IGN UK: Haze Review - A Resounding Disappointment

For all its promise to deliver a thoughtful take on the murkier aspects of war combined with Free Radical's proven prestige with first person shooters, ultimately Haze is a resounding disappointment that never truly shines in any department. Feeling for all intents and purposes like a game pulled from the last generation, only the most determined genre fan will be able to forgive all its shortcomings and be satisfied with the foundations it is built upon. A missed opportunity, it ultimately only raises the question of what could have been.

When i first heard of HAZE and Ubisoft, i predicted that it wouldnt fare well. I predicted correctly.

I think it's official that IGN America was over-harsh on Haze and should check their reviews over before posting. Everything else is averaging 6.0-6.5, which is average and okay. I'm looking forward to playing it soon!

Stop depending on reviews and make the decision yourself. You're probably one of those guys who buy things just to be "cool." I didn't like Halo. So. So what? I never understood why this game was getting so much hype.... I remember seeing the trailer for when it was announced at E3 and it looked blan then and never really changed since then. The whole Necture thing sounded cool, but with sh!t gameplay, its nothing. Its really no surprise this game is getting such bad reviews with the FPS market being the way it is.

Haze has never been AAA. GTA, MGS, FF, Halo, GT, GeoW are all PROVEN AAA titles that a lot of none gamers have heard of and practically every gamer knows of. I have gamer friends who visit IGN once in a while, and they don't even know what Haze is. Besides this site most people who did know what it was expected it to be junk.

I was not expecting this game to be ragged on like this. I have not seen anything like this since "LAIR" which was very, very, early in the PS3's life-cycle.

I still say go out and buy the game and play for urself. But really, unless the game is like the next "ET" developers do not deserve to be chewed up like that.

These guys put work into something that might not been their best work(From what I have read) but then again, it's on an Architecture that requires EXTRA Man hours to utilize. YES the PS3 is part of the problem, if your a SMALL DEV TEAM that do not get strong backing and support from sony like 1st-party devs do.

Well you always have next time, or use a more SAFER platform. Or just go multiplat to be safe.

I own a 360 and a ps3. This game is better then blacksite on the 360, Turok on the 360, Conflict denied ops on the 360, and especially the putrid Turning point on the 360, and it received worse reviews then all those turds. Is it because it is on the ps3? Blacksite, Turingpoint and Turok all used the almighty unreal engine and all those games had real bad framerate issues. This game runs silky smooth compared to them. The graphics in Haze are much better then any of those games also. Haze isn't the best Fps right now, but they were alittle rough on their reviews. It should have been rated higher then these turds. Hell, the only Fps to step it up this year was Call of Duty 4. Until they can come close to Call of Duty 4, then no Fps should get good reviews. Oh by the way Halo 3 sucked also@@@@

it was a Fps shooter. I didn't see my guy on the screen, only a gun. I thought that was a first person point of view. It certainly wasn't a 3rd person point of view like gears of war.

that this game is way better then the reviews its getting. It way better then any 360 shooter that has come out lately. It blows Turok, Turning point, Conflict denied ops, Blacksite out of the water. Those games I just listed received better reviews then Haze, come on people those games sucked big time. Hell, Blacksite,FrontlinesTurning point and Turok all used the almighty Unreal engine and they had such putrid framerate issues. Haze looks and runs silky smooth compared to these fps and is a hell of lot funner and receives worse reviews. Somethings fishy in Denmark. Any one who owns a ps3 should rent the game and see for themselves if they like it and shouldn't listen to all the xbots in here. This game is no lair, what a joke comparing two different generes.

It is technically better and I find it fun
but the storyline is weak very weak.

All in all I recommend playing the Multiplayer side... asymmetric warfare is fun but the coop with mandatory wait till the cut scene is done is bad.

they should have pulled a Warhawk... pulled the Single player campaign and gone pure online madness. The asymmetric warfare would have been their differential over other online shooters.

I wasn't excited by this game, I played the demo and really didn't like it. It's a decent game, but COD4 set the bar a bit too high, that and also I've got GTAIV so that may've lessened it down a bit. Here's what G4 said though:

Some of us didn't we went by the demo way before the reviews came out. So actually the reviews pretty much confirmed what the rest of the game is going to be like with what I got from the demo. SO yes I WENT WITH MY INSTINCT ON THIS GAME LOL

it's just my opinion, based on the first 45 minutes of play, but i think haze is terrible. the NPCs are incredibly irritating, and the gameplay is crap. i'm really glad it got all those bad reviews cos otherwise i might have bought instead of rented it, and i'd be really annoyed at having wasted my money.
