Indie Devs Confirm Our Suspicions About Working With PlayStation

iGR: "GDC was a great chance to catch up with old friends, and new. While I had access to so many developers I wanted to get a better feel of what being an indie, and working closely with PlayStation, was really like."

Good to hear, but also nice attention grabbing title ;)

EBTpickle4106d ago

Based on my personal interactions with Adam Boyes, Brian Silva, and Shahid Ahmad; I've always suspected that they were pretty easy to work with.

These devs, and many others, confirmed my suspicions.

darthv724106d ago

you do know that 'suspicion' has more of a negative connotation than positive one.

A good read otherwise. The indie devs are doing good so need to be suspicious of their actions.

redwin4106d ago

This is how you get consumers to like you. Good job Sony .

FamilyGuy4106d ago

I'm down voting this site:

Misleading title with it improper use of "suspicions" just to grab attention.

Super short amount of information

Rehashed information that we've all been hearing for months.

It isn't even worthy of being considered "gaming news".

frostypants4106d ago (Edited 4106d ago )

Ditto on the intentionally misleading title. Here's the definition of suspicion:

suspicion
: a feeling that someone is possibly guilty of a crime or of doing something wrong
: a feeling that something bad is likely or true
: a feeling of doubt

You cannot be "suspicious" of something positive. The word doesn't mean that.

thorstein4106d ago

The correct word should have been "Assumption."

As in, "Indie Devs Confirm Our Assumption About Working With PlayStation."

It has a more positive denotation and connotation.

MetaReapre4105d ago (Edited 4105d ago )

@frostypants
Your 3rd deffinition can easily say that you can be suspicious of something positive

"a feeling of doubt"

Can you not have a feeling of doubt that someone is nice? Feeling of doubt that someone will be doing something positive? Yes the title can be misleading but if your only reason for reading something like this is to read something bad about Sony then sorry if your so disappointed.

frostypants4105d ago (Edited 4105d ago )

@MetaReapre, sorry, that's just not how the word is used. Would you say "I'm suspicious that Angelina Jolie is an ugly woman"? And I love how just because I don't appreciate people butchering the English language, and disapprove of click-bait, that I must want "to read something bad about Sony", especially when some people think I'm a Sony fanboy. The author wants people to think it is something bad about Sony in order to drive traffic to an article that would otherwise drive very little traffic due to the fact that it says nothing people didn't know already. Don't blame people for being irritated by that. It's this kind of thing that makes people look down on this site.

iamnsuperman4106d ago

I can see why they did it but "suspicions" is definitely the wrong word

OT: it is good companies are taking indies seriously. It is quite easy to exploit an indie develop (especially new ones)

xer04106d ago

Agreed.

You could tell this article was fishing for hits with that headline.

Sinister shenanigans.

EBTpickle4105d ago

Wow, it was used jokingly. Like when a friend says, "I thought that movie was going to be great, and that scene confirmed my suspicions." The content of the article should let you know if wasnt being used literally.

FamilyGuy4106d ago

When people say "my suspicions" it usually entails a negative train of thought. The title is misleading and attention grabbing because of that. "Expected" is a more neutral word to use.

Suspicious: having or showing a cautious distrust of someone or something.

It's use in the title makes no sense when you look at the actual definition of the word and the positive expectations.

I'm annoyed that this site got my click.

EBTpickle4105d ago

The title wasnt meant to be taken literally. Lighten up.

specialguest4105d ago (Edited 4105d ago )

The "suspicion" term in the title has been blown out of proportion. It's like you people are way too sensitive from the past experience of real negative news from sites that purposely troll for hits. In this case, there was nothing negative or trolling intentions, just a quirky word play.

b777conehead4105d ago

No ebt it was used to get hits .

showtimefolks4105d ago

sony got a lot of feedback before PS4 and it seems like they have really worked hard on getting everything straight

CurrentDigital4105d ago

I also had the chance to meet someone with plenty of kind words for Sony at GDC.

Hicken4105d ago

I went to the same school as them.. many years later.

To everybody complaining about the title: EBTpickle still used the word correctly. It just so happens that the word generally has negative connotations. "Assumptions" would not have been more appropriate, as an assumption carries a far higher level of certainty than a suspicion. Still, it IS a bit misleading.

That said, we all already knew what the content of the article was gonna be: a dev says it's a great experience working with Sony. Not really sure why, when the article confirms everyone's own suspicions, they're having such trouble with it.

DanielGearSolid4106d ago

This article will expose ppl who don't read b4 commenting

But I guess my comment would warn them... And they won't be stupid

KwietStorm_BLM4106d ago

Not really in this case. I know what you're saying, but suspicions is the wrong word in context.

FamilyGuy4106d ago

Exactly!

Suspicious is a negative expectation, you don't suspect positive outcomes.

Suspicious: having or showing a cautious distrust of someone or something.

