Post Game Report 251: Don't do it. Don't buy the Xbox One.

JVB has an Xbox One on pre-order, but the rest of the PGR staff have something to say that may change his mind.

Microsoft announce that external HDD support will not be ready for the Xbox One launch. How does that impact the Xbox One during it's launch window?

It doesn't impact it at all unless you are getting every launch game and installing them onto the box.

Ridiculous article looking for hits by jumping on the 'let's bash MS bandwagon'

Just like me the 360, this will come post launch

StoutBEER4313d ago

Wait. I thought you could'nt do this on the PS4 as of yet either.

falviousuk4313d ago

Ps4 doesn't support external drives, you can put a larger HDD inside the console

stuna14313d ago

The PS4 does support external drives, you just can't play games off of external drives.

G20WLY4313d ago

Actually you can upgrade the internal drive of the PS4 to increase game capacity from day one, if you like.

You can also add a massive external drive for the rest of your media, like movies, music, pictures, or whatever. Not that you should need to, but it's nice to have that choice.

StoutBEER4313d ago

Holy shit. Is this what the Podcast is about? Hahaha! I've had a 320 gig Hard Drive for over 2 years and have many full retail games downloaded/ arcade/ indie. And guess what? I still have over 90 gigs. Lol. The biggest game I have on there is Red Dead Redemption and its 7 gigs and change. You would have to buy not only EVERY launch game, but with 500 gigs, you would have to buy well into the future. So yea no, still getting the X1 XD

MartinB1054313d ago (Edited 4313d ago )

I've got a 1TB in my PS3 with 200GB free, and that's only games (I have a separate box for other media). I believe the largest game on it (Ni no Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch) is around 22GB, and games are probably going to become even bigger in the next generation with higher definition assets.

WeaseL4313d ago

Put a 500gb drive in my ps3 less than 18mths ago and I keep on deleting stuff for more space, thanks to PS+

G20WLY4313d ago

Do you not realise that next gen games will be BIGGER?! lmao :/

Extra space will be a necessity at some stage, but it should be no big deal at first.

boneso824313d ago

Ps+ is a nightmare for eating up hard drive space, too many free games!!!

MasterCornholio4313d ago

Yep which is why i will probably upgrade my PS4 to a 1TB hard drive. Plus gives to many games dang it i dont have the time to play them all.

Foxgod4313d ago

What a load, sooner or later the X1 will get support for installing on external hd's.
I cannot imagine either that anytime soon someone fills up the entire 500GB.

Besides, you can also uninstall games you dont play.

MasterCornholio4313d ago

Since the XBOX One doesnt have a service like PlayStation plus i doubt that XBOX owners will fill up their hard drives soon. However for PlayStation owners who use Plus it is an issue and i know this because i filled up my 320GB hard drive quite quickly with the free games that Sony gives their Plus users.

Glad, I’m about to downgrade when they raise the price. For me, I don’t really access much or care about the games they have in the library and if I do, it’d be cheaper to just buy them over time rather than stick to some expensive subscription model.

crazyCoconuts1d 12h ago

When you're new to the service you've got an avalanche of games to play. After you catch up, I agree, it's not worth it beyond the Essential tier for me.
That being said, the Essential tier is the best deal in console gaming imo, based on the monthly games you get to keep.

Profchaos1d 6h ago

Yeah same will be downgrading $214 aud is insane and we don't even get the streaming capabilities in Australia which they said would make the top level subscription cheaper.

If i was to just buy the games I actually play that come to the service id be far better off.

Ill keep the essential tier to retain the games ive collected since the ps3 and for mp but I'm not convinced of the premium tiers value any more

victorMaje1d 3h ago

Went back to essential a few months ago. I’m buying more physical and it has helped in finishing more games.

Profchaos17h ago

Tend to agree if i go to the trouble of buying a disc ill typically finish it

Alos881d 13h ago

Extra is probably the best value for money right now, Premium doesn't have anything special enough to justify paying the additional imo.

OtterX1d 12h ago

*unless you have a Portal & you catch Premium on discount during Days of Play or Black Friday.

Yea, I really do wish they'd up their effort on Premium titles, but allowing a large catalog of titles that can stream to your Portal without even having to use your PS5 is pretty awesome. We travel about 2 hours to stay with my inlaws from time to time, so it's been pretty killer to only need to take my Portal for that!

andy851d 11h ago

Yup if you have a portal premium is the best tier for sure

KyRo19h ago

Extra has been getting worse and worse each month. I've had it since it's launch and it's been great to play some games I may not have played but the selection has been declining rapidly for a while now. My sub runs out in August and I'll be going back to essential. They actually add games to that which are more appealing.

jznrpg1d 12h ago

Add some more classics with trophies. Vagrant Story first

OtterX1d 12h ago

Nice choice. I agree!

Jeanne D'Arc was my favorite PS+ catalog title from last year & I Platinumed it!

Eonjay1d 10h ago

I like Ridge Racer, Tekken and Grandia. Add Xenogears, digimon World 3, Classic GTA and ill be happy

jznrpg1d 8h ago

Jeanne D’Arc was great!

@Eonjay there is a Grandia collection available for PS4, I’m not sure if it’s been on plus already or not

darthv721d 12h ago

cloud streaming to the portal, without using the ps5, is the selling point of premium to me.

Obscure_Observer1d 12h ago

If the consumers are happy, Sony is even happier.

It is what it is.

Eonjay1d 10h ago

I tend to agree with you.
