Parents: What you need to know about GTA V

I’m writing this post in efforts to educate parents on what they’re allowing their kids to partake in.
I’ve spent much of the past week playing, reading about, and watching others play Grand Theft Auto V, and I felt compelled to write this public service announcement regarding the game.t’s wonderfully done, really it is. The graphics are astounding, the banter between characters is gaudy, crude, and hilarious, and the choices of missions to complete in the game seem never-ending at this point, but yet–I have a small issue with the game.

I want to know one thing, who is saying this should be played by kids? I mean I know there is a lot of parents buying this for their kids but is there really anyone who knows the game that thinks seriously that this game could be played by kids? If so please reply with your reason as to why you think so. Ok everyone else, carry on.

CustardTrout4232d ago

I wouldn't have an issue, because I played violent games and I ended up kill only 5 people!

Anthotis4232d ago

All children should play this game. It's awesome.

Discod994232d ago

Its not so much about the violence. There is topless women, uncensored sex and really bad language. I love this game. In my opinion its one of the best games ever made. But I won't let my kids anywhere near this till they're at least 16. Letting your kid play this is like letting your kid watch porn.

No one's saying it should be played by children. In fact, I'm saying the opposite lol. My issues here are with the parents who blindly buy this for their children and allow them to play it in their rooms like it's some kind of babysitter. I just want parents to be more involved with the things they are buying for their kids. I want them to do their research, I want them to be informed and make educated decisions on their children's interests. Get involved, parents. Sheesh!

RIPSKATEDESTROY4232d ago

Yeah I wasn't talking about what you write in your piece because I agree as a parent myself. I was just asking whoever think this game could be played by kids because I wanted to see if there was someone

aLucidMind4232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

I would say only if that individual child is mature enough to handle the content. But that comes down to parenting, and very few kids are mature enough. Even more rare are those that are stable or well-adjusted on top of that. So it is more a subjective answer due to individuality.

Parents please be responsible, GTA is not a game for Kids hence it's M-rating, M-Rated games are for people 17 and up.

This might help

We've had enough B.S. stories of violent video games, kids and guns, we don't need any more.

pompombrum4232d ago

Like it or not, kids are going to play it. Don't see any harm in say a 14 year old playing it tbh, they're old enough to understand it's a form of entertainment only. I'd be more concerned about some mentally unstable person with a collection of guns getting their hands on it.

SCW19824232d ago

You really think a 14 yr old playing this game will understand the satire? I have to strongly disagree with you. This game deals with Mature themes far above what any 14 yr old should be involved in. Your lazy view is worrying.

pompombrum4232d ago (Edited 4232d ago )

Well no they won't understand all the satire but neither will a lot of people under 20. It's not about understanding the deeper elements of the game, it's about entertainment and a 14 year old is capable of enjoying the game responsibility.

I don't consider my view lazy. If you deny a 14 year old access to it, it's just going to make them want to play it even more and they'll find a way.

Excalibur4232d ago

@SCW1982

I disagree, the prostitute and torture scenes are a bit too graphic (IMO) for a 14 year old.

goldwyncq4232d ago

It's ultimately up to the parents though. People say it's irresponsible, but my parents allowed me to play GTA 3 when I was 8. And I have NEVER been involved in any acts of violence. Seriously though, if by the age of 10, your children isn't aware that killing and stealing is wrong, then you suck as a parent period.

GentlemenRUs4232d ago

This is why us ADULTS can't have nice things... Irresponsible adults giving their kid below the age of 18 a game rated 18+!

_LarZen_4232d ago

All the parents need to know is that there is a reason for the big red 18 label on the box.

And that they as a adults should act as a parents and do the job they took when deciding to get a child.

There are to many bad parents out there not doing their job.

My problem with the game is they want to install a Kernel level driver before I can even boot the game in sngle player mode I don't care about GTA online

I flat out refuse to allow any game kernal level it's a huge risk I don't need to take

It's not the only game that has done this. Ut it's absolutely shutting the dorr completely on PC gaming for me kernal level drivers are ineffective at preventing cheaters but publishers insist on continued use

Pyrofire9542d ago

My big issue is how long it takes to transition between open world and interiors in Online.
Sometimes it can take over a minute of just starring at a black screen.

Let it sleep already R*. VI is coming and this game has had 12 years in the spotlight.

It looks great, got everything running on ultra, have long shadows set to max and it's running silky smooth.

The ray tracing and lighting makes the game look amazing.

CrimsonIdol46d ago

The reflections are a noisy mess, particularly with DLSS. Shame they didn't have ray reconstruction, seems to work wonders for cyberpunk

MrDead46d ago

The reflections are like a mirror, I have no noise at all. Are you sure you have it set correctly?

CrimsonIdol46d ago

I've everything maxed out. the reflections DO have a lot of noise in them in motion. When you stop for a second to look at them they look okay but when you're driving around there's a definite blur and sparkle to them that you often get from RT. Again, exactly the same as you get in Cyberpunk without ray reconstruction but is much reduced with.

MrDead45d ago

I really don't have that, what you see here is what I have in motion even online vids have it completely clear. I'm running of a 5090 with everything set to the highest.

https://m.youtube.com/watch...

CrimsonIdol45d ago

Ah I see. Well if you have a 5090 then I'm guessing are you're probably getting quite a high frame rate (I'm guessing hitting that 120 fps max), which will make a difference too, since the RT samples in the reflections accumulate temporally. I'm on a 3080 so I'm keeping my frame rate around 60-75 at 4K, and the low sample/high noise of the RT is definitely apparent… particularly on moving cars at night time I've noticed the most (makes sense given highest contrast between light and dark) DLSS amplifies the noise too, it's the big thing that sticks out as low fidelity when the rest resolves nicely

CrimsonIdol44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Just had a chance to watch this on my 4K monitor now. Do you not see the blurriness of the reflections in relation to everything else in motion? Like it's definitely better and less noisy than it is for me at 60fps with quality DLSS but it's still pretty bad compared to how crisp the screen space/cubemap ones were when driving about. fine when you stop for a second but driving around you're rarely stopped so it's near constant muddy reflections.
