It doesn't really make sense though. So Knack will look better than Ryse? driveclub will look better tahan Forza? The PS4 has to be more powerful, surely MS wouldnt let Sony say it at every press conference without saying "erm excuse me?".

But the most powerful may not always translate to better graphics if the dev tools arent as awesome. Despite the Sony fanboys that will 'Disagree purely because they don't want to consider it, there is a chance that directx 11.2 is what the games like Witcher 3, NFS, are taking advantage of, not GDDR5. BF4 already said they are using dx 11.2 and the PS4 does have a bespoke equivilient but who knows if it's on the same level?

Bold statement from Sony, could come back to bite them. Let's hope their not showing sign of arrogance and are just telling to goddamn truth!

I wouldn't expect Direct X11.2 to really take hold for several years. Reason: A lot of multiplats are making games for three platforms: PC, X1 and PS4. In order to make their life easier their engines will use something that translates to each system. In this case, it will be Direct X 11.1.

To clarify, DX11.2 is exlcusive to X1 and Windows 8.1 and the majority of PC owners still use XP and Windows 7 so they would be cut out. This doesn't make logical sense. You would have to make one engine in Direct X11.1 for PC and PS4 and another engine in X11.2 for Xbox 1 and Windows 8.1. Games like Halo will use it for sure but that is about it. Multiplats like BattleField 4 are using DX11.1 for everybody.

The ps4 doesnt use Directx.... tsk tsk. it uses a customized opengl api that allows for "closer to the metal" coding. That means code on the ps4 can be much more efficient if written properly

This is more relevant coming from Sony, since many expected X360 versions of multiplats to be slightly better, at least in the earlier years, due to PS3 being ported from that code. It's important for Sony to speak up if the balance swings in their favour this time around, as it will support multiplat sales on PS4.

Naughty Dog makes some outstanding games, but they do not give highend PC's a run for their money.First party games on the PS3 have always looked better due to the fact their middleware was second to none and programming for the system was never easy. The PS4 is made to be easy to program for. The learning curve that kept games looking better year after year is gone. Sony previouslt stated they made the system difficult to program for so it would look better over time. With the new consoles, it's the opposite with the XboxOnes more complex architecture making it more difficult.

KILLZONE looks awesome, but haven't the last 3 underperformed in terms of staying power. GG mast amazing looking games, however they disappoint when it comes to the actual gameplay. Similar to Crytec, but at least more consistent.

Second Son is another good launch title, however it lacks the multiplayer features that the X1 launch games have. Not saying it will be a bad game but I don't expect it to be talked about as much as other PS4 launch titles.

Killzone SF has open levels that almost gives it an open world feel, all the while sporting some of the best next gen looking visuals on both consoles.... Forza 5 is a racer with static environments. Not even comparable. XD

Both consoles use a tablet processor and midline graphics card. Neither is "way more powerful". With the recent release of the XboxOne specs, it is said to have more processing power than the PS4. I'm not sure I believe this, but it does cast a doubt on the claims Sony fans embraced on pen and paper. I'm going to wait for the games to release and make my own decision on what I "know".

Kobe, I'm one of those Xbox boys that has been gaming much longer than you on many more platforms including every Sony console and handheld that has come out. I also have a gaming PC that outspecs both consoles considerably. I know the affect a 7700 series card has on a PC and the difference between it and a 7800. I also know that the new consoles are much different than traditional PC architecture and neither runs above 1080p which is what our tv's are capped at.

PS fans are convinced GDDR5 is better because it has more numbers and letters. They also think a 7800 series card can run games without a processor. They get their numbers from a GPU with complete disregard to everything else so they can feel better about their decision.

If you really want to consider me an Xbox boy because I prefer to think for my own and can actually compare things atleast somewhat objectively, Thanks.

It does not have more processing power. It's got the potential for the ESRAM- or was it EDRAM? whatever- to run faster than the GDDR5 in the PS4, but it's only 32MB at a time, not the multiple gigs of the PS4.

You aren't getting what eSRAM is. The 32mb of eSRAM would be like your Hotwheels Quickshot Launcher. It has the ability to increase the speed of the DDR3 just like your Quickshot speeds up your Hotwheels so they make it around the track. It's not a bottleneck that works like a 4 way stop sign like you seem to think.

