Rayout: "The two male leads, Aoba and Dio, begin this episode with inner conflict. Aoba’s rash actions on the battlefield in the previous episode leave pilot Lee Conrad injured, so, naturally, Aoba becomes reluctant to pilot a Valiancer. Dio believes that Aoba is receiving unfairly lenient treatment for irresponsible actions, and his belief is largely true. We as viewers know that these conflicts will be resolved sooner rather than later, facilitating character growth in the process."
