Journal is an indie narrative adventure experience from Richard Perrin, the creator of Kairo and The White Chamber. In it, you experience the story of a troubled young girl as told through the hand-painted pages of her diary. Journal is an interesting experience — one that is hard to describe without spoiling all of the facets that make it what it is.
DHGF: If you like games for the art style, Journal is worth a look. Sadly, Journal doesn’t have to strength of story to create a compelling adventure game. A plot that jumps around too much, unlikable characters, and poor creative decisions keep the player from creating a connection to to the main character’s plight. As such, I can’t really recommend this game to anyone but the most ardent fan of indie games.
Twinfinite writes, "A haunting story about life's struggles, Journal might as well be my own diary, or yours."
Journal is one of those “walk-around-em-up” games which are commonly branded as “art games” by lazy journalists, so one benefit of it being hard to Google is that fewer people will find this review and leave “well you just didn’t get it” comments. Rest assured; as smart as it may or may not be Journal gives you no opportunity to not get it.