Theoretical power means in theory, Microsoft can achieve 204 gbs/sec with their customization. This doesn't mean we will see it on day one, it means the possibility is there to get higher results than the 109 gb/sec people thought prior to seeing the customization.

Once again, I don't think it's realistic to say the XboxOne can kick 204GB/s constantly. At the same time, the PS4's theoretical 176GB/s bandwidth is questionable too since CPU's aren't too keen on GPU's GDDR5. Neither consoles combo chip was created for power, they were created for tablets. The customization to get more out of less. This is why I am "trolling" by saying we really should wait and see the finished games before deciding which system blows which away. I'm leaning more towards each system being pretty equal to the other with neither showing an overwhelming difference, but I reserve that judgement until we see the games.

And the processor was capable of that. The reason Multi-plat games looked better on the 360 was because since the 360 was easier to develop for (PS3's cell was new to them) games were created and optimized for the 360 and poorly ported to the PS3's cell.

Take any game multi-plat game that was developed for PS3 then ported to 360 and the PS3 version was far superior in every way. FFXIII being a prime example.

The PS3 was the more powerful console, you can't argue that. The 360 had more RAM, which did lead to better textures long-term. Gears of War being a good example.

Both consoles were good, but speaking strictly based off hardware, the PS3 was undeniably superior.

sounds like PS4 will be better graphically, but so far doesn't look like it. I'm still going with X1 first because it is better in every other category by a wide margin. Better controller, better online gaming, better features, and even better exclusives out the gate. MS already is evolving gaming with Kinect and cloud and will continue to be the front runner when it comes to new technologies and services. PS4 has better graphics and I'll be shocked if they don't take the lead in AAA exclusives in a couple of years but they will only be catching up to 360 in other areas. A great example of graphics not equating to a good game is killzone. All the previous killzones on PS3 would be considered an average FPS on 360. Maybe Guerilla finally figured out how to make a good game in KZSF - we'll see. Infamous also was boring with generic gameplay, but I heard from someone they already fixed this with the sequel so hopefully the third game is even better. I never will get what gamers see in KZ, Infamous, Resistance, and LBP. Didn't make it more than 6 hours on any of them. SOTC (PS2 game), Uncharted, and Demon Souls - different story - great games.

What do you see in Halo and gears? I mean really, gears especially, the most mediocre shooter I've ever seen. I do like Halo and Forza but, Halo is even boring after 10-15 minutes of playing it.

One thing I will say, GT has nothing on Forza for me personally, i honestly hate the GT series and everything about it.

when gears released it was a one of a kind chaingun romp fest with great gameplay and tons of laughs. It was also easily the best game in terms of graphics on any console at the time. I enjoyed the 2nd game as well, but that was it for me so definitely agree that the appeal can be short lived. Since I have limited time I only want to play the best games that provide a unique experience. Out of the Killzones I only played KZ2 and didn't make it long at all because for me it fell short on many levels to Halo. COD and Halo are some of the best FPS games available, but I got bored of them after 6 months of consistent playing. The length of my interest is also impacted by lag, so I'm hoping X1 cloud really does what they say. Although the idea on starting next gen with another COD game makes me sick, I'm still picking up Ghosts just to see how X1 cloud changes up mp. But anwyway, as a player that played Halo and Gears, what do you like so much about KZ?

Sony... Please don't stick your foot in your mouth. I have my doubts on the power of the Ps4. It's basically a 7850-70 and i5-2500k ,with 6gbs of Gddr5 ram that can be shared between the cpu/gpu. The modifications made to the platform were only for the gpu, leaving a low-end Cpu untouched.

I think multiplats will look the same on both platforms. Exclusives are another story. Infamous SS looks stunning( On the same level as Ryse)( Visually stunning + Open world= Best looking exclusive) and Killzone is just wow. I could be wrong about everything though.

Same here. I'll believe it when I see it. I've owned every Sony system as well as Every Xbox and Nintendo and out of all 3 Sony always seems to over promise on what they deliver to the market. These console companies, particularly Sony, have ALWAYS promised the moon and the stars and never meet expectations--and really, how could they? The best approach, with every generation, is to listen to tertiary sources who analyses the tech; particularly computer hardware sites. The average idiot thinks "50% more powerful than console X" is such a 'pwning' stat. However, as with all low to low-mid end cards (they are as such regardless of the fanboys)50% more power doesn't equal to drastic changes in scaling and ability. Go see for yourself, just research comparable benchmarks from similar GPUS. A lot of console loyalists place so much value on the term 'custom GPU/APU' thinking this translates into some untapped-alien power....it's simply not the case. Sony and MS simply offer the best they can with a cost cap of $500....which in the world of computational power isn't a lot to work with.

