sony Pulse built quality sucks. It cracks on the plastic

dcj05244209d ago

True. Had to superglue it.still the best though.

Baka-akaB4209d ago (Edited 4209d ago )

Meh i've always felt that turtle beach are the Monster Beats of gaming headsets , overall . They are decent enough , but not nearly worth their price tags (that is for the high end ones before the upcoming xb1 one) .

And it's a worthless article by someone who got no clue anyway . The Pulse elite is nice (unless you got those mentioned above cracking issues , never had so far) but it's not bluetooth . It's a wireless dongle that can also be used with other devices .

Also it does have something special and fancy unlike claimed by the article . Its virtual surround and bass effects are pretty good compared to the competition . IF you care for virtual surround of course to begin with . But at least it's not a jarring and weird simulated effect .

Finally you can always get the Pulse Elite in good deals if careful enough . It's always discounted heavily around black friday , and back when it launched Sony had almost a 50% discount on it for a long while . Just avoid idiotic stuff like the GTA V version , uber expensive with barely a GTA themed design and nothing new

Scatpants4209d ago

If you look around you can usually find last season's top of the line Turtle Beach refurbs for like 80 bucks. I'd say they're totally worth it at that price. I love mine.

KONAAs4209d ago

the downside for the official ps3 headsets is if u lose the ubd dongle sony does not sell replacements, and u have to basically buy a new headset, thats why when i could not find my usb dongle i decided to buy TB px5 but they had so much interferancem ended with the astros A50 and love them worth the price

MadLad4209d ago

I seriously love my A50's.

Dangerousfps4209d ago

Pulse Elite was the Most uncomfortable headset I ever wore. Discomfort equals distraction and therefore a less fun gaming experience. Binned mine.

Sony Pulse Headset To Work With PS4 In Early January

An update in early January will make the Sony Pulse headset compatible with the PlayStation 4.

Happy days . This really should have been implemented day one though Sony .

SL1M DADDY4172d ago

Agreed. I for one use the Logitech wirless headset and love it too much to get something else. I had to buy a Toslink-to-RCA adapter to get it to work with the PS4 but for 16 bucks, it was well worth it. It will be nice to see some of the future headsets but for now a cheap fix will work for me.

zeee4172d ago

I agree! should have been a day one feature. I don't have elite does this mean mine will work too?

Alexious4172d ago

@zee: as stated in the article, the Elite do work right now but only through 3.5mm cable.
The standard Pulse edition doesn't have that, so you can't use it with the PS4 until this upcoming update.

zeee4172d ago

Alexious: Thanks man. I am glad I'd be able to use my original PS Wireless headset but January looks so far!

I absolutely HATED the mono headphones that came in the box (still, it was free!) so I had to use my still-unused Galaxy S3 headphones. They work fine but they are still not as comfortable as the official Sony wireless headset.

+Bus for the helpful comment :)

iiwii4172d ago

Agreed. That was the only thing that left me disappointed once I started playing... No Pulse headset like I am use to wearing.

isarai4172d ago

well better to have it late than not at all

Budobear4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

What about the earlier USB sony headphones?

Ok read the article now which states it should work???? doesn't sound that confident when put like that though

Thevariance4172d ago

There is always some confusion on the Pulse headset. Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that the USA has the Pulse headset, which is equal to the Stereo headset in the UK. Then the US got Pulse Elites, which is called Pulse headset in the UK. I think they are referring to the USA Pulse headset, meaning the stereo headset for the UK, so both the Pulse (Stereo) and Pulse Elites should work.

GhettoBlasStarr4172d ago

Wait!? The Sony Headsets don't work with the PS4?? Wow, who run these companies?? That is ridiculously obvious that should've been day one.

