New Killzone 2 Screenshots

Here are a couple new screenshots from the direct feed trailer shown at Sony Days.

LaChance6244d ago

the INCREDIBLE , UNBELIEVABLE , completely impossible on any other console graphics everybody was talking about in the Geow 2 threads ???????!!!!!!!!

So this is the reason you guys prefer KZ2 over Geow 2 ???????

LMAO.

Oh well I geuss we all have differant opinions and demands.

Empyrean_Eclipse6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

its completely impossible for 360 to have this kind of graphics. Gears OF War 2 cant beat this game, unless they use this Killzone 2 engine.

Go see the gameplay video, 360 dies next year feb.

"Oh well I geuss we all have differant opinions and demands."

well your opinion and demands sucks.

Antan6244d ago

"Oh well I geuss we all have differant opinions and demands."

Differing opinions and demands are forbidden on N4G.

WIIIS16244d ago

Exact same sentiments. KZ2 is completely lacking in details and lighting effect when compared to Gears 2.

LorD6244d ago

@BS3

You are kidding right??? Have you actually looked at the pictures??

The Closing6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

You can't honestly say you think Gears looks better. You just can't.

They both look fantastic though.

heyheyhey6244d ago

bad screenie is all

Gears 2 footage looked very sub-par, almost no improvement over original Gears except for lighting

Killzone 2 acheives CGI level quality in-game. nuff said

mesh16244d ago

compare killzone to this http://forums.gametrailers.... and you will see why sony is in trouble after watching this new footage i will never buy a ps3 what for 360 games in the fuftre are evening looking better than a game that has had a5yr devlopment http://forums.gametrailers.... plz make a thread about gears pics and lets comapre them to killzone 2

The Closing6244d ago (Edited 6243d ago )

http://www.pro-gamers.fr/in...

Graphically looks very similar to the first. The background look very cool though almost like a painting. Killzone 2 hands down looks more realistic, but Gears is proven to be an extremely fun game to back it up.

Anyone who says otherwise just because they own one system or the other is a completely delusional moron. Lets face it anyone who enjoys shooters wouldn't have much to be complaining about either of these games if they were cross platform.

zethos566243d ago

Those screens weren't mind-blowing but the video was.

when I look at that it makes me wonder how the PS3 games are gonna look near the end of it's life cycle

and It makes me wonder what the next generation could possibly look like.

But realistically, i think the next gen will just make it closer to realism like different individual skin pores, muscle tissue etc.

but how hard would it be to program for that not to mention how expensive.

I mean look at our standards for the ps1 era, any good fun ol game would do, and look at now the ps3/360 era.

sorry for the rant lol

NoUseMerc6244d ago

I'll have to say, I have yet to see an Xbox 360 game with the same graphical quality that Killzone 2 has. Now I know Killzone 2 isn't great when it comes to color and that it carries a heavy gray and black color, but the animations and lighting technology behind the game are simply amazing.

spandexxking6244d ago

@1.1 why does colour have to be everything? not a dig at you but why does everyone give killzone 2 beef for the colour choice.

thor6244d ago

Killzone may not have any blue or green but I love the colour of the sky, and the colours of the explosions and effects which contrast so vividly with the battle. A very nice art style indeed.

NoUseMerc6244d ago

Well cause I feel like everything is gray not because of art direction but to cut back on memory. I don't know if that is truly the reason, but it would be nice if at least the blood was red.

Daz6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

There one thing that some people dont get. They thing it just power of the console that makes good graphics is does help alot thought but it all comes down to the technology they use. like the in house tools they make e.g lighting system and the money they have to use and 4 years to make it. Well is commen sence really.

You can tell sony has put alot of effort, money and time into this.

ALot they can do in that time.

Hopefully the gameplay is good and not just a shiny turd like i thought of crysis (not all what it was ment up to be) :P. DOnt take this to harsh im just saying my opinion.

Happy gaming :)

TresTrendu6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

You are exactly right, running a high res with full color eat's alot of memory up. So in order to free memory up drop color's, which i wished they would have done with GT5Prologue other than the london track. Everything look's like bleh, to plain and no atmosphere at all. Heck crossing 2 sprite's to make tree's was being done 15 year's ago.

LorD6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

@NoUseMerc
@TresTrendu

The color palette has NOTHING to do with saving memory. None whatsoever, the game uses those colors to provide atmosphere; their choice is strictly for art direction and mood.

How would you like your Helfghast(sp?) soldiers sporting hot-pink helmets??... :D

Tarasque6244d ago

The color pallette has everything to do with it, they chose graphic's over art direction far as color goes. The only way to achieve those graphic's on the ps3 with it's memory limatation's is to strip out all the color's. Which is great cause we get to see these great graphic's, but i don't know if i am to fond of looking at grey all the time for everything. Have you watched the video heck even the soldier skin is toned gray, sure it doesn't need full blow color cause the gritty futuristic setting but some color would have helped alot.

titntin6244d ago

Sorry, but to argue that they have dropped colours to save memory is possibly the daftest comment I've ever read here.

All textures in KZ2 are 32 bit. 24 bit colour space with 8 bit alpha space.

This is a fact. I've been a games artist for over 15 years, and you can trust me on this, the game engine architecture is optimized to push 32 bit data for the textures - it would gain nothing at all by dropping a few bits here and there, and there has NEVER been a game engine that did this - its complete madness to even suggest it, and I wander why you would?

