Fate Cast News: Ding Dong the Wii U Is Dead & GTA V PC Version All but Confirmed

The week that ended on January 18, 2014 was pretty slow, unfortunately. We saw a new Dark Souls II trailer, which I have attached to this post, and GTA V is pretty much all but announced for the PC. The biggest story of the week is easily the fact that Nintendo/NPD announced that the Wii U has been a colossal and absolute financial failure. Tune in to find more, and before you comment, no, I don’t hate Nintendo.

Equating WiiU with the wicked witch of the west?

really?

Why not cheer the bad news for Nintendo?... they've only made the gaming market what it is today and have actually made contributions to the industry.

Everything else has already been done by PC.

WiiU has already made more money than Ps360 combined. That's a fact.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

I'm not a fanboy, but sometimes I play one on the internet...

lashes2ashes4177d ago

The wii u has made more of a profit than ps3, 360. Source please.

vishmarx4177d ago

we need more of these articles.

Don't be Lazy Google it yourself =]

mohuzas4177d ago

PS3 and 360 still haven't regained all the profits they lost.
WiiU still isn't profitable yet due to it being sold at a small loss, but it's still lost less money than the PS360 when those released 7 yrs ago

erathaol4177d ago

I only wish we could wait till the story of Nintendo is written before we say they're dead. We have a whole year to see if they can change course.

Sony and MS lost billions. Do your own research

Someone should let you in on a little secret, Ben...were in the 8th generation of game consoles, now. While the PS3 and 360 are very much still relevant...main focus has shifted to the PS4 and XBox One. And even tho the Wii U outsold the PS3 and 360, it was downright MURDERED by the PS4, with the XBox One not very far behind. In fact, the PS4 has already made more in profits than the Wii U has made in lifetime sales.

So um...put THAT in your pipe and smoke it. LOL.

And just because Nintendo made the gaming market what it is today, doesnt mean we should all be bowing down and kissing their asses. Even Nintendo is capable of losing their way, at times.

And THIS is one of those times...

seraphym884177d ago

In fact, the PS4 has already made more in profits than the Wii U has made in lifetime sales.

No possible way of knowing this, i checked. Sony sells ps4 at $60 loss.
http://www.gamingunion.net/...

Vgchartz says WiiU is at 19mil software, and ps4 at 9mil. As we all (should) know, these companies make the money off the games, therefore, i think your wrong.

light694177d ago

LMAO "murdered"? neither the ps4 nor xbox1 reached the sale of the Wii U at launch nor in that very same week. Why do I say this? Because apparently everyone was saying this same very thing, that by the end of the week ps4 and xbox1 sales would overtake Wii U in that time. Truth be told I only started seeing articles of the sales figures in late december. "Murdered" hahahahaahahhahaha get the fuck out you troll

Shad0wRunner4177d ago (Edited 4177d ago )

Seraph And Light...

A few weeks ago, or back in December N4G had an article showing the accumulated sales figures across all 3 platforms: Wii U, PS4 and XBox One...as well as the 3DS, Vita, PS3 and 360. I cant find the article, but it was right here on N4G. Maybe someone who knows what Im talking about, can link it for everyone to see.

That chart, showed the PS4 leading in sales over the Wii U, XBox One, PS3 and 360. It showed the Wii U leading over the XBox One by a slight few. It showed the 3DS beat the Vita in sales.

But yes, PS4 has now made more money than the Wii U in lifetime sales.

Idk...maybe THIS was it:
http://n4g.com/news/1433232...

Either way, PS4 MURDERED the Wii U in hardware sales. FACT!

EDIT: I never said PS4 beat Wii U in sales during it's launch week. This was during the first 2-3 months POST launch. Does it matter? Seriously? The point is, it smashed on the Wii U. Period.

"I'm not a fanboy"

Yes you are and I can prove it.

"Why not cheer the bad news for Nintendo?... they've only made the gaming market what it is today and have actually made contributions to the industry.

Everything else has already been done by PC. "

Here's my problem with your comment. You claim that Nintendo made contributions to the gaming industry. I agree with you completely on that. But then you said this.

"Everything else has already been done by PC. "

So your saying that company's like Sony and Microsoft didn't do anything to contribute to this industry? Yes they did and I can prove it to you. Microsoft's biggest contribution in my opinion is Xbox Live. Without Microsoft setting a standard in online gaming we would never have such a good online network like PSN. And as for Sony I think their biggest contribution is PlayStation plus. Without playstation plus Microsoft would have never improved their network with games with gold.

JDW4177d ago

Xbox Live and PSN are heavily influenced by various programs on the PC.

In terms of their contributions, both Microsoft and Sony have simply tried to fit all the media capabilities of a PC into a closed console format. They have done a good job of this...but it's not exactly an original idea.

