For gamers waiting for the next generation of consoles, we’re finally into the home stretch. Sony's PlayStation 4 launch is just a week away on Nov. 15 and Microsoft's Xbox One launches a week after on Nov. 22. In early buzz, more people are talking about Sony’s new entry. But even with less of the conversation, Microsoft could still finish on top, according to new data from several social media trackers.

Well, instead of focusing our attention on resolution and stuff like that, why not just concentrate on the features the consoles has?

Like Remote Play, or Live Streams, or Second Screen/Smart Glass.

Wouldn't those things make a more compelling experience than just a resolution?
Not trying to downplay the resolution because it is important.
It shows the long lasting potential those consoles will have over time.

BTW, I haven't seen anyone telling people that you must buy the Xbox One because of the kinect.
No one. Not a single person. Yet, isn't this the main reason to buy the Xbox One? Exclusives aside, obviously, it's the reason why it's 500$.

Unity is free for all developers (Not just XBOX). Sony has a number of free tools available to developers and it's really easy to "self-publish" on playstation platforms.

Unity isn't free. There is a free version - and this one doesn't support XO. That requires a Pro License. And BTW Unity supports all three Sony platforms. Vita, PS3 and PS4.

You see, PSN is just as good as Live, in fact better, because you need not pay for things 3 times in order to use them.

I'm not sure where the fantasy of PSN being garbage came from, but it probably started by the same ppls who believe in clouds making games better.

PS4 will sell the most machines by a very large margin because it is in another league. Xbox has a few dancing games which are good for Kinect, but as a raw gaming machine and multiplayer experience, it can't shine PS4's shoes on its best day. Its too weak to keep up with the ever progressing gaming visuals.

What kind of next Gen machine pushes last Gen visuals on a dam exclusive? Come on. Its a glorified 360 with some tv stuff and a new camera.

Clearly they ain't. U seem the vids for it? The textures look soft. And if u start claiming xb1 cant do decent graphics. Just look at ryse or forza. Better graphics than anything else. Ps4 may have better numbers on a spec sheet, but like a car, what's the point to a 1000 horse power engine if u cant get 1000 horse power out of it. Claims of 50% more power are unfounded, none of ps4 games look 50% better. And in terms of games ps4 has become an indie machine. Results matter far more than specs. The games look great on both but neither is more superior graphically. To the average fella the xb1 will seem more appealing as it can do far more feature wise, ps4 cant even play cds for gods sake. Just play games, nothing else, and despite the internet hype ps4 just doesn't have the better games.

Forza has great graphics, yes, but what about the static environment, pre-baked ligthning, no day/night transition or weather effects.
Ryse may look pretty too, but the gameplay is horrible, AI seems dumb and it is very repetitive.
Who has the better games comes down to opinion, you saying that the PS4 only has indies only shows how hurt you are

Im not hurt. I concede that ps4 is a helluva improvement over its predecessor and does make games pretty. But i have personally played these games we mentioned before. Ryse is not repetitive. If uve played batman arkham games u will knw wot i mean. Batman had around 20 executions right? Around that number. And everyone loved it. I sure did. But ryse had well over 100, rumoured to top at 120. And forza? Now in no racing fan its either turn left or right for me. But if u are a racing fan its ur wet dream, plain and simple. It looks photorealistic, or as close as we r gunna see for a while.

I have to admit when both console were announced long ago i did toy with getting a ps4 (cant afford both) i cudnt make my mind up just looking at the consoles so i decided to look at the games. 3rd party titles are great, so i looked at the exclusives and i thought the xb1 just has the better exclusives. Ive yet to meet a ps4 fanboy that can honestly claim their exclusives are better. Killzone? Looks good but i just think we have enough fps about atm. Cod and bf4 will always be at the top of fps fans list. Knack? Wasn't even interested from the start zzzzzzzzz. So no, in not hurt, in glad, enjoy the ps4 it will be brilliant. Just stop bashing everyone else.

i have m8 and played em both. and getting both.but like i said in last post ps3 was crap online.when played ps4 crashed twice and when did get to play. its lag was bad hence thats why i hope they get better.as for battlefield 4 will be getting on xbox one.no point having nice graphics if dont run nice plus i thought game looked better and ran better same as cod.

That's your opinion. I believe that the 400 dollar cheaper console that's been having issues crashing and bricking is inferior. And this is coming from a guy who's 2nd favorite console of all time was the original playstation. And a guy who has the ps4 pre ordered but is now debating on canceling my preorder due to the low review scores and failing systems. hmmm...now which is inferior???

I'm sorry, I will not be playing any 720p games next gen. Those games are 2nd and 3rd tier purchases, when the price drops then they're worth it imo. 720p has no place in next gen. I tell you, these "next gen consoles" are becoming a little disappointing. 1080p 60fps should have been a given.