Baka-akaB4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

Not with the wireless . People were warned eons ago anyway that also "Existing wireless headsets from third-party companies that use a Bluetooth connection will not be supported on the PS4 system"

the USB dongle they use is not a generic USB RF dongle. Its a locked down SCEA design dongle. The headset requires the hardware to run the Game audio to USB using SCEA designed Coding to send the Virtual 5.1 audio to the headset...

Meanwhile The Sony Pulse Elite DO work, just not wireless at the moment. Plug them into the controller with the 3.5 jack and they work . If you power them on the Pulse feature, volume controls, muting, audio presets all work also.

Thehyph4172d ago

As stated in the article, it was a time resource issue.

Neither console launched with their full feature set implemented.

The official Sony Pulse headset is not Bluetooth, and that's why it needs native support in the firmware/OS.

Juangie34172d ago

Do you own either? Its only temporarily the wireless component of it that doesn't work.

Drekken4172d ago

Hey, none of the MS old accessories will work with the Xbox EVER.

GhettoBlasStarr4172d ago

1st off to let ya'll know, I'm a gamer that's immune to FanBoy Hate. So get your pissy fanboy panties out of a bunch.

Either the Headsets work with the PS4 or not. If all it takes is a patch for it to work with the system, then it should've all ready been applied. This would've been the best time to sell the Sony Headsets because people a good one to go with their new system. Especially since the headsets kinda came out late in the PS3 cycle.

I wounder how many people bought one thinking it was going to work?? I willing to bet a lot of people.

I'm absolutely loving the Pulse Headset, especially the customisable options. I hope they optimize it further for the PS4.

Insomnia_844277d ago (Edited 4277d ago )

I got it since day one and it's awesome! That rumble in the speakers is pretty cool stuff! Everything in this headset I like.

Blackdeath_6634276d ago

it took ages for it to come to the uk and now that it did we get shafted on the price. will wait for the price to go down but i have been meaning to get one since it was announced.

mewhy324276d ago

Sony just keeps on innovating. They're taking the world by storm in everything they're doing right now. micro$oft who?????????????????????

dcj05244276d ago

Yeah. I just wish they made it a little more comfortable.Awesome headset.

Lwhit64276d ago

It feels a little tight on my head after a day of use, but while using it for two hours it felt toght but then I took them off and my head didn't hurt of feel uncomfortable. It was weird

HammadTheBeast4276d ago

Pretty badass that it can work on both consoles.

TheMrMalro4277d ago

It's amazing for the first few months, then it cracks and snaps. :/

Insomnia_844277d ago

What? I have both the Pulse and Pulse Elite since the day they released and they are working perfectly. I use them both every night, when the battery in one depletes I switch to the other one.

Nothing cracks by itself, it dependes on the treatment you give your stuff. I have both hanging next to my TV set up, always charged ready for my long night gaming sessions.

Raccoon4277d ago

Treat them with love and care and they will last you a life time.

TheMrMalro4276d ago

I guess it's because I used them all day. Not just for gaming but video editing and so on. I looked after them like crazy, especially my 2nd pair. I miss them as they are the best headphones I ever used... just weak.

Baka-akaB4276d ago (Edited 4276d ago )

I dont believe you took care of them properly . I use them all day long on pc , consoles and phones . I got two pairs since since release (i even preorder them , back then) , but only because i didnt feel like using usb , waiting for recharges and wanted one for pc one the ps3 .

They are fine without even a smudge on them . Hell i could even repackage them and fool someone into thinking they are mint

dcj05244276d ago

Had mines since early april. You know that siover circle on the right part. The top part cracked yesterday. Its not as bad as your's though. Its pretty small and I just try to ignore it.

I throw my original sony stereo headset in rage and it hasn't broken... just saying ;D

fourOeightshark4276d ago (Edited 4276d ago )

Guys TheMrMalro is right, the headset does crack even though you take care of them. Google 'pulse elite headset cracking'. Pulling them from the earcups to put them on is what causes it so i suggest you guys don't put them on like that if you already do.

