Console Monster writes: "There is no escaping the pure addictiveretro classic fun to be had with the title that is "Geometry Wars" in any of its guises, or is there? I am the first to confess that I actually purchased an Xbox 360 with the tiny gem of an Arcade Live title "Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved"being a major factor in my decision. I have since marvelled at the game’s success both in terms of its longevity and following with youTube and googlevideo posts showing off ever increasing high scores spiralling out of control into the millions.

With such success it is has been an automatic choice for spin-off variationsand platform ports, with versions for mobile phone, web/java adaptations and Nintendo DS popping up. For those of you not familiar with "Geo wars" it features a top down view of a spacecraft, shooting enemies in all directions in a relatively static playing area, an ever amount of increasing wave upon wave of enemies, illustrated inauthentic retro quality graphics.

As a fan myself I would say the game lends its success to some fundamental core gaming elements; simple pickup ‘n’ play game play with adrenaline rewarding action if you persevere into the harder stages. The pure simplicity and quick reactions required makes this an instant hit but the online hi-score leaderboard made this one of the most competitive arcade games around; there is definitely a hardcore gamer ‘cool’ tag attached to a Geo wars high score. You could play a few minutes each day or indeed hours in just one session if you make it into the million points tally…"
