Roundtable: Critically Acclaimed Games You've Never Played

The VGU staff discuss some critically acclaimed games that they have never gotten around to playing.

WeAreLegion4217d ago (Edited 4217d ago )

Every single one of these games is wonderful. I hope everyone gets the chance to play each at some point or another.

Ezz20134217d ago (Edited 4217d ago )

who didn't play any of those yet ?!

YoungKingDoran4217d ago

Half life and half life 2 for me.
I'll try and get them done before 3 comes out.

WeAreLegion4217d ago

I'd set a more realistic goal like...sometime before you die.

bicfitness4217d ago

A bit controversial, but I keep trying to get through TLoU without success. I adore the setting and story, but something about the mechanics just don't gel with me. Move to a new area > stealth or run around or go in guns (and limited ammo) blazing > cutscene > repeat.

I'll finish the game, eventually. And I'm not contesting its "greatness". The game is polished and pure AAA magnificence. I just don't fancy the flow of it, personally. Question to those who have really sunk into the game. Does the game-play open up later? Or is it essentially what the first three or so hours entail?

The strong points of that game is the storytelling, the gameplay is barely diferent from uncharted in most things the game includes an basic upgrade system for the firing weapons later on but that´s pretty much it the game gets progresivelly harder as you keep moving with plenty of traps and smart enemy AI.

critically accailmed game series i still havent played

Zelda ,megaman, metroid , castlevania, mass effect, star wars knights of the old republic,half-life, power stone, persona/shin megani tensei, Baldurs Gate, World of Warcraft, Neverwinter, Little Big planet ,gears of war, starcraft, marvel vs capcom, Journey, Beyond 2 souls.

HeavenlySnipes4217d ago

They're listing games like Uncharted, God of War, Mass Effect lol. I think a lot of gamers are aware and has probably played games in those series

Also, if everyone says Psychonauts is underrated, then is it really? I always see that game pop up on lists as an overlooked game yet all these people have played it

pungello884217d ago

This isn't an overlooked games list, they are games that we have personally not gotten the chance to play.

"They're listing games like Uncharted, God of War, Mass Effect lol. I think a lot of gamers are aware and has probably played games in those series "

Isn't that the point? I've played 400+ games this generation alone, but still never played a GTA game. It happens.

And not in a good way! GOW 2018 was not what I was expecting either, and it blew me away! However this is like a popcorn fart in church.

Elda10d ago

I wouldn't mind playing that, I'm guessing somewhat in the vein of Prince Of Persia:TLC but hopefully with better graphics.

RaidenBlack9d ago

Which 2.5D tho?
I think its a top down perspective game.

PassNextquestion9d ago

2.5D can be done in many different ways. It could be as simple as a size scrolling game with 3D backgrounds

Nebaku9d ago

Well it says "Metroidvania". I think you can derive which kind of 2.5D from that.

ravens5210d ago

🤔 Interesting. Nothing wrong with switching it up to a different genre of game for a side project. Hope they don't try to do that to a main entry.

jznrpg10d ago

This sounds very interesting. I love a good Metroidvania.

Deathdeliverer9d ago

Actually sounds good as hell in my imagination. Definitely interested.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_9235d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil34d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.
