Producer Dave Cox says Mercury Steam's unannounced game is unrelated to the Castlevania series; won't be released on Nintendo's latest console.

Wii U future is going to be real grim without much support from 3rd party studios..There's going be tons of droughts because there's no way Nintendo can pump out exclusive titles every month.

wonderfulmonkeyman4178d ago (Edited 4178d ago )

AAA third parties might skip them, but that doesn't mean smaller studios can't make up for that lack.
The Wii u will still get plenty of great games over time, games worth playing, with or without AAA third party studios like mercury steam or EA.
Its shocking to me that so many people act like AAA third party games are the only good ones these days, that lacking them is somehow a surefire way to bankrupt, when that's just not the case.
The industry has lots of great games outside of AAA studios.

Rainstorm814178d ago (Edited 4178d ago )

Mercurysteam is Triple A?

On topic
Triple A third party games draw in core casual crowds, who primarily buy these consoles for those games...BF, CoD, etc...

Yes great games are made by many different 3rd party devs.....but those games most likely will also appear on competing hardware

Nintendos biggest draw is 1st party content, almost to a fault, not very many 3rd party games compete....if any

"Triple A third party games draw in core casual crowds, who primarily buy these consoles for those games...BF, CoD, etc... "

Triple A = budget related. Not how shiny your phong shader is.

stuna14178d ago

I don't know, but it seems to me like the 3rd party developers themselves want this to be a two-man console race! It seems to me like 2 years is more than enough time to have some big name title coming at a consistent pace for the WII U. I say 2 years because developers knew 1 1/2 to 2 years in advance of release to start lining up projects.

The bad thing is I see this getting worse! Anyone not seeing how dire this situation is looking, need only look at the PS4/Xbox1 sales figures and projections. At the pace the PS4 is selling, it is set to overtake the worldwide lifetime sales of the WII U within a months time, with the Xbox1 to follow soon after. Does that look good to anyone!? This will spook anyone who have plans to develop projects specifically for the WII U, anyone believing otherwise, stop fooling yourselves, face reality! This is not good for the WII U. no matter how much you may want it to succeed.

wonderfulmonkeyman4178d ago

Launch wave hype isn't an accurate scale to predict continuing sales of of, though. Look at the 3DS.

stuna14178d ago

Whatever you call it, it doesn't change the fact that the PS4/Xbox1 are doing what it took the WII U 1 year and 6 weeks to do! Not only that they are doing it while competing against each other and the WII U! The truth of the matter, the WII U had no next gen competitors plus it was cheaper, now it's even cheaper than both next gen consoles with more games to boot. The most damning of all these facts is...... PS4/Xbox1 will outsell it 1/6th of time it took the WII U to reach it's worldwide lifetime sales.

wonderfulmonkeyman4178d ago (Edited 4178d ago )

To say that being outsold is damning, without looking at profits made for the companies by these sales, is inaccurate at best.
The Wii whipped the ever-living crap out of the ps3 and 360 in sales, but did that make them doomed?
No. No, it did not.

Nor will it make the wii u doomed when it is outsold.
It will still get great games, it will still increase in sales and profits (in fact it already is), and the sales of the other two won't make a damn but of difference to that, especially considering that the wii u is still quite young.
You 're making this out to be a way bigger issue than it actually is, and you're downplaying the fact that launch sales don't traditionally stay consistent.

stuna14178d ago

The "Denial" is so thick in here, it can be cut with a knife! The point's I put in my comment aren't open for debate, they are fact, and are unfolding in this very instant! The fact that Nintendo had posted actual loses not once but twice last year, is a testament that all is not "Peaches & Cream" in La La Land. The fact that they had to consolidate their R&D department is yet another clue, but the finger in the ears attitudes persist! The fact that anyone could think that the lack of consistant 3rd party support is not harmful, basically proves my case as far as denial being strong in here, but I guess someone has to keep hope alive.

MsmackyM4178d ago

I will 100% agree with you in that the 3rd parties are making a conscious effort to exclude the WiiU. Greedy publishers have gotten used to the money hatting that started with the Xbox and was adopted by the PlayStation. Nintendo first party content is too strong to be bullied by third party publishers and the publishers know it. EA has been going out of its way sabotage the WiiU since launch, but was caught with egg on it's face after the Xbox had to backdown on DRM and they released broken and crap games. Third parties are banking on the fact that Sony and MS first party studios aren't strong enough to support their consoles so they have more leverage when it comes to manipulation.

Sony is trying very hard to get out of the trap that MS setup with the money hatting, that's why you have the online pay wall, and the heavy first party focus coming from Sony. Sony even built a console any developer could love so you would'nt have every talent less developer crying how hard it is to develop for the console.

Rainstorm814178d ago (Edited 4178d ago )

Stuna1 Well Said +bubs

I agree with everything you said msmacky except this "Third parties are banking on the fact that Sony and MS first party studios aren't strong enough to support their consoles so they have more leverage when it comes to manipulation. "

Not many third party games are stronger sales wise or quality wise to Sony or MS exclusives....Only a handful of games have that advantage CoD, BF starting with 3, AC, GTA and Fifa..... every other franchise will fall to the wayside to exclusives

Happened with PS3 and 360 and the trend will continue...On Nintendo consoles none of these games are top tier games, mainly because of the Wii's power and network and the Wii-U small market share thus far....not to mention, mostly peoply buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games

PS3 - http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...

