This particular uncanny valley is where the Crystal Pixel award-winning game Darklings has planted its weirdly adorable aesthetic. Lum, the odd little sprig of light that you pilor throughout the game, is just a little sinister looking in its domino mask; the dark creatures that steadily stalk you from the ever-shifting and always nighttime landscape are equal parts snuggly and creepy. The hearts and power-ups you collect have a candy-like sweetness to them, and the relentless progress of the enemies is winsome while also creating genuine tension."
