The first thing people always mention with GTA 5 is killing prostitutes -- why?

GameZone's Lance Liebl writes, "The first place that people -- and by people I mean media, comedians or anyone on TV -- always go to when they talk about GTA is killing prostitutes. It's like that's all they associate with the game. Of course they mention that it's super violent, but the example they always use is killing prostitutes after you have sex with them. Can anyone explain to me why SNL is still airing with those D- grade comedians making moronic faces?

OT: I don't recall people talking that much about killing prostitutes, but after reading the article, I don't know if the guy is trying to be sarcastic, or just making no sense at all

I haven't seen it so much with GTA V, but with IV it was a big deal talked about by everyone.

I've heard various morons use this example since GTA 3,

"You can pay for sex, then kill the whore and get your money back" - spoken like it's an integral part of the game.

These subhumans condemn violent games on one hand, then vote for war mongering, autocratic politicians on the other.

They're mortified by virtual crimes, but not actual crimes against humanity and human rights abuses committed by the people they put in power, and then they asked for more.

Mainly most of the good comedians tend to move on with their lives and start their own projects. Leaving behind the leftovers(D- grade comedians) empty handed.

SNL usually has SOME really good cast members, though.

Today, one of their main cast members is the fat guy from Good Burger that couldn't act or be funny if his life depended on it.

I don't think their lineup has EVER been this bad.

Keenan Thompson has his moments. The same goes with Jay Pharaoh and the guy who does the drunk uncle skits.

uhh Kate Mckinnon is really funny. They were spot on with the commentary and obviously a few of the writers or cast actually do play the game.

This cast all grew up in the video game era, don't forget that.

And they made the game look good, they didn't bash on it at all.

People who refuse to see the big picture and instead single out details to focus on. The world is full of them.

GTA V is the best movie I've ever played. Saying this in a positive manner because the excellent storytelling that blends perfectly with gameplay immerses you like few other games.
The manuscript is genius and the voice acting is probably the best ever recorded in a game. But hey, let's focus on the prostitutes instead...

Maybe they should mention the fact that the police in GTA V are freaking brutal! They will not hesitate to shoot you in the face.

Seriously. Go take a picture of a police officer in GTA V. They will arrest you immediately. If you pull out your gun in time, you'll save yourself from losing all your ammo when he blasts you in the face with a shotgun.

In the UK you'd probably get less jail time for killing a prostitute than you would for driving on the right side of the road. (We have a weak justice system with the exception of traffic offences)

I so wish GTA had an option to drive on the left.

Prostitutes are so often the victim of murder in several TV serial killer dramas, but oh well, let's put GTA under the microscope because uuhh who knows.. And in my opinion, that was incredibly not funny and that overacting was just WAY too much.

It's become a meme of sorts. Ignorant people with no real opinion to offer can fall back on "Here's another iteration of the game that let's you kill prostitutes." Wash, rinse, repeat. Video game journalism generally has become something of this sort, rehashing the same tired tropes (race, gender, violence, graphics, fidelity to the "essence" of a series, "innovation", etc) with very little effort to say anything genuinely interesting. And that's precisely the reason I hardly ever read video game journalism and instead focus on the comments made in threads such as this. Gamers have far more interesting things to say.

And GTA an R* can handle the criticism. If you're going to make a game that has the content that it has, you should expect controversy and criticism and not get angry and defensive when it happens.
