Flashback HD – Review (Kaboom Shark)

"Believe it or not, I was primarily interested in Flashback HD not because of its story, gameplay or the fact that it was a remake of a supposed classic, but because of its cool and colorful sci-fi aesthetic. Seriously, this game looks as if The Fifth Element and the 2012 Total Recall made upside-down love on a rainbow and fed their child massive amounts of Kool Aid. Here we have sprawling sci-fi cityscapes, lush jungles that bear explosive fruit, trench coat wearing Terminators that act as police, neon-drenched nightclubs and fight-to-the-death game shows. How could I possibly pass that up?

As it turns out, quite easily. Despite its flashy aesthetic, Ubisoft and VectorCell’s Flashback is a dull, frustrating and slapdash remake that fails in its attempts to add anything fresh to the classic formula and is largely an incompetent game in its own right." (Michael Urban, KaboomShark.com)