I remember playing online games with my Dreamcast which came before Xbox Live and PSN.

seraphym884177d ago

'So your saying that company's like Sony and Microsoft didn't do anything to contribute to this industry? Yes they did and I can prove it to you. I believe thats is his point....all were things done on pc......not inovation...just puting 2 products together. Sony is a turle-shell company anyways.. thus the reason all they have done is add cd players/dvd players and such. The Nintendo 64 went online....a whole generation before 'xbox did it'.

MasterCornholio4177d ago

Right so Nintendo is the only company that contributed something to gaming. That's something a Nintendo fanboy would say. All three have done their part in gaming. Thats just something Nintendo fans have to live.

Remember its absolutely false the belief that Nintendo invented everything and every other firm in the market copied them.

pumpactionpimp4176d ago

Making a new flavor of chocolate is not the same as inventing chocolate. Xbox live is fluid and works well. But long before anything like it was steam, and before that were various bits of it, such as voice clients, etc.

Benjaminkno4176d ago (Edited 4176d ago )

I'm still waiting to hear Microsoft or Sony's contribution to the gaming industry.

You could have said Kinect, or Vita, or any slew of ideas that they've come up with, and all I've heard is an online connection/store. I would've thought a particular "game" would be mentioned, but almost all "first" party studios for MS and Sony were bought out. Let's not mention all of the studios that Sony has put out of business.

There's plenty of reasons why I don't like WiiU, but if you think that cheering for the death of "any" console for political reasons is justified because "you don't like Nintendo" you aren't a gamer.

You're an ignorant "too poor to play PC" hack....

I have a Ps4, but right now it's useless.

Ding Dong the Wii U is not dead.

Razjin4177d ago

idk why ppl act like Nintendo saved the gaming industry it just expanded on what was already there nothing more.

seraphym884177d ago

Nintendo saved gaming in the western world. In america, the gaming industry was in shambles, and no company would touch it. It is unmistakeably true that is Nintendo did not make a BOLD move to the west, gaming would not be the same today.

Razjin4177d ago

come on listen to what you said and think about how america works. If Nintendo didn't do anything there would just be another person down the road to do it. gaming could never die as long as the pc that were made to make the games still runs. Plus the fact the us likes to dominate the market so if that market was reaching out to millions of kids you sure that the us market will continue to hunger for it. Just because you can't see or hear something doesn't mean it wasn't there or happening. fact is nintendo was making game systems before the crash and before that they were just making playing cards and try to dominate the us market here but it doesn't take a smart person to know that there was a good market in the us at that time when the economy was good. so what does a company do at a opportune moment like the NA video game crash....they sell because they have no competition and it was an easy market for them to dominate. in a sense nintendo didn't save anything...all the try to do was make as much money as possible like any other company.

Wii U is dead, nintendo needs to think about the future now

Lboogieskells4177d ago (Edited 4177d ago )

Nintendo makes the most dumb decisions. Why release Pokemon on 3ds without plans for Pokemon stadium on the wiiU? This alone would have boosted sales considerably. Just look up how well the 3ds sold when Pokemon released. (No brainer)

If they are so concerned about not rushing and making quality games. They should have waited to release the console when the 1st party development library started looking healthy. Last gen people accepted wii although it was the weaker console in comparison. The reason being is that there were lots of first party games to play.

Truth be told, whether or not the fan boys like to admit it, Nintendo saw an opportunity to come out with the first next gen console in years and rushed the release.

Even if it's "more realistic" I think the standard looks better. Not in every situation but the standard likely runs better so I'll side with that more than likely.

Crazy. Switch 2 is going to do very well.

darthv7219d ago (Edited 19d ago )

No doubt, but.... the current price is out of the realm of the average parent / kid to buy like the SW1 was. So this launch achievement is from those of us with more disposable income.

The number of SW2 specific titles pales in comparison to the variety of SW1 games that get a performance boost right out of the box on this. And like the SX and PS5 before it, you can bet the majority are going to be using it as a means to better enjoy their existing titles that can benefit.

This may have been quick out of the gate... so was the WiiU. I quite enjoy it for what it is, but am keeping my expectations in check.

GenoPurpel19d ago (Edited 18d ago )

The Switch 2’s price point is great and fine and it’s still cheaper than the current gen of consoles aside from the Series S.

The only place I think they will fall short is their software sales, which also in turn may affect the hardware sales but not significantly. Parents will be fine paying for the system for their kids, but one look at an $80-$90 price tag for a single video game, that is where a lot of people will draw the line. Maybe not so much the people who are in the “willing to pay because I buy deluxe editions anyway” crowd, but for parents specifically, more sacrifices are gonna need to be made in their choices of gifts for their kids.

