side question, but why does John from dsogaming always say "we" in his articles, like he has a full staff putting out content for the site? he's the only one putting content on the site. lol.

john24313d ago

@mattdillahunty. This should answer your question -> http://www.dsogaming.com/ed...

Damn iPhone sorry about the disagree

PLASTICA-MAN4312d ago (Edited 4312d ago )

I don't get it: he scanned real persons like that? So where are the REAL models then to compare?

Edit: I found where: http://ir-ltd.net/

This is the REAL deal, all the fuss is not about the Unity Engine or sth, it is about this technic of 3D scanning called Infinite Realities. Scroll down to see Recent Clients: Sony, Platige, Valve, Crytek and Microsoft. For those downplaying Killzone on PS4, expect to see such quality on PS4 with Naughty Dog (who finally converted to using 3D scans) and Quantic Dream. Valve is welcome too with their Source Engine 2 .

UltimateMaster4312d ago (Edited 4312d ago )

Let's get naked!
I hope the next PS Avatars look that amazing.

AuToFiRE4312d ago

...except...that video was freaky as hell.

aliengmr4313d ago

How was it "freaky"?

Not sure you could demonstrate what was being demonstrated in a batter way than that.

Bimkoblerutso4313d ago

Nice lighting and shaders and all that jazz, don't get me wrong. But there's just something...disturbing about their lifelessness.

pixelsword4313d ago

It's the whole uncanny valley thing...

When the spark of a soul isn't there, the images give a reaction to some that they're watching a bunch of corpses. I'm sure everyone has that reaction, it depends upon the resolution.

I had mine with the Atari 2600.

Mr Tretton4313d ago (Edited 4313d ago )

This is quite an accomplishment. Question is how long before we see this is games and when does this become a standard.

Batzi4313d ago (Edited 4313d ago )

How can Unreal show realism? That defies the concept.

clmstr4313d ago (Edited 4313d ago )

haha, bubble for you, Sir! =D
Edit: even if it's Unity, the majority games based on it look too "cartoony", just like Unreal-based games.

TheDevKit4313d ago

The art style in games is dependent on the developer, not the engine.

Batzi4313d ago

for some reason I read Unity Unreal. Forgive me.

Caleb_H4313d ago

That was not the photo I was expecting.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4313d ago

This is Unity???

theyve come a long way.

hoju694313d ago

It's not as impressive you some may think. These are 3D scans we are talking about. Of course they look photo-realistic. The models nor the textures were created by hand by artists. It is an exact virtual replication of the person who was scanned. But models and textures of this high of resolution is still a long way off from being able to be practical in games.

Really the most impressive part of this demo is the work the done on the skin shaders. Excellent use of sub-surface scattering.

TheDevKit4313d ago (Edited 4313d ago )

It's a shame we can't scan movement properly yet.

Pixel_Enemy4312d ago

I agree TheDevKit, the only devs who I have seen do motion capture right are Naughty Dog. I appreciate how they do the mocap and the voice acting at once to make it smooth and more realistic. Mocap and voice in a sound booth always has a disconnect.

The facial motion capture in LA Noire was amazing but they captured the face and body separately which made the end result off and odd. We need to figure out a better way.

Unity Technologies' Field Engineer explains the performance issues of Unity 4-powered games

DSOGaming writes: "As you may already know, a lot – if not all – of games that were powered by Unity Engine 4 were plagued by performance issues, even on the PC. That something that really troubled us and according to Unity Technologies’ Field Engineer, Mathieu Muller, this was mainly because Unity Engine 4 was a single-threaded engine."

As a Unity developer working on a title right now, I truly believe that the best course of action for performance issues is to upgrade to Unity 5. Unity 4 was great for the time, but 5 really strives to put it up to par with the modern specs. In Tactics Quest Arena, the game I am working on, we have gotten it to run beautifully on mobile with no problem on almost all devices.
