Will Sony Be Able to Change the Digital Landscape?

The deal would make some of Viacom's cable channels available as part of a pay-TV service for owners of Sony products such as the upcoming PlayStation 4. Not only would Viacom's lineup strengthen the service against cable companies and Netflix , it could also spell trouble for Microsoft's competing Xbox One console.

Let's face it, people would prefer getting just the internet than having it with a cable bundle.
Someday, we might only get the internet since you can all your shows there anyway.

This along with all the exclusive content from Sony Pictures, Sony Music and Sony Television will give Playstation a huge advantage in digital media content distribution.

Looks like a spoke too soon.....still submitting.

OT great feature for Sony. I makes sense for them to leverage their massive media channels.

Pillsbury13875d ago

They are planning something very interesting with digital and it all begins with with gaikai and ps vita tv. They plan on bringing a lot of streaming features to multiple devices along with different services.

ConwayGritty3875d ago

The thing that annoys me here is that ps4 fan boys will eat this up and when xbox one said they were doing this it was a big uproar and called it dishonorable because it was now a entrainment console. Shame on you.

And I await disagrees..

GrandpaSnake3875d ago

yeah but sony studios and all their digital media content is high quality. what their doing with 4k is really innovative too. microsoft had to buy, invest and aquire tv stuff, sony just had to make it available this gen.

webeblazing3875d ago (Edited 3875d ago )

PlayStation has always been a entertainment console since ps1 it would b the biggest fail in business if they didnt . ms own some sports teams but Sony owns music n movie studios n electronic s what makes sense

Not really sure what grandpasnake talking about tho. High media content you could say that about a lot of companies

Joe9133875d ago

I don't see why it annoys you first of all the uproar was everybody Xbox fan as well as all the media. People did not like the fact that MS came out of the gate talking about TV channels and features. But after E3 and MS focused on games then all that died down. Your comment don't make sense anyway if they were Sony fanboys why be in a uproar about a console they are not going to get in the first place. If MS focused on TV and lost gamers to PS4 thats good for crazy Sony fanboys.

rainslacker3875d ago

The big uproar was because MS wasn't giving the choice for people to decide if they really wanted that digital landscape. Given the current digital landscape, I don't blame them.

If Sony changes it, which is a hypothetical posited by this article, then at that time people can decide if it's worth an uproar or not. Until then, it's only speculation, as opposed to the very real scenario that MS was proposing.

MultiVersus Devs Are Teasing Another Steven Universe Character

A MultiVersus developer seems to be suggesting that a new Steven Universe character is going to join the roster soon, something that might even have been backed up by leakers.

We're just a few days away from the long-awaited relaunch of MultiVersus and while most of us are just excited to get our hands on the new Season 1 characters like Jason, Joker, Banana Guard, and Agent Smith, that hasn't stopped Player First Games from teasing some future additions.

This could work and would be very interesting and fun the way these robots break

Cacabunga13h ago

A Lego game? I would never buy it and it’ll flop badly because the Lego games are cartoon or big movie licenses that appeal to casual and families with kids. Horizon no one knows what that is.

Popsicle7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I agree in that this is not something I am interested in at all. Maybe the target is a Horizon game that doesn’t require a mature audience and can be sold to kids. Just a thought. 🤷

porkChop2h ago

But those kids don't really know what Horizon is. And why bring them into a franchise where they can't play the other games? Idk man, it seems like a really weird decision.

toxic-inferno3m ago

@porkChop

My son is is fascinated by our models of the various creatures from Horizon. He's always asking about them, and wants to play with them, but he's much too young to play the games.

What harm is there in producing a game that is accessible to a younger age group?

I mean, previous Lego games have been based on franchises that are traditionally more mature than the games themselves. And they sold perfectly well. I understand that this is a slightly different situation, but that doesn't mean it won't be successful.

From Sony's perspective, they currently have a bit of a lack of games targeting younger audiences (something that consoles are uniquely positioned for). Of all Sony's franchises, Horizon is one that has the potentially of appealling to children. So in that regard, it's a perfect match.

jznrpg5h ago

Im sure it could be a good Lego game. The problem for me is I don’t care for the Lego games. Obviously this isn’t catered to me so I don’t mind it being a thing as I have plenty of other games to play. For the people that do enjoy Lego games I’m sure it could be on of the best Lego games if done right.

-Foxtrot4h ago

I just don't understand the why of this

It's like...of all the things you could do

Jin_Sakai29m ago

Yea this is one of those things no one ask for or probably even care about.

I lost my drive for collecting physical games due to many discs lacking the whole complete game. Instead, of collecting games I started collected figurines.

Popsicle8h ago

I am a collector have a room dedicated with a couple original arcade cabinets, physical game library, old and new consoles and controllers backlit with LED lighting. It’s very cool to have but with emulation being so strong and prevalent, I sometimes feel foolish because the hobby is expensive and like another said, the full game is not always on the disc. Could probably spend more wisely but I enjoy it.
