Short Waves and PS3F, two new PS3 emulators in development

Last month we told you about RPCS3 a Playstation 3 emulator. Today we bring you two to keep track, Short Waves and PS3F.

The first, developed by InoriRus, is now at version 0.0.2 and logically, for now, in these early stages of development, can only run certain homebrew.

Sony should hire them to make ps3 emulator for ps4 :)

Gonna be really hard due to architecture differences, hence why Sony are going down the streaming route with Playstation Now.

Good luck

They'll need it to get PS3 games running even somewhat properly on PC's.

I'd say, if you want to play PS3 games that bad, just get a PS3 and stick to older titles for your emulator fix.

Pathetic, PS3's are really cheap now.

Ehh try to think of it as someone wanting a challenge usually the creator does it because its a passion what comee of that well >.>

Also ps3 games are huge I don't see anyone downloading them for a emulator that will be laggy as hell lol

You can use legit discs to play games using an emulator. It's not always about piracy.

@SonyNGP
But then you would need the BIOS which is Illegal to download.

Why pathetic ? By the time it's running properly and people get the machine powerful enough to run it easily , the ps3 would have lived its full shelf life , and it's nice to have access to it without being necessarily tied to remakes or streaming solutions .

Or you'd rather keep hoping , as an example , and as seen with the ps2 , Square Enix decides to releases a FFXII remaster ?

I even actually support and buy those kind of remaster , when they deserve it , but the way they are cherry picked make sure too many gems got left in the dust . Even PS NOW , if it even work flawlessly to begin with , wont provide every games from the get go

First of all I'm one of the biggest fans of Playstation. But honestly, I doubt that this emulator will work or run on powerful/mid range PCs, even on Haswell Intel cpu and AMD FX 8-cores without any hiccups or performance problems..

As we all know, PS3 is known to be notorious to program for. And even professional programmers and developers admitted that it's a pain in the arse to work and optimize...

You would need a 16 core Xeon or Dual socket mobo with 2x 6-core Intel core i7 extreme to be able to run PS3 emulated games on at least 720p @24fps. Not to mention there would be glitches and bugs..

Just like the PCSX2 emulator, which I have also, still can't perform smoothly like on the original PS2 system, even if my Machine can handle all the task that this stressful app brings.. Still there are Performance drop, glitches, crashes and whatnot..

Anyhow, this is a great news for PC enthusiast cause this emulator would squeeze your powerful PC's full potential.. That is, if you really want a challenge..

The PS3 gonna be a hard thing to emulate, especially the games that use it's CPU in really interesting ways.
