Developers stepping it up for Wii?

A lot of gamers don't care for Wii because of graphical power, and online capability's. But will the efforts of third party developers stepping things up change those thoughts?

When the specifications for Wii, at the time Revolution, were revealed, many gamers were disappointed by the supposable "GameCube 2.5? graphics chip, and most still are to this day. Because of this, many developers are not treating the Wii as a current generation console, but thats not all. Many gamers were also disappointed when it was announced that Wii would use friend codes. Since then, it seems that only Nintendo has been able to use the advantages to Wii's graphical capability's, and Wii's online. But that seems to be changing.

actually has a decent GPU. It is a lot more powerful than the Gamecube. It just can't use higher resolution textures like the 360 or PS3. Resident Evil 4 for Gamecube was one of the best looking games of last gen. There is no reason that developers shouldn't be able to surpass RE4's visuals by a long shot.

I think that the main problem is PS2 development. A lot of developers are porting PS2 games to Wii, when it is capable of much better. It isn't a big secret that Wii development is cheap, so developers are just pumping out shovelware.

Hopefully as PS2 development declines Wii games will improve.

mistertwoturbo5629d ago

Therein lies the problem of a Casual games machine. It will be made by a casual minded developer.

You only get quality games with a passionate developer. Bioshock, GTAIV, Metal Gear Series, etc. all have one thing in common. They want to reach above the bar, and then raise it.

With Wii developers, it's more like "we can make some quick bucks with this game"

ChickeyCantor5629d ago (Edited 5629d ago )

" It just can't use higher resolution textures like the 360 or PS3."

because there is no reason, this machine if build for 480P.

There are developers doing the traditional games we like, not all are doing shovel ware

The Wii could have been exactly the same, except with more power, but nintendo was too greedy.

Anyway they're basing this article on an opinion of a formerly good developer gone lame, which would naturally hype their own product. I seriously laugh at Factor 5's claim that the Wii's engine can do "everything the PS3 can do, and even more". So what's the point of even making a powerful console? Sony should have made a Wii then... oh wait.

Anyhow, same thing goes for the quantum engine, which was claimed to achieve PS3 graphics... but the images clearly show another Metroid. Seriously, I'm tired of developers trying to give the Wii a shot just because they'll make money, and try to make us gamres look like fools by believing their lies and bullsh1t. I don't buy it, and I'm skipping those games.

What's next, something about the vaporware that NIBRIS is supposedly developing?

Show some proof next time, morons.

BTW, as long as Wii games exist, PS2 will remain supported.

Durffen5629d ago

The developer for The Conduit never ever said they could achieve PS3 graphics on Wii. They stated they were going for 360 like visuals.

Also, Factor 5 has developed a PS3 game, with their own engine. They stated their engine does everything the PS3 one did, and then some. So, if they have developed a PS3 game, and are now developing a Wii game. I'm sure they wouldn't release such a statement with out being sure of what their Wii engine can do as opposed to their PS3 engine.

Voiceofreason5629d ago

Amazing. Not only did you not understand it the first time but you still missed the point even after quoting it. At no point did High Voltage talk about the PS3. Yes the N4G link said it but that wasnt the original link. Obviously some MS guy got pissed and added the PS3 to that. Anyway you probably dont care about the truth. That would give you less reasons to flame the Wii.

ChickeyCantor5629d ago

" I'm tired of developers trying to give the Wii a shot just because they'll make money, and try to make us gamres look like fools "

... how are they making us look like fools? you dont have to buy the game, but if its a good game you will be missing out.
I say you would be the fool for missing out games.

I've said it many times, DS ( and i can bet the PSP too) are nowhere near the consoles of today yet some games are more fun then these Hollywood games.

bootsielon5629d ago

From the article: "After The Conduit was announced, some other Nintendo fan sites quoted the developer wrong, writing that the developer stated The Conduit would have “360 and PS3 graphics”. The developer said they were aiming for “360 like graphics”,"

It says also PS3 graphics. Hell, in N4G it was originally cited as PS3 graphics.

Then you say:

"Also, Factor 5 has developed a PS3 game, with their own engine. They stated their engine does everything the PS3 one did, and then some. So, if they have developed a PS3 game, and are now developing a Wii game. I'm sure they wouldn't release such a statement with out being sure of what their Wii engine can do as opposed to their PS3 engine."

And the article says:

"Lair wasn’t the best playing game, but it did look good, and the president of Factor 5 said that their Wii Engine “…it does everything that the PS3 did and then some, quite frankly.” So it’s more then one developer saying they could go for 360 or PS3 like graphics."

So why do you repeat what the article says? Let me show you what I said since you didn't read:

"Anyway they're basing this article on an opinion of a formerly good developer gone lame, which would naturally hype their own product. I seriously laugh at Factor 5's claim that the Wii's engine can do "everything the PS3 can do, and even more"."

Did you conclude I didn't read the article from that? For someone that has many bubbles, you surely don't impress. Especially with this comment:

"I'm sure they wouldn't release such a statement with out being sure of what their Wii engine can do as opposed to their PS3 engine."

As opposed to being sure that they WOULD hype their product, given that they have to SELL IT? Lair sucked as seen by the reviews, and Factor 5's president is a complete moron if he thinks he has any credibility. Well, at least he has you.

Durffen5629d ago

Lair did suck. But not visually. Yes, they would hype their own product to make sure it would sell. But, after a game like Lair, I don't think they can risk hyping their games up and failing once again.

Nintendo could have released a more powerful system. Why they didn't? I don't know. the reason why I thought you didn't read the article was because of this comment..

"Anyhow, same thing goes for the quantum engine, which was claimed to achieve PS3 graphics... but the images clearly show another Metroid."

PS3 is a more powerful system then 360. And I read through the IGN exclusive first look, and they only mentioned that they are hoping The Conduit will look like a 360 title. High Voltage has not spoken to any other press other then IGN, that I know of. So they couldn't have said anything about PS3 like graphics.

Why must their always be someone who must post a comment flaming the article? No offense.

Wii60PS3DSPSP5629d ago

TLDR

To sum it up boot is crying about the Ps3 losing to the Wii like every ps3 fanboy on this site.

jinn5629d ago

with something called a wii, i dont think so

lizard812885629d ago

as long as the games are fun, i really don't care how the graphics look. then again i don't want them to get to bad, but so far the graphics work for me.

Always remember Polygon's take on MK 8 and how it would end up being worse selling entry in franchise history. Oof. MK 8 deluxe is going to have one hell of a holiday. You know that Switch bundle is coming back.

Sgt_Slaughter686d ago

Polygon having a bad take? Sounds 100% accurate to me.

Inverno686d ago

Baffles me that they haven't made any new dlc for this, and yet they focus on the mobile game smh

meganick686d ago

I can only imagine that the Mario Kart devs have been hard at work on the follow-up to 8, hence why it got no dlc.

Inverno686d ago

We can only assume that they'll show something next year if they are working on the next game. With the way Ninty has been announcing games close to their release they don't leave room for any leaked info

--Onilink--686d ago

Its not like its the same developer. The one working on the mobile game isnt even a Nintendo developer
