Minecraft Hits PS3 December 17th in North America

Season’s greetings! Owen from Mojang here. I have some exciting news that you might be interested in. It’s about Minecraft – a game that’s sold over 30 million copies to date. Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, you’ll probably build simple structures to protect against nocturnal monsters. Later on, you might work with your friends to create wonderful, imaginative things.

Besides, if someone really wanted to play minecraft before now, they'd have done so already.

All I'm saying is that I'm surprised people are hyped for something so old that exists pretty much everywhere else.

It's like getting hyped to play Super Mario Bros. (the original one) on the Wii U.

Believe it or not, not everyone plays games as soon as they come out. Case in point, I have not played GTA5, Last of Us, and many other popular games that I have every intention of playing one day. There are just not enough hours in the day for a father with a wife, kids, full-time job, and school to sit around playing video games all day anymore.

Granted, I'm in a very small minority of gamers who don't play games as soon as they come out but we're out there. Just because the news is not important to you doesn't mean it's not newsworthy for anyone else.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I don't mean to sound insulting or insensitive, but that's an overused excuse. It can easily be said that there isn't the time to play any game at all using that excuse. It isn't about playing video games all day, no one does that, it's about a really old game that's available literally everywhere else.

The chances of someone NOT being able to play minecraft until it comes out for the PS3 is infinitesimal. Not non-existent, but incredibly small.

Nah, why would I take your comment the wrong way? It's a perfectly valid argument. But even if it's an 'overused' excuse, it doesn't make it an invalid one. Someone with a more hectic schedule than mine will definitely not have time to sit and play video games at all. Thankfully, I'm not that swamped.

But I definitely can't sit around playing video games all day like I used to. And I think you're mistaken about the reason someone might not have played the game until now. Maybe it's not that people have 'waited' to play the game on PS3 but now that it is an option it might appeal to those who only game on the PS3 (not me).

My reply to your original comment was in no way an attack, just a reply to your questions "People care about this? Why would you wait years to play it on the PS3 when you could have been playing it pretty much everywhere else?" I gave a simple reason why and never said that you shouldn't have answered the question.

I'm interested in Minecraft depending on the price and/or if it has the cross-buy,cross-save,cross-pla y. I have never played it before on any device. I may also just wait for the PS4 version though.

Believe it or not, there are a lot of people that only play games on consoles. There are a lot of people that don't play games at all on PC, or do so very sparingly...such as myself. There are people that only own PS3. There are people that haven't played minecraft, but may have heard good things about it. There are people that haven't heard of Minecraft at all.

I've played minecraft twice in my life. Once on a school PC, and once on a friends PC. It was cool, and seemed worth getting since the entry price is low. But as I said, I don't really game on PC. You probably are aware that I don't own a 360. So yes, I care about this so I can play it on my PS3. However, I will probably wait until the PS4 version, since I still have a tremendous backlog to get through.

Can someone tell me which version each console gets? Like the PS4 having the 360 version while X1 gets PC version.