Without getting into tech rants (wasted air on this site), the specs of these two machines simply do not translate into drastic graphical differences. And how can they when both companies have the same cost-cap that they are governed by? Reading some of the comments on this site my impression is many of you are simply barking up the wrong tree when it comes to graphical obsession. The squabbling will continue (as with all kids) but any talk other than the games is truly wasted air with these machines.

To sum up: A grandiose PR statement (eaten up voraciously by the current N4G majority demographic) that really holds little water. Nothing has changed: PC for the best graphics and multi-plats and either console is a good choice based on what games you like for exclusives. End of story.

1.) A PC, like a console, can be connected to ANY screen--Tv's (Very large ones too!) and played/operated from a couch, chair, bed, toilet AND with a controller (some are even designed to mimic Xbox/Playstation controllers)

2.) You can build a PC that exceeds the capability of any console for about $600 (no, I won't post the parts as it has been done 40 billion times for the idiots who doubt it). C) As for your energy quip I feel you're really scraping the barrel there. I'd post energy footprints but it really is a waste of time. Look up a console's wattage at full load vs a Pc (of equivalent power or a little more) at full load and see the differences. More specifically, look at how much effects your electric bill. I'm not bashing consoles as I always end up buying them all over time and nor am I a "PC elitist"--I'm a realist. This means I acknowledge reality which is:

PCs do cost more. One does not need to buy "high end rigs" to out do a console lol A mid-range PC in the 6-800 range can do that. more money, yes--but a superior machine.

PCs also can do EVERYTHING a console can do (predominantly better too) and not vice-versa. Lame ass perceptions like the ones you stated of "sitting at a desk" are the by-product of ignorance--you don't know better. More importantly, everything you stated is in fact false.

Rather than bang for your buck as you say, in the world of electronics only one sentiment holds true: The more the buck, the bigger the bang.

Console has one edge and that is exclusives--it's that simple. Thus, the best solution is to play multiplats on PC (along with it's own exclusives) as it offers significant graphical superiority and performance (fact) and own a console(s) for their respective quality exclusives.

I think it's a little to early for either Sony or MS to make those statements since nothing has been released and we are about to step into next gen. this coming fall. I could possibly agree if we are going to compare exclusives to exclusives, but I am curious to see how the whole multiplat thing works this generation. I think Sony should hold off on those strong statements until we are a little deeper into next gen and we can see what these studios can do after familiarizing themselves with the new hardware.

Killzone: Most stylized graphics, boring gameplay, weird nintendo sound effect when you get a kill lol

Forza: Beautiful graphics the cars have 3 simulated coats of paint excellent lighting

Driveclub: Choppy graphics cars look ugly, trees look last gen

Dead Rising 3: Realistic graphics, fun gameplay

Infamous: CGI blows the gameplay graphics out of the water, not many npc for a open world game, overpowered main character

Same Crap as last Gen

PS3 more powerful than 360 (The Cell Cures Cancer) but 90% of the HOT multiplats sold more units on 360 than the PS3 and Devs made ALL multiplats about equal in graphics.

NOW it's PS4 more powerful than XB1

and again Devs will make most multiplats equal in graphics and Microsoft will work it's magic to attract more gamers to ACTUALLY BUY XB1 multiplats instead of just BRAGGING about them.

I wish we had more side by side comparisons of multiplatform games (BF4, Watchdogs, etc.) between xbox1 and PS4. Hell, even 360 and PS3 versions.

No one has reported definitively which system's multiplats look better. Why? Maybe they look the same or only marginally better.

I think you missed his point. He said the people BUYING the Xbox PREFER the Xbox exclusive. The people BUYING the Sony PREFER the Sony exclusives. He's not saying ones consoles exclusives are better than the others. It comes down to preference. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. The fact that killzone has more preorders than Xbox exclusives is more a reflection of most people have preordered the PS4. MS turned a lot of people off when they announced the Xbox One and a lot of people went out and preordered the PS4. When a console launches there is usually only a select few games worth getting. I doubt Killzone Shadowfall would even see half as much pre order numbers if it wasn't a launch title and it was released in 2yrs time