X360 - http://www.vgchartz.com/gam...

the 360s number one game is shocking to say the least....it sold more than Halo 3 & 4 combined

The only games third party publishers actually sale are; COD Series, BF4 series, GTA, AC, Fallout and Elder Scrolls. I may have missed a couple but not much. All other "AAA" games either bankrupts are nearly bankrupts the company that makes them, because of the combined 160,000,000 PS3/360 owners worldwide not even 5% of them buy the games. That being said, the only franchise Konami has that actually makes money is the Metal Gear Series. They can hype up games all day long and exclude whatever platform they wish, but at the end of the day if the game doesn't sell and they closed themselves of from an entire market who is really hurt? It's definitely not Nintendo.

lilbroRx4178d ago

Going by these comments, no one even cares about this game.

Their sole interest is in making an issue about it not coming to the Wii U.

starfox0794178d ago

Every game so far that isn't coming to wiiu is good news they are crap niche games wiiu will be for quality over quantity.....

Too bad considering Castlevania was on pretty much every console Nintendo ever made. I wouldn't say that Nintendo missing this particular title bodes ill, but it does glaringly show that 3rd party devs are at odds with Ninty at the moment.

LOL_WUT4178d ago

What about when Nintendo was monopolizing the gaming industry? See it all comes back to you one way or the other. These devs know that their games will find a bigger success on powerful and better hardware not on a niche console like the WiiU ;)

Ol_G4178d ago

Yeah please go learn your gaming history before posting uninformed biased bs

MsmackyM4178d ago

You mean how EA just tried to DRM to death the Xbox One or how third party publishers like to release broken games that need a month or more of patches after release in order to work as advertised. Need I go on?

Concertoine4178d ago (Edited 4178d ago )

What's this, nintendo's failing competitors from the 80's spreading bad news about them? Surely this guy with his no-name irrelevant company wouldn't spread lies to make the only successful competition at the time look bad? Let's look at the company's games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
Solitaire, Wally Bear and the NO! Gang, Puzzle, Pyramid, Blackjack... maybe if the company wasn't heaping shovelware onto the console nintendo would want them representative of the NES. Like capcom, square, activision, all the other companies that actually put effort into their games.
You would watch blackb0nd, lol. Don't get me wrong, he makes some fair points, but that's when he's not insulting people because they collect nintendo memorabilia or pointing out technical flaws on games that won't be out for at least another year >_>

Why are you even comparing past Nintendo policies and staff with today?

The history of MercuryStream's development of Metroidvania games up to Metroid Dread.

"In a sea of games inspired by Metroid and Castlevania, only one company has ever worked on both series proper."

OH SNAP! color me excited! Honestly think mercurysteam has some major talent, and i'm glad to finally see them get a chance at another big title since lords of shadow.

jznrpg1295d ago

Interested because it’s an rpg but with no info at all who knows . Dread was pretty good but it’s a side scroller and totally different from a 3D action rpg game .

Kinda bad on the company to not recognize everyone who was involved with the development. Look at some movies credits. Sometimes they credit the dogs of the workers. Zero excuse here.

LordoftheCritics1342d ago

Absolutely. Every input is still input.

isarai1343d ago

Well that's BS, dont see why, it's just text.

Kaii1343d ago

Imagine throwing 80-hour workweeks or more on these projects & these assholes pull this, disgusting trash.
End credits aside, I truly appreciate everyone's contributed efforts on game development.

LordoftheCritics1342d ago

I'm sorry sir but you only worked 364 days.

boing11342d ago

Well, I worked for a company which didn't put me in the credits because I left 2 months before release, after almost 3 years of work. Date was moved three times and I was sooo sick of it that I said 'I'm not doing this anymore' and quit.

MaximusTKG1342d ago

That sounds more like your fault than anything. Are they supposed to feel bad for you because you quit because you couldn’t do it anymore? You were sick of it. Were they paying you to do a job? Then you just quit? Did you give a notice or just walk out? Likely the latter, and likely the reason you aren’t on some credit reel nobody looks at. Hang on, I need to unpack my tiny violin.

boing11342d ago (Edited 1342d ago )

Wow, you're assuming a lot. I didn't say I'm sad because of it. I knew I won't be in the credits because that was and probably still is company policy. I wasn't the only one who wasn't in the credits because of this. I would question the fairness of the policy itself, though. Especially after such a long time. Notice was given and we came apart just fine, without any bad blood. The stories I've heard after I left, though? They only re-assured me it was a good decision.

LoveSpuds1342d ago

I am just glad I don't live in the US, your workers rights are utterly atrocious. I guess people like Maximus help that lack of rights continue.

monkey6021342d ago

I've never said this before, because it's typically a meaningless statistic but I'm glad the disagrees are stacking up for your opinion on this. A take like that deserves to be ignored

dudeOplenty1342d ago

@MaximusTKG - Who hurt you to make you this kind of person? I’m sorry for whatever they did to you.
