Gotham City impostor – Batman: Arkham Origins review | Gaming Trend

Gaming Trend editor David Roberts writes: "In a single stroke, WB Montreal has ruined any desire I had in ever donning the cowl again. Unless future entries show marked improvement, I will not be tuning in, regardless of Bat Time or Bat Channel."

Well, if ever a review was looking for hits.

A 4/10 for this is a criminal rating. I think he needs to play some games that are actually 4/10 worthy then come back with a point of reference. What the hell is going on this last month or so. Gaming journalism across the board is going nuts.

davidrobots4244d ago (Edited 4244d ago )

Our review scale says 40 out of 100 is "Below Average." 50 is our average score.

I lost 13 hours of progress to a glitch that corrupted my save.

You bet I gave this game a 40 out of 100. I probably could have gone lower, but I actually felt the gameplay wasn't quite terrible, even though it was exactly like Arkham City.

listenkids4244d ago

You're supposed to be a professional? Not sure if serious.

RickHiggity4244d ago

Maybe I just have a thing called maturity, but sine is a lost progress glitch worthy of such whining?

davidrobots4244d ago

@Rick You are defending a glitch that effectively breaks the game? Are you being serious?

spicelicka4244d ago (Edited 4244d ago )

That was your personal experience, maybe it was a rare occurrence that won't affect the rest of the world who you're reviewing the game for? And most likely if it's recurring it'll be patched with an update.

Your review is supposed to be subjective based on how the experience would be for the general population. If the glitch is permanent and occurs every time to every one, then you have every right to score it lower.

Seems like you just got pissed that you lost your save, which is shitty and definitely deserves to be criticized about. In that regard your actual review is totally fine, but the score I don't agree lowering it that much is fair.

Gaming journalism is starting to respect the whole review scale. That's all.

Knightshade4244d ago

Maybe game journalism is starting to be journalism instead of just a paid advertisement? Take a look around the 'net - there are MANY people having issues with their save files. Not exactly an isolated occurrence.

kratos_TheGoat4244d ago (Edited 4244d ago )

on some seriously shit i want a superman game by rs good or bad i cop it

Darkfire3694244d ago

Not saying the review is bad, just that, having played it myself, Arkham Origins seems really great. In fact, it's better than Arkham City in some aspects. Just my opinion.

davidrobots4244d ago

And that's great! I'm really glad you like it. I wanted to like it too, as I loved Asylum and City. I did, for a bit. But then the combat wore me down, and I lost my save 13 hours in – I did research, I wasn't the only one this happened to. It's 2013, major game-breaking bugs are inexcusable from AAA titles.

Reviews are opinion. Lots of people liked the game. Others, not so much – myself included.

Thanks for reading the review, and I appreciate the feedback!

Game is easily an 8.0. So much fun.

The getaway
Smugglers run
Dead to rights
Worlds scariest police chases
Sure I’m missing a few.

Mannn… worlds scaries police chases… that took me back lol

Ape Escape.
Fun game but, wow, you need a college degree to understand the controls.
A remaster would also save you from having to constantly fight the camera.
Keep the music though. Those drum and bass tracks fit really well and haven't aged. Made me think that more games could work well with drum and bass tracks, but unfortunately it's a somewhat niche genre now.

Max Payne Series
Infamous 1 & 2
NBA Street Vol 2
SSX
Skate

i could have sworn i read somewhere that Remedy is remaking May Payne 1 but things have been quiet lately

YourMommySpoils120d ago

They are making the first one, as we speak.

One of the few Xbox games I own. I have 3 copies of it because of the many discs it has, for just in case reasons

jznrpg121d ago (Edited 121d ago )

Xenogears, Xenosaga trilogy, Vagrant Story, Drakengards, Parasite Eve and many more but I’ll start with those

The best Batman Arkham game still isn’t on PS5, and that’s a problem

Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League is almost here, but I can't revisit the best Arkhamverse game on PS5 without sacrificing quality.

Not a fan of Orgins. Blame it on the absence of Conroy & Hamill. Blame it on the lack of atmosphere compared to Asylm. Hell blame it the devs thst dicked over Wii U owners like me that purchased the game only for support be dropped as a thank you to me. It's better than Knight but that's not saying much. I don't care for that entry either.

Rebel_Scum514d ago

tbh buying a game like that for WiiU should’ve been an obvious non-purchase when it existed on better hardware.

Cacabunga513d ago

Origins is amazing..
my favorite Batman is Batman and Robin on mega drive.. an HD REMASTER of that would still look glorious

ZeekQuattro513d ago

I got it launch. Kinda hard to go back. I'm supposed to know they were going to drop support months after the fact. 🤣

Exvalos513d ago

You sound like a salty fanboy, that it didn't come to your precious plastic of choice. It's not the developers fault Nintendo continues making underpowered hardware. It's our fault because we keep buying it. Yes I say (we) I'm part of the problem as well.

ZeekQuattro513d ago

I have a PS3 and a Wii U. How was I a salty fanboy? I bought the game on the system I wanted it for.

Rebel_Scum513d ago

Nah my comment has nothing to do with whether you’d know or not that they’d drop support.

Buying any AAA game of that era for a WiiU you should’ve known you’d be sacrificing graphics and load times.

LucasRuinedChildhood514d ago

It's solid but Origins is definitely not the best Arkham game.

LoveSpuds513d ago

Smacks of hyperbole to me, talk about clutching at straws to create some drama around PS5!!

generic-user-name513d ago

Titles like these are designed to get you to come in, go to their comment section and tell them how they're so wrong so they can boost their numbers.

Phoenix76513d ago

Even though its not the best arkham game in the series, its still an enjoyable game in its own right. What it do really well at though, was the crime investigations scenes. Which imo, were the best of the franchise.

goldwyncq513d ago

I don’t know about best game but it definitely has the best story and boss fights.

boing1513d ago

Never played it and recently I've finally tried it via cloud on psn. It's not the best for sure, but it ain't bad either.

Batman: Arkham Origins - Open World Busy Work that Doesn't Hold Up 10 Years Later

Batman: Arkham Origins launched 10 years ago today, and sadly doesn't stand the test of time as well as its predecessors.

Petebloodyonion594d ago

I fail to grasp why this title is worse compared to Arkham City (according to the article) as the author didn't provide any argument to explain why aside from that it felt the bigger map compared to Arkham Asylum made the experience less tight.
More importantly, the author seems like he never played Arkham City since he described the game as linear (alongside Asylum).
