Oh stop with that silly, tired excuse.

First of all, those 40+ markets aren't Americas, UKs, Japans, or even Spains. They are countries that sell a couple thousand consoles in an entire year. The sales from those countries are absolutely miniature.

Second of all, most of those markets are places where PS tends to win out. Xbone doesn't have a chance in hell of beating PS4 in the regions that they didn't bother launching in yet. Especially with it being a more expensive system in countries where most people can't even afford a Ps4.

MS released X1's where the XBOX 360 sold the most and you can literally walk into any store and walk out with an XBOX ONE in those areas. The PS4 is outpacing MS in all those areas as well and are in limited supply and hard to find. MS said they are producing as many units as Sony is with the PS4. If that's the case where are the storing nearly 3 million units?

Seems the subject of markets where the product is sold is always avoided.

No one expects a product selling in 13 countries to sell at the same rate as another product selling in the same 13 countries plus 44 more countries.

MS established itself in 41 countries last gen and will be adding to the current 13 in Q4.

Well OVER 40% of 360 sales came from outside the US.

In an apples to apples comparison (a fanboys worst nightmare), let's take the largest game market, the US, more money has been spent on the X1 than the PS4, and the difference in units sold is less than 300k and dropping fast.

If xbox had even lead in any territory, you might have a point. You fail to realize Ps4 leads in every single territory that they are both in. More territory means nothing when you are constantly outsold in every and I mean every territory you sell in.

The basis of you argument is flawed. America doesn't equal the world and sold less consoles last gen than europe.

You're talking about markets that sell a couple thousand systems total combined in an entire year and always favor PS anyway (and considering it's cheaper and the countries are more poor than in the Xbone markets, PS4 is a guarantee win by a wide margin anyway).

Actually...well...no. X1 had a huge launch compared to prior launches. However, after that, it pretty much has dropped precipitously thereafter. There wasn't a real spike in sales until the TitanFall bundle. PS4, on the other hand, has spiked each time that it has become available. E3 will show that each console has a healthy future. But, if you think that Sony doesn't have an arsenal to battle whatever MS has, I think you would be miscalculated. They both want success, and to an extent, they will both be successful. As of right now, it seems Sony will be more so. But, the industry is fickle and things could change.

There's something called internal accounting and external accounting. The public has access to the external accounts but the internal ones are only seen by Sony.

Guess which ones contain the cost of the console?

P.S This is why hardware breakdowns are so unreliable because they dont take into account the real direct costs or indirect costs of the company.

You do realise "Sony" is a massive, massive company right? It employs nearly 1.5 times the people Microsoft does. Let's keep the financial arguments to the gaming department here.

Edit: just to update, Sony Computer Entertainment 2013 quarter 3 (to Dec 2013) financial results saw a sales increase of 64% year on year and an operating income increase of $172m.

That was the end of last year. The PS4 has dominated since. Sony's gaming division are no way in the red.

WIth inFamous SS, The Order and PlanetSide 2 the PS4 should pick up even more momentum and if Uncharted 4 hits hard and sets the bar for this generation: greatness awaits!!

I wouldn't go as far as they are kicking their ass. I traded my ps4 in for an xbox one last week and I am so much happier, more friends to play with, better game so far, and the kinect really is something I will use for the next 6 years. Sony took advantage of microsofts blunders an now Microsoft is catching up. Xbone will win In the end. Sony is sill riding the hype wave from launch which won't last much longer. My last point is the price tag. I know for a fact that kids saving up money will want the cheapest thing so they can get it faster. That's where the ps4 is getting a lot of sales from.

"Xbone will win In the end." - the only possible way this could happen is if MS buy massive exclusives every single year and I would be shocked if MS did this. They have never poured money into the Xbox. They ended up last gen pouring even less resources into the Xbox division and aimed at the casual market instead with Kinect for the cheaper buck.

