According to the german website gamona.de, there is an Outcast remake in the works. They interviewed Franck Sauer from Daoka.
"And what happens to your project Fresh Engine now that you are at Daoka? Sauer: "Fresh3D is still the owner of FreshEngine. And right now we are analyzing and porting the original Outcast code to FreshEngine."
"Now, I'm not sure if a new Outcast product comes out it will bare the Daoka name, but it's not important. What's important is the people, and our willingness to have the Outcast universe coming back to its roots."
Digital Foundry : Outcast first launched in 1999 delivering state-of-the-art voxel-driven visuals in what was then a novel open-world design - but its sequel never landed... until now. In this special video, John Linneman tells the story of the original game, its technology and off-shoot projects before concentrating on Outcast: A New Beginning, which finally realises the original developer's vision for a full Outcast sequel.
Outcast is an outstanding experience, supported by unparalleled quality in every single creative facet of its design.
Outcast: Second Contact is an HD remake of the 1999 cult classic Outcast. Though the enhanced graphics are a nice way to introduce the game to a younger audience, it's the only aspect that makes it better than the 1.1 version, which costs considerably less. The price range is questionable in the US marketplace but it's even more absurd in selected countries such as Russia, Brazil, and China where it costs more than $30.
