The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Review | BlisteredThumbs

Are all Legend of Zelda games the same? That seems to be the burning question people ask every time a new Zelda title is announced. Unlike the much maligned Call of Duty series, what separates Zelda from other franchises is how it uses new mechanics to its advantage, creating an epic adventure tale that is unique from every other game in the series.

I'm about to get this game for my newly bought 3DS XL. But based off of the reviews I've read, it appears that this is another "safe" installment from Nintendo

Depends what you mean be "safe."

If you mean it meets the high standard of quality Nintendo has for its flagship titles, it certainly does.

If you mean it's a product of the conservative game design that Nintendo has relied on for the past decade or so, you're also right--but only to a degree. ALBW is basically the Zelda version of Mario Galaxy--it doesn't really change up the core design of the game much, but refines the mechanics of play to an incredible degree and introduces a number of subtle changes that dramatically improve the overall experience.

If you mean it's safe to buy full price without worrying about being stuck with a stinker, you're right on that too.

Relatively speaking, it is not a "safe" entry in the series. On top of using an old overworld which in itself is susceptible to critics, they introduce a major new design element that significantly impacts the basic overall game progression.

They introduce a wall-walking which is definitely a big new feature. And they have obviously taken a new approach with a few of the standard designs of Zelda games, including pacing and items. It is taking risks, no doubt.

The Nintendo 3DS' The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is now 10 years old, yet remains a remarkable experience.

Calling this classic feels so weird to me. It's still the newest game in the old style... hope they make another one.

I would love a remake of Link to the Past, one in a similar vain to Link's Awakening.

it was an awesome game and utilized the 3D very well on the 3DS. A Link to the Past is one of my favorite Zelda games, so this one being a true sequel to that title really hit home with me.

I bought this very long ago, and it’s still in my backlog!
