Like its namesake, (the French term for the soldiers on the front line of combat,) Avant-garde forms of art face fierce opposition from the status quo. They are likely to be misunderstood in their methods by most, and may never be fully embraced until many generations have passed. Their inspirations will have worked behind the scenes of the public, usually inspiring creators of various artistic mediums vastly more than that of general public.
