Microsoft: Xbox One sell-outs at launch are "inevitable", but we're "working hard" to avoid that

Xbox One's launch on 22nd November will be Microsoft's greatest ever product launch, with over 10 "billion dollar IPs" in the field, corporate vice president Phil Harrison has told Eurogamer. The manufacturer is "working hard" to ensure that there are no shortages, but Harrison feels that the console is bound to sell out at some retailers.

EB games will be bone dry. I bet Walmart and Bestbuy will be likewise... at least in Canada.

If I wanted one, I'd go to Toys'R'us. Nobody ever thinks to look there. That's where I got my 360 when the prospect were bleak.

UltimateMaster4293d ago (Edited 4293d ago )

If the PS4 can supply the demand and theirs is twice as high, I don't see why Microsoft would not be able to.

Especially considering people are opting for the PS4 over the Xbox One, their demand won't be as significant.

Hatsune-Miku4293d ago

i thought the xbox one sold out day one of inception when they decided to do the DRM policies and all sorts of rubbish and then try back tracking on all of them.

UltimateMaster4293d ago

Granted, the PS4 had to stop the pre-orders weeks after it's E3 release due to the high demand.

mewhy324293d ago

Selling out doesn't mean HUGE success. I mean the last time I checked the preorder for the bone was just over 800,000 units with the PS4 being nearly 2 million. So if micro$oft only manufactures 1.5 million units before launch and it sells out then that's still behind even the 2 million PS4s that are already sold as of right now. So just because they say "Sell Out" doesn't really mean anything. It's just more of micro$oft's hype and spin machine trying to get away from the terror of E3.

Neither console will meet demand. Both vendors will sell every console they can make.

Not trying to be funny here, but it is quite easy to have ample supply when the demand is literally 1/8th of the competition.

malokevi4293d ago (Edited 4293d ago )

I'm not even going to justify that statement with a meaningful response.

FRUITLOOPS! XD

Ah hell, maybe I am. It doesn't matter how much PS4 sells/manufactures. Sony is not Microsoft, Microsoft is not Sony, and they are not some gelatinous blob whose sales feed off of one another. There is overlap, there are people who decide between them, and there are people/companies who buy multiples of each.

I can't understand for the life of my how Sony factors in to this at all............ Thats all any of you seem capable of talking about.... in an article that has nothing to do with them.

NexGen4293d ago

@malokevi

You don't see how they're linked? Money, the resource used to purchase these things, is often limited. For most families or buyers, they can only afford one.

Is the link plain enough? Of course the sales will impact each other.

malokevi4293d ago

They are obviously "linked", insomuch as any other competing products are "linked"

what I'm saying is that one companies ability to manufacture & sell does not preclude the competition from achieving the same end. Sony could manufacture a ton and never sell out, where as MS could manufacture less and sell out.

Would Sony lose because they didn't sell out? NO! they sold more units, and had more units. Microsoft (in this example) sold out because they didn't have the time/manufacturing capacity to match PS4. Not to mention that they are (supposedly) directed at different audiences, with the casual market (microsofts self-proclaimed target market) being much larger than the "hardcore gamer" market (which Sony says is their target)

People say "well if PS4 can meet demand, well obviously so can MS"

There are so many factors, to simplify it as you all have done along impossibly shallow fanboy-logic lines is... stupid. plain and simple.

NO! Thats all I'm saying... sometimes I feel like I'm talking to a bunch of monkeys around here, especially as of late.

Stsonic4293d ago

Sony is far more experience at distributing hardware than Microsoft so there is that to factor as well.
