Eurogamer - Fighter Within Review

"There are so many things wrong with Fighter Within it's impossible to keep count. The first thing you notice is the gesture recognition. Kinect struggles to comprehend the most basic of hand movements. Performing simple actions requires gargantuan amounts of perseverance and luck, and frequently leaves you frustrated, furious and exhausted. And that's just the menu screens."

........

Oh my that was brutal.

pyramidshead3799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

Kinect 2.0 at its finest.

Seriously though the only thing it's good at right now is not being a 1:1 peripheral experience(Like kinect 1.0), face scanning and and being a forced(well let's say 'highly recommended') alternative in traversing a cluttered, messy UI. People paid you $100 more for this Microsoft q_q'.

jackanderson19853799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

ah yeah one quite poor game, rushed to be a launch title clearly spells out doom for the kinect 2...

if it's still this crap a year down the line then yeah it should be destroyed and never remembered... also cluttered UI? it's a relatively straight forward UI.. store is to the right, pins are the left and the main screen is where ur recently played and current title are but yeah cluttered and messy ok

That was the most scathing dissent against a video game I have ever read.

"The other black character in the game can "communicate with voodoo spirits". Her biography reveals she lost her family in the 2010 Haiti earthquake. No, not too soon, perfectly appropriate, well done.

Don't worry, white people, you get stereotyped too! Meet kilt-wearing ginger thug Feargas (sic). "A ruined Scottish aristocrat and blacksmith, he divides his time between renovating the family castle, playing rugby and boxing." There's also a blonde Russian woman who dresses like a prostitute, the usual collection of assorted ethnic minorities sporting shaved heads and vaguely tribal tattooos, and a cockerny twat who pronounces dojo "dodgo"."

Um... the game is dead. You can probably stop the review now...

MightyNoX3799d ago

@jackanderson

Yeah? What AAA rating games are there to justify Kinect? Zoo tycoon? Ryse? Erhm...aaaaa--

NoLongerHereCBA3799d ago

Eonjay, that just shows that this is a rushed game/bad idea, which shouldn't have been released.

Games like Dance Central worked flawlessly with there menus. I really have no idea what Ubisoft has done to make it so terrible. Wish they would've canceled this game and put there focus on other games that do have potential.

stuna13799d ago

This game could be the perfect child distraction! All parent would have to do is sit their children in front of Fighter Within, leaving them to play for 15 minutes, instant nap time from exhaustion lol.

frostypants3799d ago

@VaizardNL, why did MS allow them to release it in this state?

MazzingerZ3799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

No one expected this to be a hit, right? So I guess this is ok, later games might use the X1 camera better just like games will show the PS4 real muscles in the near future

Godmars2903799d ago

No. That would be as a TV remote.

On topic: it was pretty obvious that is game didn't work when you saw any videos of people playing it. Which MS seems to have tried to avoid until the last possible second.

They said it would better be than fighter uncaged they said it would be responsive they said it would be fun they said Kinect 2.0 made it 1:1 accuracy THEY LIED O.O

Volkama3799d ago

Brutal and quite funny.

"~concept of brawling involves standing side-by-side and flailing about like a pair of camp kittens trying to climb a wall of butter."

Motion gaming at it's finest.

frostypants3799d ago

THIS IS WHY I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR KINECT 2.0. MS insisted all this crap was a thing of the past. Apparently not.

Volkama3799d ago

There will be crap games with or without kinect. The trick is to not buy those ones.

frostypants3799d ago (Edited 3799d ago )

Oh yeah? Show me a good Kinect game that isn't dance related on either 360 or One. Steel Battalion was supposed to be the game changer, and we all know what an abortion that turned out to be. There is a near 100% correlation between "crap" and "Kinect game".

I think that's the lowest score I've ever seen on Eurogamer

GroundZeroesBob3799d ago

Yeh Eurogamer don't usually throw 1's around. I can see other reviewers giving similar scores.

ThatEnglishDude3799d ago

Did anyone honestly expect anything else? This looked shockingly bad from it's inception.

FITgamer3799d ago

Edonus thought it would get 11/10.

RealtorMDandDC3799d ago

even virtual ones or the sense of pushing a button. You can see the future in Minority Report. There have to be a illusion of tactical feedback...or some sort.

Fifa Road To World Cup 2006 might of been crap, but it had some bangin easy achievements

RealOldGamer2014d ago

Night Trap was awesome, cheesy, and terrible all in one. It's a game everyone has to play.

I also loved Street Fighter The Movie, and Street Fighter: The Movie - the game.
Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and The Muscles From Brussels all in one movie/game? Yeah its already awesome.

Top 10 Worst Kinect Games

Alex S. from Link-Cable writes: "A few days ago, Microsoft announced that they were officially discontinuing their Kinect motion-sensing accessory. What was once considered a chief-rival to Nintendo’s Wii revolution and an integral part of the Xbox One’s launch has come to an end, and we here at Link-Cable… couldn’t be happier. The Kinect, while sporting impressive technology never managed to live up to its full potential and most of the games released for the device either had shoe-horned in support or barely functioned as intentioned, in part because of the device’s very specific ideal conditions. So as the Kinect sails off into sunset, we’ve decided to remember the worst of times and look back at the Top 10 Worst Kinect games."

Kinect, for me, is easily worth owning for two things: Dance Central for me acting like an idiot and having fun, and Kinect Party for my kids when they want to have easy-access stupid fun at like a kid's party. Those were the only games I have enjoyed on it, and they couldn't be done any other way (well, I guess that KP is EyeToy-level work). But my hope is that when motion control falls away, we'll get a proper DDR again.

andrewsquall2353d ago (Edited 2353d ago )

Yet for 150 quid it is and was most certainly not worth owning for solely those 2 games, that you have to pay money for also.

Now far be it from me to tell you what is worth it or not worth it to you. But if that is what is worth it to you, I don't want to know what ISN'T worth it lol.

RyanDJ2352d ago

It was worth it to buy one used for half price and get one of those two games for free. ;)

datriax2353d ago

All of them are tied for 1st place.

darthv722353d ago

Star wars wouldnt be so bad if it didnt have.... the dancing. Ughhh that dancing.

They should do a list of 10 best kinect games as well. I'm sure fruit ninja and gun stringer would be on there. Those are actually fun to play.
