Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Is Proof That Next-Gen Can Wait

There's a certain risk associated with dumping one console for another. The market is currently supporting two generations at once, and while most gaming enthusiasts have held on to their PlayStation 3's and Xbox 360's, the shift from old to new is a slow one. Gearbox, the company behind Borderlands, isn't interested in taking that risk. However, it's not all about the money.

IMO, not really.
It doesn't look very impressive, getting strong arkham origins vibes from it.

AliTheSnake14093d ago

Proof of Laziness . Give us a CURRENT GEN port for f**ks sake. (yeah its not called "next gen" any more)

HacSawJimThugin4092d ago (Edited 4092d ago )

Right on brother. Gearbox has become the king of outsourcing in the industry. A joke really. Borderlands has been the most successful game in their studios history. One would think that they would want to give it that AAA treatment but instead we get DLC cut from BL2 as a full retail game.

These guys could easily make current gen and last gen versions of this game but they are lazy. I mean just look at the game play vids. Nothing has changed that much from BL2. The HUD is the same, the loot pool will be the same with a few new guns here and there, the enemy AI are re skins of previous characters and will be the same as well. They want to do the least amount of work possible yet make a killing on profit. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

It not like they are starting with a blank slate. All of the critical assets are in place yet no current gen version.

Salooh4092d ago (Edited 4092d ago )

Yea , now i'm used to calling the new consoles current gen. If anyone wanna stay in last gen then no one stop them but saying that people are not ready after 8 years is just dumb.

I'm not begging . It's their lost. I may try the game in pc (pirate) and it's rare when i do that in the past few years. I'm not paying for last gen stuff anymore. I'm not missing the game nor i'm supporting these greedy developers . It's completely different situation then GT6 and dark souls 2. They have the chance to start on this gen but no they want more install base and that's what ruin the ps vita and Wii u. So they deserve it..

alexkoepp4092d ago

I'm predicting this will be the worst selling borderlands to date, and they deserve it for holding back the industry

Palitera4092d ago (Edited 4092d ago )

Agreed. It seems like nothing more than another overpriced expansion pack.

Jonny5isalive4092d ago

I agree because I dont have my ps3 or 360 anymore and will be buying a ps4 soon since it is readily available now in USA.

I think they overestimate how many people will buy it for old systems by the time it comes out. Sure it will sell alot but not as much as BL2. I think they should make next gen version now as well. It wouldnt be that hard and alot of early adopters of any system will support any decent game that comes out, so instal base donesnt matter as much as they act it does.

I would buy this pre-sequel on ps4 once it came out. I dont see why they wouldnt want to give the option to people that have both, it makes them more likely to buy the game if its on their new ps4 or XB1 for 60, as opposed to last gen crap for 60. Wouldnt expect them to think about providing their customers with the better value tho.

It like paying 50 for a new ps1 game in 2002 over a ps2 game for 50$. Doubt many did that once they had a ps2, I didnt.

ValKilmer4093d ago

I think it looks quite beautiful. Better on next-gen? Yes, but cel shading looks great on current gen.

randomass1714093d ago

It could look better, I think. But I do agree that it looks quite nice regardless.

turgore4092d ago

They should port it to current gen (ps4, xbone). At least they would get more familiar wit the architecture of those machines.

Jonny5isalive4092d ago

I thought jet grind radio on DC looked amazing for cell shading....until I saw JSR FUTURE on the first xbox.

Do you think people with XB1 or ps4 would rather pay 60 for a version on their new machines or for last gen consoles that are 9 years old. Wouldnt expect a company like gearbox to care about providing the best value to their customers.

-Foxtrot4092d ago

Not really, it's proof of how lazy a developer can be.

I mean new characters, new setting, same assests, same skins, same weapon designs

It's just a filler untill Borderland 3 comes out.

I wouldn't mind as much if like Arkham Origins it came out just when a new gen arrived but so far head when new consoles will gained more of a audience.

Pass from me, even if I do love Borderlands.

Time for a piece of social commentary/observation. Isn't it interesting how prevalent "polarization" is in contemporary culture? Next-gen "can wait"...because we have value in current-gen. Either-or. One against the other. Extend this into the squabbles of the past year: X1 or PS4, BF4 or CoD:Ghosts, MGS:GZ good or bad, et al. Why are we all so confrontational and polarized in our discussion and commentary on these sorts of issues in gaming? Why do we consistently use polarized language, language of either-or? What of alternative views, what of gradations, what of perspectives, what of enjoyment of what each has to offer, what of the value of last-gen and of current-gen?

And of course, this phenomenon isn't limited to gaming. It's apparent throughout contemporary culture, most obviously in politics.

Just a thought for the thoughtful out there.

Jonny5isalive4092d ago

I dont think its always that black and white but if you ask those kinds of questions that are yes or no answers then it will always be like that. For instance, I think this game should be on last and new gen consoles. Why not give the option to the people who have new consoles to pay the same price for a better experience? Laziness and greed is the answer. And stupidity too. Good games early in a gen tend to sell very good compared to what the instal bases suggest.

I dont have my ps4 yet but Ive sold my 360 and ps3 and moved on, they would for sure get more sales than BL2 if they released on new AND old consoles.

Aleithian4092d ago

"Why not give the option to the people who have new consoles to pay the same price for a better experience? Laziness and greed is the answer. And stupidity too."

If it's greedy not to put it on X1/PS4, then it implies that it would earn them less money if they put it on both generations. So you're suggesting that they should take a financial hit to give people more choice? Businesses can't run like that.

That said, I do agree that the questions we ask influence the sorts of discourse we'll have. That's why asking the right questions is so important.

micx4092d ago

Not...

They are just trying to milk some money out of the huge install base, nothing else.

ValKilmer4092d ago

If they wanted to do that, they'd have made a Claptrap platformer long ago.

Borderlands Players Are Getting Stuck in Loading Screens After Gearbox Pushes Updates to Games

Gearbox's latest patch for BL1, BL2, BL The Pre-Sequel have caused players to get stuck in the loading screen.

moriarty18891066d ago

So many games get screwed up due to bad patches or updates. Gearbox needs to fix this asap.

raiden_1881065d ago

Don't they test the patches before releasing them?

neutralgamer19921065d ago

No anymore when we the gamers act as free testers

MizHDTV1065d ago

Could never play 3 online because it would always freeze and restart my system
Deleted it soon after I got it
Wasn’t happy

VanHalen1064d ago

I really have had enough of patches and updates. Stop releasing unfinished and broken games already! Keep finding myself playing Dreamcast and Super Nintendo lately. No damn updates loading nonsense etc.

It is not unplayable. I played at those frames and resolution in my ps3 back in 2014.

KilluaX31851d ago

That's cool, but it's 2020 and after having played at 60fps for the past few years, this really is unplayable.

Neonridr1850d ago

I mean plenty of PS4/XB1 games were still only 30fps and they handled perfectly fine.. so not sure about that one.

KilluaX31850d ago (Edited 1850d ago )

30fps is not perfectly fine.
