BugBear's Next Car Game's features soft body deformation - the most advanced damage modelling yet?

VVV: "I've said it before, and I'll say it again: when it comes to damage modelling, the majority of racing games fail to satisfy my sadistic appetite for destruction, with predefined damage modelling and primitive texture changes depicting scratched paintwork. Admittedly, this is often down to limitations imposed by real world car manufacturers who weep at the prospect of watching their pristine motors get banged up, but it's something I hope to see significantly improved in next generation driving games.

BugBear's tentatively titled Next Car Game already looks to be setting the benchmark however, featuring what could possibly be the most advanced dynamic damage modelling system seen in a racing game yet that puts anything before it to shame. "

You havent seen BeamNG yet;) BeamNG has waaay better crash physics

Daz4239d ago

yes i got it great but this looks cool to with ai what works lol
ai does work in beam but they start to go round in circles after a while.

Calvin_ISA4239d ago

BeamNG is not a game.. It's a tech demo. Also, the soft body does look cool, but it is WAAAYYYY too soft. It's like the cars are made of frigid jello. This looks much more realistic. Already pre-ordered. Also, whenever BeamNG gets out of tech demo mode, I'm sure I'll end up picking it up if it does demolition derbies right. :)

viveks864238d ago

I agree with this wise person. Tech demoes and target physics for actual games are two different things. Look at all the unreal engine videos out there, like elemental, infiltrator or the good samaritan. Who knows when actual games would use all that functionality and look like that?!

Perjoss4238d ago

I'm not sure if I agree here, I mean sure it doesn't have opponent AI or 'checkpoints' but you can still have a TON of fun with BeamNG. I've actually had more fun in BeamNG than in a few full retail car games I've played in the past.

RedSoakedSponge4238d ago (Edited 4238d ago )

id say next car game's physics is better imo. beamng drive damage is a little more papery looking. kind of glitchy too.

both are damn impressive though!

Deceiver_Of_The_Gods4238d ago

Offcourse its glitcy , it is being made my 4 only people , but looks really goos;) offcourse there are AI problems but i believe that in the future this game is gonna be looking great , i also like next car game , it has much better AI and driving physics

RedSoakedSponge4238d ago

im not debating about the size of the team working on it. all i care about is what is more realistic.

Sketchy_Galore4239d ago

Soft body deformation sounds like a description of me with no shirt on.

TotalSynthesisX4239d ago (Edited 4239d ago )

Not bad. Too much debris though -- a real car wouldn't break apart like it was made of cheap plastic. The chassis doesn't seem to warp enough, either; it seems a little too hard/solid.

Apart from that, though, it looks great.

Calvin_ISA4239d ago

Chassis doesn't warp/seems too solid, but real cars don't break apart like they're made of cheap plastic? I'm puzzled. They have it pretty solid, I feel. If you drop a car from 20 feet in the air, it doesn't turn into a pancake like in BeamNG. It's a solid, metal structure; it is not a fluid.

TotalSynthesisX4238d ago

Allow me to be more specific. The panels/pieces (the "skin" of the car) break off too easily. The chassis (the "skeleton"), though, seems too solid. I'm not saying it should turn into a pancake after hitting the ground, but it shouldn't stay so... unaffected, for lack of a better term. Putting it through a grinder like the ones in the video should cause the car to twist and buckle, not just lose its hood, side panels, fenders, tires, etc.

Calvin_ISA4238d ago

I see what you mean now, and I do agree, but I think tearing metal would be very hard to program, and all the parts flying off are bolt on parts so it is still realistic. What you're saying WILL happen, just a ways down the road. I really can't wait. Haha. I'm sure they also have the damage turned up a little to show how it works, otherwise it'll be one good hit and you're done style demolition derbies. Which now makes me want a golden gun mode in this game. Haha. Now I want a twisted metal with this type of damage modeling and a little more realism.

Kennytaur4238d ago

It's too explody in my eyes, with lots of pieces flying off at all times, even when they shouldn't. But still a step in the right direction.

TacticAce4238d ago

lol tires still intact though
