 8k screenshots!!

too bad I don't have a $18,000 8k monitor to view them on.

4k is as good as it gets for now.

avengers19784068d ago

My thoughts exactly... Who has 8k at this point in time, not very many people even have 4k

AndrewLB4068d ago

They're rendered at 8k so they can be downsampled to a 4k display. Perhaps you're not familiar with downsampling? It's the process of rendering an image much larger than your display is capable of, and to then downsample it to the screens native resolution. It eliminates aliasing without using any blurring effects or post processing, and textures stay sharp and clear.

SilentNegotiator4068d ago

Pfft, 8K ain't nothin'. Give me 12K.

GW2124068d ago

Really?

Just like a tech demo isn't ready for the consumer market yet, neither is the monitor. In a handful of years when the game engine makes it from tech demo to the real world, you'll have additional monitor options as well. Understand?

I cannot believe I just wasted time responding to you.

damn only a few more years until we can enjoy 8k movie and games on the pc

SilentNegotiator4068d ago

Maybe more than 0.00000001% of people could get to 4K first. Almost no one will bother making 8K movies this decade.

PurpHerbison4068d ago

A few more years and most people might not even have 4k.

frostypants4068d ago (Edited 4068d ago )

Have you seen 4K film footage? It'll be a long ass time before 8K is a mainstream format due to the sheer number of pixels that need to be pushed, and on top of that, few will see a reason because 4K is damn close to looking through a window. Remember, diminishing returns. It's like with framerate...after 60fps, increases begin to become indistinguishable really quickly. Same goes for resolution. There's a point at which the human eye just doesn't care.

frostypants4068d ago (Edited 4068d ago )

Yeah, and it'll run like a slideshow on any PC in existence today. I don't understand why this site posts so many of these articles. Yes...pretty screenshots, but they serve no practical purpose beyond "look at what mainstream technology won't be able to render well in real time for years".

tee_bag2424068d ago

Nothing wrong with games and engines being made for higher than the industry standard res. Much better than the other way around.
Sure not too many PC's can push 8k now.. But when they can..This engine won't look dated.

Right? Thanks for checking it out!

Fans??? This is done by one person

WoodsRatesGames1499d ago

Someone else was commissioned to do the music and another person modelled the batmobile. Links to all involved are included in the article.

Gaming4Life19811499d ago

They should have been made a batman game for the best batman movie. This looks amazing and now I must watch the movie.

Am I crazy or is there an Unreal Engine 5 now? Why promote old tech?

waverider1519d ago

I really dont understand either? isnt the Unreal Engine 5 already available for studios? arent they already working with it?

masterfox1519d ago

UE5 Is for PS5 only, deal with it! :D

***runs away from this thread with pride!**

Tacoboto1519d ago

UE5 is not released yet and developers for years will still make UE4 games because that's where their tools and customizations are.

Mortal Kombat still uses UE3. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is also still UE3.

Magog1519d ago

That more of an embarrassing indictment of those devs than a reason to promote old software.

Tacoboto1519d ago

Embarrassing indictment? You know nothing of software development then.

Spenok1519d ago (Edited 1519d ago )

Because a ridiculous amount of the industry still uses 4, and because no, 5 is not out yet. They said it would launch later this year.

AuraAbjure1519d ago

Companies still use Unreal Engine 3.

Really impressive tech but I don’t even notice all of these benefits in real life, never mind being chased by zombies in a video game. Rather devote resources to resolution and frame rate.

Magog1519d ago

If you suddenly stopped casting reflections in a mirror I think you would notice.

Edit: i misread this.

Einhander19711518d ago

Yes after seeing the Unreal 5 ps5 reveal, I thought that's where we were heading. But saying that I have read various articles that suggest its easy for developers to still work on Unreal 4 and carry everything over to Unreal 5 when needed, we shall see.
