Dali Dimovski of SideQuesting writes:
"Mated with big, bold, contrasting colors and a soothing tribal-infused soundtrack, Totem becomes more of party game rather than a challenging platformer. It’s exciting, it’s funny, and it shoots out rainbows of fun. "
From the start, Totem's incredible pixel graphics and coloration that attracted a large audience at its booth. Killing enemies, collecting Mana from plants, and gaining new powers wasn't anything that other games haven't done but Totem's graphical style kept these tedious from getting stale. With the demo ending on a high-point, providing an excellent boss fight against a god.
"Xbox One had a fine 2014 with its first party exclusives, and in the coming year Microsoft’s indie initiative will be in full force. Starting off this wave of indie releases is none other than Kalimba, landing on One first before PC owners get a chance to play it sometime in January 2015. The Xbox 360 was supposed to get a version, but that seems to be up in the air now. Kalimba is a creative and devilishly challenging puzzle/platformer hybrid that will push your intuition and reflexes to the limit whilst adding value to the One’s currently starved (but not for long) digital library."
SideQuesting's Sam Dixon plays through a "sneak preview" of puzzle platformer Kalimba, formerly Project Totem, for Xbox One.