OtterX18d ago

As a parent of 3 with a very modest income, it was very affordable bc I already had an immense library of games, and the Mario Kart bundle came out to only about €50 more than a standard bundle. Both Zeldas were upgraded w Family Expansion Pass that I already had. Many games were upgraded for free. The only additional game I bought was Fast Fusion for 14.99 which was a great purchase!

Killer2020UK18d ago

People seem to forget that the Switch was $299 at launch which in today's money is roughly $400. That makes the Switch 2 a $50 increase when inflation is taken into account compared to the original.

Yes, people have less spending power on average compared to 2017 (Switch launch year) but this is not the MASSIVE price hike that people are making out Nintendo to be doing.

raWfodog18d ago

“No doubt, but.... the current price is out of the realm of the average parent / kid to buy like the SW1 was. So this launch achievement is from those of us with more disposable income.”

It could also be many people rushing to buy to avoid any possible tariff hikes in the future, but I think it’s still a good sign that many people still want physical consoles. Congrats to Nintendo! I’m not getting one at this time though (unless I get it for a Xmas present for one of my kids).

Congratulations Nintendo on finding the happy medium between their weak console and their invincible handheld plus learning from Sony and clearly defining the new console from the old unlike their Wii and Wii U just add a higher number simple yet effective 👍👍

victorMaje19d ago

Are people that keen on $90 games?
Is it true some remasters will also be $90?

DankSinatra19d ago

Tell me you don't research without telling me you don't research.

victorMaje18d ago

Nope. I didn’t research, I don’t own any Nintendo consoles and I had read on here something about $90 games on switch 2, so I guess it’s good now, people can calm down. Have a nice day :)

1nsomniac19d ago

I bought the Switch 2 I won’t be buying games at MK prices. I don’t ever pay over £45 for my games. Even my Nintendo switch exclusives I never paid more than £33 for.

franwex18d ago

I think the typo you put was meant to be $80.
Anyway, the answer to those questions seem to be yes.

victorMaje18d ago

Looks like I’ve been enlightened about the amount. Happy to see it’s not $90.

Sgt_Slaughter17d ago

Don't get your news from clickbait TikTokers/YouTubers, only go to the source (Nintendo) or reliable new outlets like IGN.

No game is $90 on the Switch 2, and they will never go there. Most games will be under $80, too.

cool
wasnt expecting it not to sell well

Profchaos19d ago

Its crazy that it's both the highest selling console on day 1 and people can walk into a store and buy it with no pre order

Ashunderfire8619d ago

Yup while I was waiting in line from Best Buy for Switch 2, like I did for Switch 1 back in 2017, every waiting 12am was going to get a Switch 2! I was in the no preorder line too!

My friend manage to get 4 Switch 2s at his GameStop store, that was lowkey not busy at all. Got them all for himself and his family. Super easy to get a Switch 2 over PS5.

Profchaos19d ago

The struggle to get a ps5 was real had mates wait over 2 years for stock i got lucky and got it day 1 but still

Ashunderfire8618d ago

I know and I also struggled getting a preorder for the PS5, when Walmart, Best Buy among other retailers open their preorders a day early before most of us realize it. I got my PS5 launch day thanks to YouTube Live Streamer Jake Randell. He helps people get preorders and launch consoles.

Neonridr18d ago

the PS5 also released during a global pandemic.

Ashunderfire8618d ago

It’s funny how I got disagrees for speaking the truth for what I experienced getting the Switch 2. Nintendo had more copies of Switch 2 than Sony for the PS5.

Don’t be butthurt about this very fact. People on here disagreeing with crazy reasons lol

hiawa2319d ago

Doesn't that mean Nintendo made sure they had plenty of stock available at retail.

Profchaos19d ago

Yeah it's nice to see they prepped for it

adamwparker19d ago

Yeah, I remember reading an article over two years ago with Nintendo stating that they were going to do all that they could to make sure their next console didn't have the PS5/XBox reseller swiping /no stock fiasco happen to them.

Looks like they made sure production met demand. Refreshing to see that the reseller thing didn't trend and I hope a lot of people who bought multiple units for the sole reason to resell then at $1000 are now stuck with them.

jznrpg18d ago

It also means there isn’t a chip shortage when PS5/Xbox came out during pandemic

gold_drake19d ago

to be where fair, we had a current gen come out during covid ha

repsahj18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

I remembered I tried 7 pre-order events during the PS5 launch. I gave up and ended up buying 1 from a scalper. But now, I already secured 1 pre-order Switch 2 unit in my country very easy and without problems.

Neonridr18d ago

kudos to Nintendo for ensuring a healthy amount of stock.