Their E3 showing last year showed just how void they are as a gaming company. It was anti-gamer all the way, then they pathetically reversed their decisions. Now they come out saying their focus is back on the gamer with the likes of Titanfall. My ass. They need to buy these exclusives just to keep up. They did it last gen, they did it this gen but this gen Sony has it's shit together from the off. They had a really bad start with PS3 and still outsold the 360 that had a year headstart.

Microsoft represent everything I don't want to be associated with in terms of gaming. Companies like Sony, Valve and Nintendo have gaming in their soul, Microsoft don't. If they did, they would have world class first party studios to back that statement up and wouldn't be buying third party exclusives to boost their image.

It's nice that you actually provide these strains of hope for yourself.

But ultimately it's unhealthy, cause reality prevails.

1) PS4 is dominating, in the US of all places, which is meant to be Microsoft's home territory. AND that is before Sony has really brought their A-game to the table. If they are doing as well as they are now with only a handful of AAA titles, what do you think is going to happen in a few months? When massive games like PlanetSide 2 come out in the summer? Or when PS4 gets support from a wider variety of genres and a wider selection of second and third party developers, like Sony always does?

And when the larger, more ambitious indie games come out such as Shadow of the Beast, RIME, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, SOMA, Daylight etc etc? These games Xbone just doesn't have, you know.

2) PS3 had a multitude of issues last gen, 360 had the upper hand. PS3 still outsold and outperformed the 360 pretty much every single year on the market. PS4 has none of these issues. It will be ahead the entire generation, especially when Sony starts bringing out their renowned exclusive domination.

PlayStation is the bigger, more popular gaming brand worldwide, because of the way they have provided for gamers over the years. It's better to face reality, than caress yourself with delusions.

And lastly, PRICE is only one reason PS4 is flying off the shelves. But I'll let you reminisce over the past year's activities to truly figure out why that is.

It's not hard to figure out, granted no game to date has really been a reason to invest in a new console. Infamous might change that, but these consoles are just getting started, who knows what we will see 5-10 years down the line.

If you like FPS, and like console play over PC, then right now Xbone is a reason to invest in a new console as titanfall isn't out yet on 360, and who knows how true it'll be to the PC or xbone version.

It doesn't.. I was a ps2/ps3 gamer and recently traded my ps4 in for an xbox one. I want something different which is what i got. Infamous was my favorite game on the ps3 over any other game.

Basicaly the message i got with this video and i agree with it. Ever since the unveiling and the DRM scandal i knew that Microsoft thought it had a monopoly in the console gaming industry. Luckily consumers saw that and the backlash caused them to change many of their monopolistic policy's.

I really don't believe that MS thought they had a monopoly. I know they came across that way, but they really aren't that stupid.

What I do think is that they thought they had a lot more clout among the hardcore community than they really did. I really think they believed that a major chunk of their fan base would simply accept whatever they were offered. They disregarded the warning signs before the reveal. They disregarded the grumblings of 360 fans concerned or upset about their lack of hardcore support later in the systems life, and they disregarded that Sony was rather quietly building a stronger fan base by delivering one exciting exclusive after another for the past 3 years.

What's worse is that Sony blindsided them with a reveal, likely forcing MS to move up it's plans to release the system. However, in doing so they didn't pay attention to all the good things Sony was offering, and that they absolutely had to know people wouldn't be happy about what MS had to offer instead. Trust me, MS is no stranger to controversial DRM in it's products.

MS screwed up, and they're paying the price. I think the machine is pretty decent, but to date, there has been nothing compelling to make me want to buy it, and I don't have a lot of faith they will make decisions that will be in either my, or the industries best interest over the course of this generation.

Realistically, if MS hadn't of had their initial policies attached to the X1, I really believe that they would be very close in sales to the PS4 right now. I know MS fan boys will say those policies are gone now, but doing so only disregards the fact that people's memories aren't that short, and those policies leave a bitter taste in most gamers mouths.
