GTA San Andreas is now out for Android, but heavy handed DRM is making it impossible to play

Five years ago, Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas, a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.

Looks like WarDrum just rush the Android release or simply ported the iOS version and attach a nasty DRM to it.

KonsoruMasuta4178d ago

Yeah, one of the few times I actually pay for a game and it tells me I can't download it because it's unsure I made the purchase.

I want my 7 bucks back, Rockstar!

Bob Dole4178d ago

Couldn't imagine playing this game without a controller much less on a tiny little screen. DRM sucks too.

When we launched our last game we saw a 96% piracy rate in the first 2 weeks. Despite having a free version of the game available, thousands instead choose to simply pirate the full version. From what I've heard from other developers, this isn't uncommon on Android. I know a few developers that won't even bother with Android unless we're talking a game designed around micro-transactions and ads.

In that kind of environment is it any wonder they're putting in strict DRM? I'm surprised they're even bothering with Android. Google needs to get a handle on that mess. We saw less than a 3% piracy rate on iOS for Vex Blocks by comparison. I know that's anecdotal evidence, but you hear it so often from mobile devs.

Google needs to not do anything about it. It is a open source platform and it better stay that way. If we lose games oh well buy a proper game machine like a 3ds or even a vita. Phones games are usually gimmick trash, things to pass time, or would better on a handheld or console. All the android platform needs when it comes to games are good ol emulators which now run any handheld up to the ds (psp is getting better) and console up to the n64, and addictive puzzle/social games. I know hardly anyone willing to pay more than $5 for a game.

IMO DRM would not fix the problem and would only turn people away lowering sales and making people want to pirate even more. I know I download apks all the time to get older software and software banned from store. If I lost that feature I might as well buy a Iphone.

Then please do. Please stop undermining Android developers by stealing. We have families to feed and every single time you steal one of our games you're making our shrinking our potential market. What on earth gives you the goddamn right to pilfer my hard work, or the hard work of those on my team? You don't think we're due some sort of compensation when you enjoy a year's worth of our hard work?

Like I said, and people wonder why so many developers won't touch Android...

Anon19744176d ago

I hope one day you create something to feed your family and put a rough over their head, something you're proud of and criminals take it from you and sabotage your livelihood.

I have no polite words for how much I despise you people, or what you've done to the industry.

LAWSON724176d ago

You to need to properly take advantage of what you have and there is a whole other platform that is as closed as you need it so DONT MAKE YOUR APPS FOR ANDROID IF YOU KNOW WHAT HAS AND CAN HAPPEN TO APPICATIONS. That is why you take advantage of ad support, memberships, and microtransactions. If your app is worth it consumers are willing to deal with all of these. Just like everyone else with a product you need to understand the market if you want a product to sell. Dont blame Google or consumers blame yourself's for the failure you have had. It is a open platform and you know exactly what that means, at least you should if you are an app developer.

jairusmonillas4178d ago

Android is better than iOS in my opinion but if they continue to ignore piracy they would regret it later on when devs finally put a stop on trying to port paid apps to android.

I don't like paying for over priced gas but you don't see me stealing it.

Did they really skip Shadow of the Colossus? I would definitely swap Dark Cloud for that.

Killzone 1
Black
FF12
GT4
Jak 3
SSX
MGS2
God of war 2

Too much greatness on this console.

Venoxn4g136d ago

I could argue that MGS3 looks even better than MGS2

Cacabunga136d ago

Veno

It does, but MGS2 tanker presentation was ahead of everything we could imagine.

phatak137d ago

god of war 2 looked better than most of the launch games, just like last of us 1 ,kz2 and god of war 3 looking better than a bunch of launch ps4 games, and kz2 for reason looks just as good in 2024, that game had some black magic

Cacabunga137d ago

Agreed. I sometimes watch multiplayer videos of it. Best FPS i have ever played. It’s the game that initiated me to the genre. It has a special place in my all time favorite top3

Those games were pretty mid. In fact, I'm surprised they even put The Getaway: Black Monday. But they left out much better games like Way of the Samurai 1-2, Okami, Jak 2 or 3, Final Fantasy 12, Yakuza 1-2, or SSX 3.
