Sony Claims Success for PS4 and PS3 in the Free to Play Market; Shows F2P Has Legs on Consoles

During the Game Developers Conference Sony Computer Entertainment America held a very interesting panel titled “F2P on PS4-Can it Work?” addressing the company’s recent push in the Free to Play market, and according to the speakers, it has been a definite success.

I've never been into f2p games until the PS4. Warframe and Blacklight are all terrific offerings and carry the console between AAA releases.

F2P and Indie games may not be system sellers, but they make great system justifiers. They ensure you'll never run out of things to play, especially with PS+.

not always. DCOU does a really good job. Also, play Loadout on the PC. the only real money things are visual changes to characters. There are ways to make a FTP game work and be fun for EVERYONE. the key for FTP game makers is to make a free game engaging enough to where people WANT to spend money on extra bells and whistles.

That's not it. There just aren't any f2p games worth mentioning on the Wii U, so he's gotta downplay them on Sony consoles.

I love f2p games they give you a good idea of what the game is all about without spending a dime. You can then decide where your money goes

I don't know why but i reallllly enjoy War Thunder.. Ive not really enjoyed the other f2p games yet..

Looking forward to Planetside though.. Even more so if they ever add Morpheus support. :O

No thanks, I did download DC Universe for the PS4 and played it for about 40 minutes and will never touch it again. It is just not the type of games for me.

I forgot to mention that I already got the game on PS3 previously so everything transferred over to the PS4 version so no crappy tutorial again, which is kind of nice I guess. In total combining the PS3 and PS4 version, I have about 6 hours total with the game. I might give Planetside 2 a go though just out of curiosity when it does get released on the PS4.

honestly that is why i stopped playing on the ps3 the tutorial was painful and it late at night and just didn't have it in me to play this game. Im just not a fan of tutorials like that at all, just let me get into the game and play

by far the worst tutorial ever. and also, the game is really slow to get into. a bit clunky. its not a great game. but its not a terrible game either. its just a game. :-p

Thats exactly where u made your mistake is only playing it for 40 minutes. This game the real fun doesn't begin until u hit level 30 because thats when u get alot better gear from there. This is an mmo so anyone who gave up after 40 minutes in any mmo, obviously gave up on the game too early.

I would love some more F2P MMORPGs on the PS4. I really enjoyed DCUO. I would like it SWTOR came to the PS4 as well, but that is doubtful.

And we are still missing war thunder here in the US.

F2P on ps4 is a very very nice commadety, it really give players a whole new game for free. Then add on the PS+ games you have a game to play.

Also warframe is about the best game on f2p.

So far the only ftp games I've hand a hand at are Dust and DC Universe Online. I'll admit, Dust was ok for awhile, then I got bought Borderlands and forgot about it. (it happens) DCUO is really really fun but at 3mb those endless updates sure aren't.
