In American Hustle, David O. Russell’s takes two current audience fascinations and combines them. One of those fascinations is retro and the other is Jennifer Lawrence. The story revolves around con artists, which is a topic that has always entertained. The result is that even though Russell’s attempt to cater to current tastes is better than your average movie, we’ve seen almost everything he has to offer here in better films.