Utalkin2me6244d ago

OK, who care's if the color is gone to save memory or whatever. Ok all i know is the color is gone and it make's it look like crap. How about that for an answer, sorry the game's look's great but i couldn't stand playing it in just a few color's. I could care less the reasoning of it is, i just know colorwise it look's like sh1t.

heyheyhey6244d ago

@tintin

this guy just served the idiots a GIANT can of whup-ass

they dropped the colour in KZ2 because it makes the game more atmospheric, this is a heated warzone remember? not a paintball arena

you can't "save" memory by dropping colours, thats bullsh!t from people who desperatley want to find a flaw with KZ2's brilliance (i.e 360 fans)

Utalkin2me6243d ago

If you want to know how color depth affect's memory go here. Also it say's you can do opposite high color depth but low res texture to balance out your frame's.

http://rocketland.planetqua...

titntin6243d ago

Sorry mate - but you are obviously extremely confused.

What you can do to improve the performance of a video card on a PC has absolutely no relevance to the design of a game engine, which is a very different thing altogether - though I can see how you could be confused if your not working this stuff for a living.

If you are actually interested in the tech of this game engine and wish to check that all textures use 24 bit colour depth check out this paper which will take you through some of the simpler engine features:
http://www.guerrilla-games....

You can find confirmation that the textures are 24 bit clour on page 18 if thats all you looking for.

The look of the game is very obviously an artistic direction, and whilst its obviously not an overly saturated game, I would not say its overtly grey? Certainly, its more colourful than the GOW 2 graphics, where characters are almost monochromatic! My personnel art direction is usually more colourful, but people equate a more subdued palette with 'realism' and 'grittiness' and it does allow you to make more of an impact with spot effects and dramatic lightening for increased drama - so its a look many lead artists tend to cultivate.

Nadine Coyle6243d ago

wasnt everybody havin a go at gears of war graphics calling it greys of war. and as soon as it steps into the playstation it is fine.
stupidness of fanboys

BulletToothtony6243d ago (Edited 6243d ago )

Is it the only thing that people can come up with???

It's war... why do people want greens and pinks and purples it's beyond me...

Have any of you watch Saving Private Ryan??? it was dark and very gray..

If you want color go play Uncharted or Halo?? can you imagine playing killzone in an uncharted atmosphere it would destroy the game.... the devs chose this type of atmosphere and i love it that way!!

Plus it's another planet, and i would think that a good uniform to blend in it should be gray too.. they could've made a bright green uniform but then that wouldn't be much of a camouflage would've??

Please people, stop being idiots.. that is the style of the game and it looks awesome..

And to the idea of adding color consumes more memory it's just extremely stupid.. Uncharted already proved that you can add as much color and the game will run flawlessly, no install times and no loading times so bring your fanboyism somewhere else..

The game looks the best of any console ever, deal with it!!!

cLiCK_sLiCK96243d ago

I Personally like the grey. I Didnt conplain about it on Gears of War and wont conplain about on Killzone 2..
At least its not going to look like Halo 3's rainbow colors....(seriously..how did that game get an 'M' rating) /sarcasm

beavis4play6243d ago

i came 9 hrs. after your posts, but i have read them.i will put this as bluntly as i can. you are one of the biggest idiots i have ever come across. the art direction is spot on for a war game. and gears art direction is just as good. if you've played the first game you'd know that the planet the helghan people were stuck on was a hostile, barren, dreary place.GG is staying consistant with the storyline. haze, on the other hand, is set in a tropical location. so there is more color. it's sad to me that there are people like you who are so lacking in logic and intelligence that simple concepts seem over your head. sorry to be so forward, but your comments were so outlandish that i couldn't help myself. do yourself a favor and watch the opening scene from KZ1 and you'll see the harshness of the planet helghan. why do you think the helghast have to wear respirators?! don't comment on things you know nothing about.

ryuyasho6243d ago

don't remeber anyone complaing about "Saving Private Ryan" and "Band of Brothers" color style. The Gray is a symbolism that represents critical times, and this game IS very critical, hehehehe. Simply beautyful...

It seems like at this moment Killzone II is graphically unique compared to its rivals and will be indeed hard to beat in terms of graphics. I am very much looking forward to this game.

shelbygt336243d ago

I hope there is a demo.

I wonder if this game will be able to pull me away from CoD4. So far, nothing has yet.

jkhan6244d ago (Edited 6244d ago )

The game looks phenomenal, I had my concerns when I saw the initial videos of Sony Gamers Day 2008, I thought it looked a little too gray, but after watching the HD footage, I have to say the game looks amazing. It is THE best looking game on consoles.

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

Hugely disappointingly, it seems that Guerrilla Games, developers of the Killzone and Horizon series, may be done with Killzone for good.

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX234d ago (Edited 234d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne234d ago (Edited 234d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro234d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken234d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown234d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72234d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken234d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya233d ago

Yeah, a remake would be pretty awesome

anast234d ago

They should let it go or sell it. No use spending millions on this project.

LucasRuinedChildhood234d ago

Would like a new IP before Horizon 3. Just because games take so long to make these days.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

OtterX463d ago (Edited 463d ago )

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro463d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72463d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_463d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga463d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos463d ago (Edited 463d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23463d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball2000463d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin463d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole463d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix463d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel1989463d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor463d ago (Edited 463d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

463d ago
Michiel1989463d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor767d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar767d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg767d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149767d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138767d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim767d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC767d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138767d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle767d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76767d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM767d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730767d ago (Edited 767d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger767d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca767d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy767d ago (Edited 767d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

lukasmain767d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright767d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
