Game developers favor the PC, smartphones, and PlayStation 4 over Xbox One

The survey of attendees of the upcoming conference sheds light on the attitudes of game developers, who have more choices than ever for game platforms. Game developers are key to the success of any platform, from the iPhone to the new generation of consoles, since great games are primary drivers of platform adoption by consumers in this multibillion dollar worldwide market.

About 20 percent of game developers said that for their next game, they will develop for Sony’s PlayStation, compared to 17 percent for the competing Xbox One and just 4 percent for Nintendo’s Wii U. A year ago, support for the new Wii U was already flagging, and this pretty much doomed it. Nintendo recently acknowledged that the Wii U suffering from weak sales.

They're going to favor one thing over the other if it has the potential to make them more money over something else! That's just common sense 101.

Pandamobile3721d ago

PC/mobile is also where 90% of the innovation is happening these days, so that'll lure a lot of developers in as well.

Muffins12233721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

Flappy bird was so innovative man,GOTY right there.Honestly mobile game developers dont really have that passion for gaming as the ones making the next gen titles that i am seeing.Mobile game developers usually just care about money with the in-app purchases and ads and shit. When you say 90% innovations, you mean where the money is at?Maybe its because people like my middle-aged mom who decide to get ripped off and buy shit in candy crush?Cause that's the reason why mobile games make so much money compared to console.Their a rip-off at times.

Sarcasm3721d ago

^Muffin's don't bother talking to Pandamobile. To him it's PC > Everything else. No sense in trying to convince him otherwise.

sorane3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

@Sarcasm

I don't see what's wrong with anything he said. PC has created minecraft, mobas, survival, ftp, indies, mmos, etc etc etc just recently. When was the last time a console created a whole original genre of games? They seem too busy releasing the same generic fps and third person action rehashes over and over again all of which were copied from yup, PC games.

pandehz3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

I agree

Pc has introduced a large variety of games for almost any type of gamer and innovate consistently.

Same with mobile/tablet gaming which have given rise to on the go, pick up n play, small versions of co-op n mp. Well of course they have micro transactions cause its right in your face and in your pocket all the time, but the variety of games are huge and quite unique.

Pandamobile3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

Mobile is where the a lot of the business side of gaming is innovating. You can't deny that.

PC is where many different developers and hardware teams are creating new ways to play and experience games. The Oculus Rift is going to help change the face of gaming forever. Next Gen consoles are just new iterations on old technology.

Maxor3721d ago

How is the PC not the most innovative platform? It only created FPS, MMOs, social media games, free to play, and entire concept of digital downloads.

Basically everything on the console today is derived directly from PC innovations in both tech, and business model. I can't remember the last time the console innovated on anything...oh, wait. Motion controls. And we all know much gamers love that am I right kids?

morganfell3721d ago

I can see the Microsoft press release now,

"Xbox One favored by developers over the Wii U, the PS2 and the Dreamcast!"

Volkama3721d ago (Edited 3721d ago )

No you can't do that! Look at the article headline! It is imperative that you draw the good-bad dividing line between the PS4 and One, even though there is clearly move significance in the data putting phones and PCs a long way ahead of consoles.

52% PC
51% Phone
20% PS4
---- CUT OFF POINT FOR COOL ----
17% One

So many said the end is coming for consoles with the rise of phones and tablets. With the success of the PS 4 to date one has to wonder if this is making developers rethink.

ovnipc3721d ago

Combining both consoles they sold 9mil in less than 4 months by the end of the years it can go up,to 20mil consoles are not going away anytime soon.

Geekman3721d ago

This guy went on a rant about the Wii U for a paragraph before he got back on track........

Eonjay3721d ago

its not by much though. The reason why they favor the PS4 is because its easier to work with. This means you have to pay programmers less and you can move to market faster. In the future though as Microsoft rolls out the new SDK, it may be easier for them to and thus the number may even out. Another reason developers my prefer the PS4 is simply due to the larger install base.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
