PS4 VR Headset's Screen Latency Is A Bit Pixelized, Users Can See The Ground, No Motion Sickness

"Unless you are living under the rock, Sony have announced their entry into the world of Virtual Reality. They announced their project yesterday during the ongoing Game Developers Conference. Following up our story yesterday, we have a got few more tid-bits regarding the VR headset."

Seems great, particularly for a first attempt and presumably a demo unit. The cage shaking during the shark attack was a bit odd to mention as unless you had on a full body suit or you were inside some kind of sumulator, how would you recreate the shaking.

This all sounds phenomenal to me and if people temper their expectations to reality of this being a 200 to 300 dollar unit, it becomes very exciting.

I hope it works out and killer apps are developed for it. Cool concept overall.

Looks really polished for a demo unit. Sony sure knows how to market their machines.

So there many questions about the VR technology, How much tessellation does it have? , and purely what happen to people with prescription lenses, and there option to turn down the volume of the game, and if you require an audio input to the Tv?

Volkama4112d ago

Your questions are bad. Sorry.

porkChop4112d ago

1) Tessellation has nothing to do with VR, that's up to the developer and whether or not they choose to utilize the feature.

2) Sony stated already that people with glasses can use the headset without any problems. They accounted for this when they designed it.

3) Yes you can turn the volume down. Whether it would be through built-in buttons, or through the PS4/game, we don't know.

4) No. The audio comes directly from the PS4. If you want, you can also plug your own headphones into the headset.

I wonder if being able to see the ground is deliberately part of the design to stop people walking into stuff.

brave27heart4112d ago

Im sorry but who walks around with a Vr headset on? Most of the time you'll be sat down as normal. Games won't track your footsteps, you wont have to walk around your living room to explore.

But since Morpheus supports full 360° rotation of the wearer it would make sense to stand... Move-Games also 'required' standing. Since VR and Move will pair nicely I don't see that you will play everything sitting down.

Raf1k14112d ago (Edited 4112d ago )

Thought that was the point of VR?

If you're just sitting then it's not much better than sticking a small screen in front of your eyes.

There's an app that shows you the stars and constellations which you can look around by physically moving the phone. Put that in front of your eyes while you use it and it's not much different to what these things offer.

webeblazing4112d ago

yeah but in you look at some OR demo some game can throw off your balance and that could be dangerous. im sure they will find a solution to this. and im sure it depend on the games also.

specialguest4112d ago (Edited 4112d ago )

Seeing the ground will not be an issue since there will most likely be something you can attach underneath to cover the gap. The sony hmz t1 came with an attachment and it'll be the same case for sonys vr headset.

Lol, maybe I'm becoming an old fart, but excessive violence in VR seems to bother me more than in flat games. Feels more visceral when you're looking a person in the eyes before mutilating them.

By no means am I trying to be a prude and saying these games shouldn't exist. I just play them more sparingly, need more breaks. I need some beautiful, refreshing & relaxing VR experiences too to balance them out so I don't feel so heavy.

I’m an old fart too. I couldn’t believe how violent saints and sinners was.

IMO, there's two that are better than all these (except maybe Beat Saber), Thrill of the Fight and AUDICA.