@Baka I'm pretty sure most people put them on that way. My comment was just a heads up though.

Baka-akaB4276d ago (Edited 4276d ago )

Fine them , however i'll be the nitpick a**hole , and say that pulling them that way isnt what i'd consider taking good care of them :p .

I've yet to see that issue arise from my acquaintances and i still got the original 2012 sets . You obviously did , but seems not that common to me , even judging the threads about it

Baka-akaB4276d ago

Yeah i know , it's obviously a flaw then , even if i'd avoid doing that with any set

B_Rian894276d ago

Same thing happened to me. Luckily mine were still under warranty so I got them replaced through Sony. You just have to be careful and not pull them by the earcups because the plastic right above them is weak. Honestly seems like a design flaw to me. Other than that they're amazing. They make any game you play much more immersive

strigoi8144276d ago (Edited 4276d ago )

Yup it cracks and could snap..if you see the design of it the headband and the earcups are not flushed to one another once you try to flex it the pressure is on the silver thingy..and if you are using it like a DJ one ear if you get bored and uncomfy it will flex badly resulting to little cracks.. I have one and it has cracks on it treated like a baby since day one..i guess i have a big head

I love this headset! So comfy and the bass is great!

imahustla194277d ago

It is a great headset not just for games but movies and music too.

DaGR8JIBRALTAR4277d ago

I was reluctant to pick em up but I'm glad I did, and since they work with the ps4. ..its a win win.

Pulse Elite Wireless Stereo Headset Review-TGH

TGH Writes: "There are many headsets available on the market, but few of them cater to a specific console – and even then those that are wireless sacrifice sound quality in the process. Sony’s Pulse Wireless Stereo Headset – Elite Edition is specially made for the PlayStation brand. But can Sony’s impressive audio line-up transfer well into its flagship franchise?"

YES, these are some great headphones. I never had a problem with them and they sound freaking AWESOME.

YourFlyness4382d ago

Just got a pair a couple of days ago. Excellent Headphones. Love em. Also love the integration with the app you can download on the PS3. Battery life could be better though

Minato-Namikaze4382d ago (Edited 4382d ago )

Whats the battery life like? if i can get 4 or 5 hours then i'd be ok

YourFlyness4382d ago

Yea thats about right 4-5 hours with medium Bass impact

TheUndertaker854382d ago

It all depends on the features you're using honestly.

While playing on PS3 I use the 7.1 option at a decent volume. Bass Impact is usually set to low or off. In this scenario I get around 5-6 hours. Obviously if you use it differently you may get different results.

The plus to this headset though is the fact that you can also run it with devices via the 3.5mm cable. When using this option with PC, tablet, Vita, phone, or what have you the headset does not have to be powered. You can turn the power on to add in the Bass Impact effect plus sound options but it is not required.

It is also possible to use the headset while it charges via USB, keeping the headset in the action even while it charges.

Long story short, 4-5 hours of battery life is possible and then some.

TheUndertaker854382d ago

From the Playstation Store. It's called the Pulse Elite Manager App.

You may also find it here

https://store.sonyentertain...

TheUndertaker854382d ago

The author is spot on with the price. While $150 may seem steep for a pair of headphones, these headphones will do that price justice by far. Plus if you look at other gaming headsets with similar features the price is actually very reasonable.

LOGICWINS4382d ago

I think the headphones are great, but I wouldn't spend anything over $100 on them. I paid around 85 for them.

Holeran4382d ago

I think you might have the first pair not the Elite headphones. The first set can be had for $85 but the elites have never been under $119.

LOGICWINS4382d ago

^^Unless you have Amazon gift cards ;)

KONAAs4382d ago

the downside is if you lose the usb dongle u need to buy a new headset sony dosnt replace the dongles

Holeran4382d ago

I just bought the Elites with a new copy of Bioshock Infinite in a bundle for $159 it is a fantastic deal. I had the original cans that Sony sold and these blow them away.
