Nintendo Should Not Squander Their VGX Opportunity By Showing Donkey Kong

Hardcore Gamer: With the VGX awards just around the corner many already know what to expect and what not to expect come tomorrow evening. While that’s obviously not all that will come out of the awards show, one person set to appear has been conspicuously tight lipped about their appearance at the show and just what announcement that entails: Reggie Fils-Aime. This of course has sparked speculation over just what could draw Reggie out of his “swag” filled office.

I know. First of all, Donkey Kong doesn't fit with the show. Don't get me wrong, I love the Country series, but a platform game, especially of this type... I don't like the idea to expose this game along with other games like The Witcher 3, Titanfall, Tomb Raider, etc. This game can be perfectly described in Nintendo Directs. The company must show another thing, like Bayonetta 2, X and the very unlikely Zelda game. Even Super Smash Bros. results to be a better idea than DK.

I hope that Nintendo shows something cool this afternoon :)

We have already a lot of info about Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and DKC:TF. We don't have any trailer, info about Project X, Zelda Wii U, Super Smash Bros. I bet on Super Smash Bros and X

The only reason I would buy a Wii U is if they released a disc that contained all of the sega genesis and snes best sellers.

All the phantasy stars, all of the final fantasies, Dune II Battle for Arakis, etc. etc. etc.....

I'm thinking it will be Super Smash Bros with a couple of character reveals and a release date.

I really wish it was the new Zelda or a new Metroid though. But sadly, I believe they already said that it won't be an unannounced game.

Oh Jesus NO IT WAS NOT CONFIRMED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO...It was mentioned in passing during the Wind Waker HD reveal. That is not confirmed or announced, literally all they said was while we work on a new Zelda for Wii U. Meaning they could still be sitting around spit balling ideas. I swear some Nintendo cult members really want to stretch for things, just like the new OOOOOH Reggie was wearing a metroid pin and said who knows what the future holds, Metroid confirmed...Jesus it doesn't and Zelda for Wii U never was confirmed either

since its only games we've seen before that they are gonna show at the VGX, they should either show X, bayonetta 2, super smash bros., and if they really feel like dropping a massive bomb show off zelda wii u.

Well, recent leaks of Cranky as a 4th playable character, and Reggie showing a "demo"...

I'll be happy if I'm wrong, but I'm expecting that by default just so I won't be TOO disappointed if it's true...

DKC:TC Cranky Cong presentation would be disaster... I would ask my self "Do they really want Wii U to fail?!?"

Cranky being the 4th character is just an assumption. People saw the box art, saw him on the rope and pretty much jumped to "oh, he is the 4th character". There isn't a lot of basis to the rumor and speculation besides we know there is another character and he is there. Don't get me wrong, it's a good theory, but there is a difference between people assuming he is the character off box art and someone leaking a picture of someone playing him or an in game shot showing him in a playable setting.

True enough. I'm just saying, I'm expecting that, because, aside from Yarn Yoshi or the new 3DS Kirby, or going over new details of a game that's already released, it's the least exciting thing they could show.
I'm setting my standards low so that I can't be too let down if it's nothing new...

Expecting to see Smash Bros. but really, DKCR was an awesome game and sold piles so if they do show Tropical Freeze I reckon that's a good move.

There is a time and place for everything and this is neither for DK. The average VGX watcher, is someone in their late teens - mid to late twenties that enjoys more mature games. This is why they show off games like The Last of Us and Metal Gear Solid and why some people claim it would be a stupid move.

The most logical choice is Bayonetta 2. We know it's coming out in 2014 (or planned anyway) and we don't know a whole lot beyond it's longer than the first game, it's currently Wii U exclusive, she has a new look and things will probably be awesome. Not only is a hardcore game that will appeal to the demographic that watches the show, it's certainly the only Nintendo game we know of that matches the Spike demographic (generally low brow shows with a high emphasis on sex, which Bayonetta did a lot of fan service). Also, Bayonetta is new to Nintendo people, but known to Sony / M$ people, so this might also push serious fans to consider the console.

I agree, the show did not deserve any world exclusive premiers or anything, but they could have shown Smash Bros. or something more appropriate to the audience that watches these "awards".

Better not be. Don't get me wrong, I love Donkey Kong, but the Donkey Kong announcement at e3 already disappointed me enough. I was expecting a new Metroid Prime, or something completely different from Retro.

Well, when they asked if Retro had two studios the Retro employee said he couldn't comment on it. Maybe they are making two games at a time? One of them could be a Metroid.
