A good indication of what sales will be like when npd is released, i expect this kind of buzz for xbox one when titanfall launches but i don't think the momentum will sustain.

It's only estimates. A handful of retailers here and there are called up and asked about their numbers, and the totals are approximated from that.

It's not "pure fiction," since the numbers are based on some measure of fact. Obviously, as estimates, they're not likely to be spot-on, so of course the numbers would be corrected once more accurate data comes out.

Oh please, their estimates aren't usually THAT wildly off. So they've estimated that Xbone outsold Ps4 in its home region, a week before a big release...just wait for the global numbers in which Ps4 probably sells 80K-100K more than Xbone WW.

@silent Their estimates have been off by a lot the last few months. VGC over tracked the Xbox One 90k in January in the US alone. They have PS4 202,126
Xbox One 142,654 in US for February. So according to VGC the PS4 sold 70k less in February than January. I doubt it.

You do realize that npd is not 100% accurate, look it up, there is no way to track sell in versus shipped, not 100% atleast. Npd is just a bigger firm more professional, but the fact remains that it is never 100% despite who gives the info.

Edit: Ive seen ps4s in the best buy and walmarts here in California. Havent been to target and not really hunting for them either. But they are in stock. So no they aren't sold out "everywhere". Majority of places yes

I was thinking the same thing. I wonder how many PS4's are being held back for Infamous bundles. That should definitely spike sales the week it's released. I have a few friends and family members that purchased that bundle. Not just because they're Infamous fans but because they knew they could lock down a PS4.

I believe Sony is controlling losses while they prepare for the end of their fiscal year at the end of the month. Sony was producing and selling 700k a week in Nov and Dec. They are averaging 170k a week since January 2014. If they aren't in stores, chances are they aren't in production. I would imagine production will ramp back up in April.

edit: actually scratch that you are correct. The launch week in Japan would have produced some constraints to these regions. However, I'm still not sure why the numbers are down this week when it is mostly sold out again.

The shipments that should've gone to the US, went to Japan. the PS4 is sold out because there are no PS4s to buy, the US sales are running on fumes that are quickly exhausting. Sony will now be rebuilding supply.

This would be logical if Sony was still selling 700,000 a week worldwide. They are selling about 170,000 a week for the last 10 weeks. The consoles just aren't there. Sony already has proven they can produce and sell through much, much more than they are today.

Sony produces about 1 million PS4s a month. without 400k that's 600k. divided by 4 weeks that's 150k. divided by two continents that's 75k.
Because Sony had to divert all available PS4s to Japan to have 400k for 1 week there, that means the US should now be getting extra restock instead of Japan: I'd predict 150k a week, as it was 0k for the last two weeks. just in time for Infamous.

If Sony can only produce 1 million per month, how did they sell 4.3 million in 6 weeks? They were shipping in batches and continously selling out week after week. Sony sold out of their initial supply within a couple days of launch. If they had built up a supply of 3.3 million consoles prior to December, why were stores constantly sold out?

Even if you were correct on the 1 million per month, with sales of 170k a week, there should be close to 1 million consoles in the retail channel right now. I think we can both agree that isn't the case.

Pre-orders are close because they are only US pre-orders and given the install base of the 2 consoles it is a fairly safe estimation by vgchartz. Nothing off there.

Also look at the global chart. PS4 is ahead in software by a realistic amount.

I dont think it's strange. To date, I have bought.... (whips out fingers)... seven, maybe eight games, for my Xbox One (BF4, Forza, DR3, KI, PVZ, Peggle, Titanfall, Spartan Assault). Meanwhile, I have purchased a single game for mt PS4 (Killzone), yet I have equally as many games on my PS4. Why? Most of the software on my PS4 is either F2P or I have downloaded through their promotional program (whose name escapes me atm).

Granted, the only multiplatform game I have is BF4, and I bought it for my Xbox, so I'm a unique case. I imagine most Sony gamers have bought at least 2-3 games for their console. But, with so many F2P/free game offerings, it's not hard to understand why software sales are lower.

If these numbers have any merit to them, and this becomes a trend, it looks like XB1 will overtake PS4 in the US sometime soon. Good news for a console that many were convinced would be "destroyed" on home turf.

Except that the xb1 sales bump is unlikely to last as its due to Titanfall. There are no real system sellers anymore, a new game comes out and there is a one or two week increase in sales. After that it's usually back to normal.

PS4 is going to sell more software in March. Take me for example.

I have a 360 and a PS4 (someone stole my PS3 where I actually did most of my gaming).

I have only bought one (1) game this year, BF4. I download every PS+ game that is offered but I have only played Contrast, which I recommend BTW it's light and kiddie but well done.

However, I will buy 2 PS4 games this month, Infamous and Metal Gear Solid.

PS4 will win March because 2 beats 1. Even though MGS is releasing on both consoles,it'll sell a good deal more on Playstation, both in the states and worldwide.

Right now were are seeing some TitanFall bump in software but no Infamous bump and no MGS bump. So this is not a good time to compare.

gamestop.com had not had it for a very long time. it only sold pre-orders for a bundle with Infamous. amazon.com didn't have it either, it's still not there. those are probably the biggest online retailers in the US, when it comes to games. I know there are stores in cities that have it but who cares. bestbuy.com is also sold-out.

As you probably expect - X1 with free TitanFall is (and has been) available everywhere.

PS4 seems undertracked. Stock is still very low or OOS almost everywhere. Either that or Sony is severely falling behind on supply.

At this rate PS4 will sell about 400-500k in March which seems low. If infamous sells a lot of consoles it should be more like 600-700k in March.

Even then it's still outselling Xbox almost 2:1 globally the week before Titanfall launches.

Since Sony is still having problems to supply demand and Titanfall released in March the xbone may got the month of March only on the US, they better because if not they are in big trouble.

I still stand by saying that we won't have a true sense of how the consoles stand until after next Christmas. My hope is that it stays competitive ALL GEN. We aren't even at the 4 month mark and both consoles are doing really well for a launch window. I do however notice that on this site, if XB1 appears to be doing better in any of these chart articles...it's all "these are just estimates" "oh yeah but globally..." (57 vs 13...)and "these sources are such frauds, the real numbers haven't come out yet" but if it's the other way...it's dancing in the streets cause the "facts" say the the Bone is getting crushed. All I'm saying is can we stop being childishly biased about this now and just play some games.

What sticks out to me about this chart is that XB1 gamers are buying a lot of games...despite XB1 having sold 200k less consoles...it's sold 30k more games this period and 600k more total. Despite the major game to come out in this time frame(thief) barely selling more on PS4 than on XB1. Must mean that XB1 gamers are buying more and more variety of games.
