Quantum Break Showcases Dimensional Imaging’s DI4D Tech

Dimensional Imaging has announced that Remedy Entertainment has licensed its DI4D facial performance capture software for use in the development of its upcoming Xbox One title, Quantum Break. DI4D is able to derive high-definition (HD) facial motion capture from an array of nine standard video cameras, without using markers, makeup or special illumination.

Is quantum break anything like a quantic dream game? I'm asking is that the design direction?

snipab8t4233d ago

No I'm pretty sure it is completely different.

Neonridr4233d ago

Quantum Break is a game made by Remedy, the same studio who made Alan Wake for the Xbox 360 and PC. I think it's just a coincidence that the names are similar. But this game will be a fully playable game, not like Quantic Dream games which are usually interactive stories with QTE's thrown into the mix.

christocolus4233d ago (Edited 4233d ago )

Nope.. QD and Remedy have very different styles to their games especially in the gameplay department..but david cage and sam lake are very good at naratives and unlike most devs, their stories usually immerse you alot more into their games..in a recent interview, david cage praised sam lakes unique method of story telling in games.said only few devs are able to do what they do.

Evil_Abed4233d ago

No, while both Remedy and QD make story focused games, Remedy make games with gameplay as well

Toast is awesome. ....I have to agree

Plagasx4233d ago

Except when you burn it...I despise burned toast.

Agent20094233d ago

I make my toasts in a microwave oven, because I don't have a toaster. But it still rocks.

BABY-JEDI4233d ago

Toast from a toaster is even more awesome, because its so convenient.

Remedy is an amazing developer and I really hope this game is a hit for them. Alan Wake was one of my favorite games, but I can't help but think this console exclusivity is going to end up hurting them yet again. Even so I will be cheering for them.

christocolus4233d ago

How would it hurt them? Ms is fully funding the project and publishing it and sam lake said if it wasnt for ms he would never have even considered something as ambitious as this project besides quantic dreams is doing somethin similar with sony and i dont see it hurting them either. These guys are 2nd party devs to ms just as qd is to sony

cleft54233d ago

I am simply referring to getting their games in the hands of as many people as possible. Similar to the situation with Platinum Games and Bayonetta 2. Don't get me wrong, I fully understand that Microsoft is funding this project the same as Nintendo is funding Bayonetta 2 so ultimately this is a win for them.

My fear is that this game won't get the mainstream success that it deserves and it will just end up being another critical success that doesn't sell well for them. I want Remedy to have a big hit so that the company will be able to stand on it's own and eventually make Alan Wake 2.

malokevi4233d ago

Console exclusives are only a detriment to the developer if they aren't Playstation exclusives. Everybody knows that!!

mixelon4233d ago

I'm refusing to get hooked this time on exclusives like this.

Alan Wake was exclusive too.. Years later admittedly, but the Windows version is significantly nicer than the 360 one. Same for Deadly Premonition (lol) most of the games I got my 360 for graced other platforms in the end.

JackISbacK4233d ago

sorry it is an microsoft owned ip developed by 2nd party studio remedy studios ,ms announced it at e3 and it will never going to get multiplat until ms sold it,this time microsoft is focusion on buying all 2nd or 3rd party games ,so that it does not spoil the console, ther are many games like ryse or gears of war which may can go multiplat because these are not buyied by ms,and they are also focusing on making great 1st party games and there are multiple games in develop ment and regarding their technologies my sources say that DI4D Tech an dmm tech are also used in other projects of ms because with publishing ms is also doing the production of the game and they are provideing these tech to its other 1st party studios and many other 3rd party exclusives, but this time there are more aaa 1st party ips from ms and less 3rd and 2nd party titles ,but the production and tech providing is doing from ms only wheter its 3rd party studios but still ms have not buyied titanfall ,which may can go multiplat in future ,but we belive ms is trieng to buy the ip[ and if 1st titanfall got very successful ms will trough much money to them to buy the ip ,only if it get the same anticipation after launch as it is getting now.

JackISbacK4233d ago

if this game will not get into mainstream so just tell me is last of us and uncharted are not in mainstream ,belive me if this game got same critical appreciation ,it will be get into mainstream ,nd is not only amazing devs there are many more and as i said ms has owned the ip ,if not belive me just google it.

christocolus4233d ago

Remedy and ms are really going all out for this game. Sam lake said the title is very ambitious and would never have been been possible without the backing of a mega corporation like ms.. The game has a tv show which will run side by side with it so i think to bridge the gap between the realism of the in game characters and real life, remedy has to actually make the game as realistic as possible...im really excited about this game..

mixelon4233d ago

The problem with their also being a TV show is that that TV show is almost guaranteed to be awful. I really wish companies would stop trying to combine these things and concentrate on what the different mediums are actually most competent at.