I'm not sure why people are so intent to write Microsoft off. Sure, a couple of their launch games are only 720p. We're talking total sales... And the majority of the people buying/playing these games won't care/notice the difference.... And that's not to say resolution doesn't matter (it does!) it just doesn't matter right now in the grand theme of things. Chances are, the next wave of xb1 games will achieve 1080p.

What does matter right now is games and marketing. I've been seeing xb1 ads non stop over the last few days. They're touting COD:Ghost exclusive content, Showing beautiful gameplay of Ryse, showing Dead Rising during Walking dead, showing NFL integration during football games, showing Xbox fitness during women targeted shows, showing Skype integration, showing kinect sports during kids shows. They are giving every demographic a reason to check out the xb1.

Compare that to Sony,who's commercials are lots of live action, but very little gameplay and very little about the system itself. Outside of Killzone, their launch titles don't make for a good commercial. How do you advertise Resogun?

It's clear that Sony as the hardest core locked down, and those are the ones making the preorders. But when mom see she can use xb1 for fitness and Skype, she might be a little more likely to gift wrap one for her son. MS is undoubtedly going to put up a big fight.

1. How do you know the majority won't care/notice the differences?

2. Marketing didn't save the 360 from third place. And you're really selling the PlayStation ads short(not surprising, honestly).

3. Even unlike the current gen, the average consumer will be up on the details of these consoles. Why would mom buy an XB1 for fitness when she can have a Wii or even a Wii U for half the price? Why get it for Skype when her iPhone, tablet and PC already have it?

We ARE talking total sales, and in that, the PlayStation brand has greater power than any in the gaming industry has EVER had. With the advent and meteoric popularity rise of twitter and facebook, even the soccer moms have access to everything they need to know about these consoles. They'll know what the prices are, what the limitations are, the accessories, games, and so on.

Really, the only thing Microsoft has going for it in relation to the XB1 is that they have so much money. Right now, pretty much everything else is in their competition's favor. Including marketing.

2: 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place... That's not the only measure of success. The ps3 didnt outsell the wii, but the ps3 was still successful. same with the xbox 360. Compared to the previous generation, Microsoft gained an impressive amount of marketshare and looks to continue to find success in gaming. My comment was not about MS having the top selling device. It was about how foolish it would be to predict Microsoft will unsuccessful this gen.

3: maybe your mom won't buy it. I'm not saying every mother will. But that's not what I said. I said a mother who was already looking buy a gaming system for her son, MIGHT be inclined to buy one that will have something in it for her.

1. Which history? The history of 20 years ago? Or of ten years ago? Or of a month ago? History says more and more people are starting to care, as information is more and more easily available.

2. There are multiple measures of success, yes. Microsoft was successful in increasing their marketshare. It was largely their marketing campaigns and headstart that allowed them that growth, yet those advantages don't seem to be present this time around. By the way, most people aren't saying they won't be successful, only that they don't stand a realistic chance of winning this generation. And winning the generation is ONLY counted in units sold.

3. What mom would, after hearing her son wants a PS4 or a Wii U, get him an XB1 due to Skype and exercise games? Besides, you say that as if the other consoles have nothing "in it for her."

I read your comment. You think people are underestimating Microsoft, that they have a realistic shot at winning this generation. You seem to have no grasp of the fact that Microsoft isn't in a position to win right now, even if it may be possible in the future.

I really don't think you read my comment because I didn't mention anything about "winning the generation". In fact my conclusion was "MS is undoubtedly going to put up a big fight". I think you just see things through a hostile fanboy lens.

1: No recent history is showing that the vocal minority is getting louder. The Neogaf, N4G crowd doesn't represent a a majority of the gaming community. Neither does the twitter community. Those can be good indicators of current trends among certain demographics, and right now it's hardcore gamers who are bickering about resolutions. Chances are, once less die hard fans start getting these consoles enmass, resolutiongate will be a thing of past.

2: winning this generation? Only fanboys care about who sells more consoles at the end of the generation. The question is whether or not there will be a spirited competition. And the obvious answer to that is YES.

3: your making to big a deal out of this. It's a selling point. Maybe it wouldn't be a selling point to you. Maybe you think people who see it as selling point are wasting their money. But the fact remains that there are people who will buy it for that reason (or similar reasons) Am I saying moms will buy something their kids don't want? No. I'm saying that a parent who is weary of spending hundreds of dollars on a new piece of tech, might feel more comfortable doing so if they feel like other members of the household will also use it as well.

I don't THINK people are underestimating Microsoft. I KNOW they are. A shot at winning the generation? I don't really care about who wins a generation, so that thought hasn't crossed my mind at all. But since you asked... Do I think MS is in a position to win it right now? No. But the the generation is supposed to last 7-10 years, so I don't think their position right now is a big deal in the long run. Who knows what will happen between now and then?!? Unfortunately the price difference does make it matter. No one asked for the Kinect 2.0, MS just thinks it's what you want and therefore is forcing everyone to buy it with the console. Why should we trust the Kinect when not 1 and I mean not 1 memorable game was made for the Kinect 1.
