They're rendered at 8k so they can be downsampled to a 4k display. Perhaps you're not familiar with downsampling? It's the process of rendering an image much larger than your display is capable of, and to then downsample it to the screens native resolution. It eliminates aliasing without using any blurring effects or post processing, and textures stay sharp and clear.

Have you seen 4K film footage? It'll be a long ass time before 8K is a mainstream format due to the sheer number of pixels that need to be pushed, and on top of that, few will see a reason because 4K is damn close to looking through a window. Remember, diminishing returns. It's like with framerate...after 60fps, increases begin to become indistinguishable really quickly. Same goes for resolution. There's a point at which the human eye just doesn't care.

Nothing wrong with games and engines being made for higher than the industry standard res. Much better than the other way around.
Sure not too many PC's can push 8k now.. But when they can..This engine won't look dated.

Everything runs at 45 FPS + on max for me and I don't have a high-end PC. This engine is getting optimized in each version or update.

True, I think even the one who made those photos, could not even free roam using that res, I am sure he was only bale to take photos and the engine was running like 1 FPS for him lol.

put it in a game then I'll be interested.
so many of these engine demos don't make it into games or the games end up poorly optimised with slowdowns and choppy framerates.
also gameplay quality is important aswell.

Most of the visual tech end up in pc games 12 to 18 months after they get shown. You dont see em on consoles withing the gen because of hatdware limitation. Plenty of advanced tech like tesselation AO and fancy post process effects are years ols once it hit the consoles.

No man, not what i meant. I had a ps3 and a 360 and enjoyed both. Gears was like my fav series on 360 and uncharted on the ps3. Yes Uncharted looked better, but damn im impressed by the Unreal Engine 4.

Now I own a ps4, and Im happy with it. But if Gears looks that awesome, then Id get it, not because of the graphics alone, since I enjoyed the gameplay too.

IMO the ps4 is still the best and its got the best controller ever. I did like the 360 controller more than the ps3's, but now Im more than happy with the ps4's controller.

Anyway, real gamer or not, games are awesome, on all platforms, even on my s4 mini...

But I would like it if Uncharted 4 looks better than Gears of War on X1, or I will never hear the end of it from the X1 fans... Both consoles r good, but my hearth is with playstation.