It'd be neat if the show IS good but lets be honest.. What are the chances? We have had enough modern sci-fi series that it's unlikely to compare favourably to. Just make a great game, dammit.

Microsoft's vision of the future of gaming is surprisingly anti-games and a bit ridiculous.

christocolus4233d ago

I dont think so. You should watch the interview of sam lake on polygons website.may be that will give you more perspective into what this game is actually about and the mixture of live action with gameplay.the full game and the tv show will ship together on the disc..its actually a very great idea..i hope they pull it off. Remedy are very talented devs.

Golden_Mud4233d ago

Black used the same method as Quantum Break and see how great it looked with the live action with gameplay

Mikefizzled4233d ago

Back to back announcements of awesome from Remedy?

While there’s likely already a list behind closed doors, one can still speculate and offer logical suggestions for titles new and old that should find their way into the PlayStation and Switch libraries.

Single A games and live service games. Those make sense

S2Killinit469d ago

None of it makes sense. But its happening.

Ps5conehead468d ago

That’s up to Microsoft they want return on there investment. From buying up those publishers. That’s what there in business for. And they made a mistake putting day one exclusive on game pass. So now Microsoft wants to profit any way they can.its called buisness . Just like Sony putting games on pc a year are two after ps5 launch.
So if they can make money off PlayStation and Nintendo. They will do that. And I bet soon real soon they will release some aaa exclusives .and I bet one day it will be same day release

TheEroica468d ago

Sony gamers begging for Xbox games.... Who would've thunk it?

BISHOP-BRASIL468d ago

Yeah, because random site off the internet represents all Sony gamers, they have the letter of attorney and all...

S2Killinit468d ago

Lol what a spin. You dizzy?

AsunaYuukiTheFlash468d ago (Edited 468d ago )

We don’t care about shovelwares. Get that junk out of PS5

Friendlygamer469d ago

Some of these seem to be exclusive for lack of enthusiasm of the publisher rather than because of deals. A lot of cool indies skip ps for some reason like katana zero, el paso, elsewhere and gunbrela

S2Killinit469d ago

Even more indies skip xbox. We know that right?

Friendlygamer469d ago

Quality over quantity, Microsoft got some really interesting and curated niche games on their machines, maybe in part because of gamepass

S2Killinit468d ago

Quality and MS are not things you bring up in same sentence.

shinoff2183468d ago (Edited 468d ago )

Alot of indies skip xbox to. It goes round and round. Personally I think your off base on that but no need to have the argument.

Friendlygamer468d ago

Between katana zero, valheim, Battletech, el passo... I don't feel off base. maybe ps got a million of light novel games that will never release on Xbox but like I've said, I'm talking about niche games highlights, the 10%.

Heck, it's probably thanks to Microsoft that the s.t.a.l.k.e.r games came to console ps included, meanwhile Sony backwards compatibility continues to be extremely anemic.

And I'm sure most ps5 users are happy to ignore these games and just play wathever new 3rd person action game is trending but it's cool that Microsoft gives some love to smaller audiences and software preservation

shinoff2183468d ago

Again your off base just to be snide. All it's showing though is your ignorance.

One light novels wtf is that even. Ps has plenty of pretty damn good indies.

Speaking of indies and ms being responsible. You know F.I.S.T. of course you do alot of you guys just support gamepass. Well here's a history of Sony being responsible for helping indies. Look up the China project from Sony.

Lastly lol your ignorance showing again. Sony has plenty of games. Personally third person is better then first anyway but that's besides the point. Sony gets so many games that xbox doesn't get because yall don't support the games. Jrpgs being a great example. I personally am not into every Sony first party game. Alot of us aren't. On the other side you don't get to eat often so you gobble up everything. Me personally God of War not my cup, etc. For me I'm into jrpgs and ms just can't touch Sony on those. Again because the Xbox base doesn't support it. Devs dont wanna waste their time or money. Hit me up when falcom develops a game over there.

