I know WiFi is pretty fast by now but with such huge amounts of data in online gaming a wireless connection can't guarantee a smooth online experience for you (and your teammates) at all times.

I've experienced this a few times, I just restarted my PS4 I'm safe mode and than rebooted and it solved the issue

I did. I didn't use my ps4 the first two days really because I thought it was broke. Finally found out its the WiFi. Sucked.

I ran multiple cat 6 lines through the walls of my house. All you see is wallplates that you can plug into. All wires hidden and run to the basement to my rack. I can do the same for others but I am not cheap

Who wants to run cables all around the house? I have multiple consoles in different rooms. Wi-fi is the best way to go in my situation.

I've had this once, I just put my PS4 onto the Standby mode and restarted it.

I had this for the first time ever today, called Sony and they were very helpful. Works perfect now.

I never tried my WiFi so I never had this issue. I'll check it tomorrow.

THe steps to follow are ok - but never update a router's firmware if you have to. Updating firmware can lead to other issues, and sometimes there are bugs where you lose your configuration out of the flash.

Wifi is not 100% reliable and from time to time you might lose connection. Reasons being:

A)Duplicate IP possiblle if DHCP lease times are long/or alot of the devices on the local network

B) PSN will kick you off if you do not have sufficient bandwidth i.e. your wifi network is so saturated that the PS4/(or ps3) is only grabbing a small percentage. Try kicking off other users while you game or take device off your wireless when not is use.

C) Network signal range. Alot of people think home wifi range is perfect because their phone on the other end of the house has 5 bars for data. The PS4 and mobile phones gauge data differently i.e. a 1 mpbs connection to a phone might mean full bars, where on the PS4 1mps is only 1 bar since the console itself judges.

D)STOP USING THE MICROWAVE FOR YOUR HOT POCKETS! Seriously, Microwaves do have a "small" tendency to distupt wifi. This depends on microwave vicinity and year.

All of the above steps, are less troublesome and more reliable than opening ports on your router.

Protip: Try taking a wireless laptop and doing speedtest's from where your ps4 is. Try this site - speakeasy.net.

if your speed test on your laptop NEXT to the ps4 is the same - see below.

Now go to where your wireless router is and plug directly into a port from your laptop via an ethernet cord. Test again now

If your speeds are slow even while wired in - then call your ISP and tell them what's up.

If not, disconnect from the wired connection and go back on your wireless network. Speedtest again from right next to the router.

If speeds are much better -

Reposition wireless router (if possible) to a more centralized area or go to your local radioshack/bestbuy and buy a cheap wifi extender or another cheap wireless router (which can act as extender)

If speeds are around the same -

1 - Restart your router.

2 - Check speeds again, if not improved. Go to the administration page for your wireless router. Its usually https://192.168.1.1 or 192.168.100.1 and log in. Take screen shots of each tab, just in case.

Go to the firmware page and have router "phone" home for an update in firmware. Follow directions. Reboot router.

Stil having issues, then go ahead and open ports like listed in the webpage. Only do this as a last resort.

Protip ~7/10 times most wifi problems can be fixed by turning off Wifi Router for more than a 1 minute. Disconnect power supply while doing so, and then powering device back up.

A WiFi Signal is just as fast as a signal sent through a cable! I have never had this issue with my PS4, neither has my roommate our WiFi connection is solid! Now the PS3 yeah it's WiFi would disconnect from time to time. The PS4 has a dedicated WiFi network card which makes it rock.

I have a great connection, all my downloads are super fast.

It's only my PS4 and Xbox One that seem to chug on the wireless.

Move them close (either router or console)

Kick devices off wireless network

Buy a wifi extender and place is strategically in your house.

Same here. I'm not sure why my PS4 is so finicky on the wi-fi when all of my other devices, including my PS3 and Vita, all work without a hitch.

It's good that Sony is trying to help everyone out, though.

Set your DNS on PS4 to Googles 8.8.8.8 DNS.

Ive used my home wifi for gaming for last 4 years. Never had anything of the sort happen to 360, ps3 and so far ps4. My vita will drop sometimes but not much you can do there. I have a good speed internet though so I can't speak for everyone.

I have mine on Wifi cos I didnt have a Cat5 cable laying around. Or maybe I didnt but I was in to much of a hurry to look for it. Have to get one and swap to wired but.

Just restart your router and once it boots up start up your ps4 should be fine ;)

I just hard wired my consoles. For some reason my ps3 and ps4 only get about half speed in our house through wifi. A laptop set right next to them will get the full speed. We would also lose connection if the microwave was turned on. Running the Ethernet cords essentially doubled our connection speed and never loses signal.

I would rather be using a CAT 5 cable instead of Wi-Fi. I think its faster, especially when you're not 100% connected to the router/modem

consoles issues are only a big deal when its not ps4. we all know ps4 has way more issues than the other consoles.

Really? So where are the articles reporting failures? Apart from the usual failure articles at launch there have been none. Less than 1% of 2.1 million consoles sold......yeah, that sounds like many issues to me /s. Both consoles have had issues, both completely normal for launch of a new piece of hardware.

I know about 15-20 people with a new PS4, me included. Never had that problem. Probably we're just 15-20 lucky people.

Not lucky at all, completely normal. Millions of PS4's have been sold and less than 1% have been reported fault. A working, flawless PS4 is what the majority have.