DanielGearSolid4106d ago

But how would u know it was used out of context without reading the article?

frostypants4106d ago (Edited 4106d ago )

Reading the article betrays the fact that the title is indeed misleading to anyone who actually knows the definition of "suspicious". It's not a matter of opinion. The word was mis-used, and likely in an effort to create hits.

cervantes994106d ago

Why use a bait and switch headline? I know it will garner clicks, but I am tired of all the tricks and deception used in articles these days.

Give me back my 300 page+ EGM magazine where the smell of ink and focus on the games was the story of the day.

IanVanCheese4106d ago

Because people will click it, and they wont without the bait title.

People complain bout them, but they always do better than non click bait titles.

cervantes994106d ago

If an author has to resort to misleading headlines to get people to read his or her article, then maybe the article shouldn't exist to begin with because it can't stand on its own merits.

gigoran4106d ago

I think it's hilarious! It got all the xbone fanboys excited to get their bashing on, and left them all disappointed. Soooooooooooo funny

Silly gameAr4105d ago

Though it is childish, I kind of suspect what gigoran said is true.

Flamingweazel4106d ago

MS is the opposite, controlling, poor policies, cold.

maniacmayhem4106d ago

Yea, which is why they have over 250 indie devs on board.

coolasj4106d ago

Signed up. It's the only way to get a devkit and it's free. You lose nothing from not signing up but that doesn't mean you have to make anything for/with it.

MasterCornholio4106d ago

But its still nothing compared to the PS4.

And DAT parity clause!

maniacmayhem4106d ago

That parity clause sux but I have a feeling MS is going to 180 that or change it around a tad.

It's getting to much attention and heat from devs and it's being thrown around a lot on forums.

darthv724106d ago

I can understand why MS has the parity clause. they dont want sloppy seconds. Neither would the PS4 if it were in a similar situation.

MasterCornholio4106d ago

Yeah I agree with you that Microsoft will be forced to get rid of it to gain more support from Indies. Indies might not seem like much but if one console gets a ton of them and the other pales in comparison it could damage the perception of the Xbox brand.

Flamingweazel4106d ago

useless number, many indies dont have a choice, many devs have said how bad MS is to deal with, and dat parity clause is an abomination in gaming.

Flamingweazel4106d ago

@DARTHY, that makes zero sense, Sony has been in the situation, they let anything on the console, many games have launched on xbox and ps later moron. How does the clause help indies? It doesnt its moronic and counter productive.

maniacmayhem4106d ago

@Flamingweazel

If it's such an abomination then why do they have 250+ indie devs signed up? It must not be as bad as you are making it out to be. There's always a choice, these devs have two other platforms they can take their game, even PC. There are always choices.

The clause is in place to make sure that Xbox gets either the game first or at the same time as the PS4. Plain and simple, it's getting flack because if a dev can't port it to Xbox before PS4 then they wont be allowed on Xbox One. That's were the problem is coming from.

Petebloodyonion4106d ago

I'm sorry but I don't see how Ms need to change their parity clause.

Here's a little something that is never mention is this discussion.

In this topics "you" refer as a future Indy developer

Ms is signing a contract with you as a member of the ID@xbox in which the terms are established.
Ms as the obligation to provide you with a free license, tools, support and no publishing fee for you game on a Ms platform
In exchange you are obliged to respect a parity clause.

Again MS is obliged to respect their part of the deal with you or any other signed members of the Id@Xbox program since it's a valid contract.

On the other hand Sony is promising nothing and as mention that they treat all publisher/developers the same way.
But they said that are willing to help Indy developers to work and publish on ps4.
Meaning that there's no obligations from Sony's part to Help you as a Indy developer.
Call them and they will see what they can do.
Probably all Indy group have a different deal with Sony, going from 100% help and all perks to they won't help you.

Again the contrast here is that Ms is obliged to help and provide you as signed member with what's stipulate in the contract compare to Sony who has no obligation to help you or provide you with free tools, etc.

LexHazard794105d ago

@cool,

You say that, but only because you couldnt help yourself from being negative about MS. Over 250 devs signed up which means they were all interested in Xbox One! If im not interested in something I wont get it! Simple as that.

@ master,

Yeah makes no sense to have a parity clause for indies. As long as the platform is getting the game it shouldnt matter. MS need to change that!

Song in the Smoke Studio Won’t be Making Another VR Title Just Yet

17-Bit definitely won't be releasing a sequel.

SullysCigar1255d ago

That's a shame, as it's one of the best games of 2021. Highly recommend.

Review: Song in the Smoke | VRFocus

VRFocus says: "Song in the Smoke is thoroughly engrossing to play. The level design is magnificent and becomes a real challenge the deeper in you get. Every day feels fresh and new, a mixture of joy when a new area is discovered and dread when a menacing growl suddenly appears from behind you."

Tour Three Game Development Studios in Kyoto, Japan, with Charming Video

Kyoto is one of Japan's most traditional cities, but there actually are three western-owned and mostly western-staffed development studios in the city, Q-Games, currently at work on The Tomorrow Children, Steeldiver's VITEI, and Galak-Z developers 17-Bit.