Speaking of third person narrative games. Aren't yall drooling over hellblade 2. The first one was Sony exclusive at one point. Another not my cup game. Showing we don't have to fall in line and agree we love everything Sony puts out. The facts are they sell though unlike elsewhere(not nintendo)

StormSnooper468d ago

You are same person as GamerRN, yes?

Abnor_Mal469d ago

They really think PlayStation fans would want to play Redfall? Pfft.

Personally nothing on that list would be any game I’d want to play.

TwoPicklesGood469d ago

I’d absolutely love Hellblade 2, Palworld, and Quantum Break on ps5 as I’m sure tons of others would too. There’s nothing wrong with wanting games from another console and its sad that people try to act like they aren’t interested in them.

shinoff2183468d ago

While indont agree with the games. I agree with the point. Your not wrong.

DarXyde469d ago

Sunset Overdrive makes very good sense. Palworld might.

Don't know about the others. Hellblade II does make sense given the original launched on PS4 first. Quantum Break was a massive letdown for me. I absolutely hated the whole TV show thing and I don't think anyone should have to relive that on modern hardware.

Now that Remedy owns Control, it’s time to reclaim Quantum Break

Alan Wake 2 studio Remedy Entertainment has reclaimed the rights to Control, and now sci-fi hit Quantum Break deserves the same treatment.

Totally agree with that especially when Quantum Break has several references to Alan Wake and Alan Wake make allusions to QB.
I do believe that MS and Remedy can work things out and MS has usually been nice to devs and publishers regarding IP.

Obscure_Observer485d ago

They can't "reclaim" what was never theirs.

Petebloodyonion484d ago

I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP.

Lightning77484d ago

MS is not doin anything with it. Plus they're doing a multiverse of their own so Remedy needs the IP.

If MS wants to have exclusive let it be timed for 6 months then go to other platforms. MS seems to be, let's say, generous with some if their games as of late.

Or have QB2 be multiplat from the jump, put it on GP. Keeping QB2 as an exclusive is kinda weird these days.

Obscure_Observer484d ago (Edited 484d ago )

@Petebloodyonion

"I’m sure we can settle for purchase from MS the IP."

Good luck

@Lightning77

"MS is not doin anything with it."

Japan Studio is dead nd Sony isn´t doing anything with Bloodborne either! Yet I can 100% guarantee that there´s a far bigger demand for a sequel, remake or even a remaster for that game from both PS5 and PC gamers.

That been said, why don´t you ask Sony tol sell the IP to Fromsoftware now that according to rumors, they bought Elden Ring from Bandai?

ZwVw485d ago (Edited 485d ago )

Reclaim? That would mean that they actually owned the ip at one point, which they never did (MS always has). Apples & oranges. Remedy always owned the Control ip (just not the publishing), as they have with Alan Wake.

About as likely as them getting the Max Payne rights from Rockstar.

mastershredder485d ago (Edited 485d ago )

Sending you game to a publisher does not mean they get "rights to own it " unless that was part of the contract (monetary/ strategic reasons). 505 was the publisher they worked with to publish and distribute it, it dos not mean that 505 flat out "owned" anything, clearly they did have a special arrangement that made them open to limit their publishing rights. and so here we are and big whoop

Jingsing484d ago (Edited 484d ago )

Yeah get Quantum Break PS5, only if you put it on disc with all the associated movie material.

isarai484d ago

I mean they got the Alan Wake IP back from MS, so I feel like they could get QB back as well

15 Games That Like to Play With Your Mind

15 games on FIFTEEN pages? That's a NO from me.

Superliminal
Antichamber
Manifold Garden
Portal & Portal 2
The Stanley Parable
Monument Valley
Gorogoa
Thumper
Inscryption
Q.U.B.E. 2
Darq
Quantum Break
Perspective
Inside
The Swapper

IamTylerDurden1782d ago (Edited 782d ago )

I think Inscryption is the best game on that list. PT and Returnal i would offer. Returnal deserves a spot over some of the listed games. Especially after chapter 3. Maybe even Alice MR? Death Stranding? Kojima all together. To much smaller degree Dead Space. I'm spitballing.

I didn't play Thumper enough to see beyond the visual spectacle. Curious choice.

SullysCigar781d ago (Edited 781d ago )

I'd add FEAR and RE7 (when Ethan starts getting visions, especially in the boat) to that list.

Edit: and Here They Lie

Petebloodyonion781d ago

What no Eternal Darkness on the list?

BrainSyphoned780d ago

Only makes me think of gatcha loot crate game specifically built to play your mind into becoming an addict.
